Zero Viscosity Limit for Analytic Solutions of the Navier-Stokes Equation on a Half-Space.¶ II. Construction of the Navier-Stokes Solution

This is the second of two papers on the zero-viscosity limit for the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations in a half-space in either 2D or 3D. Under the assumption of analytic initial data, we construct solutions of Navier-Stokes for a short time which is independent of the viscosity. The Navier-Stokes solution is constructed through a composite asymptotic expansion involving the solutions of the Euler and Prandtl equations, which were constructed in the first paper, plus an error term. This shows that the Navier-Stokes solution goes to an Euler solution outside a boundary layer and to a solution of the Prandtl equations within the boundary layer. An FPGA based Topological Processor Prototype for the ATLAS Level-1 Trigger Upgrade

By 2014 the LHC will collide proton bunches at 14TeV with an increased instantaneous luminosity up to 3·10³⁴cm⁻²s⁻¹. The resulting higher event rate will challenge the existing ATLAS trigger system. A reduction on the trigger rate can be achieved by selecting interesting channels based on their expected decay topology and thus reducing background. This will be achieved by introducing of a new FPGA based module in the Level-1 trigger: the Topological Processor L1Topo. With L1Topo it will be possible for the first time to concentrate detailed information from the entire calorimeters and the muon detector into a single module. Accelerating Radioactive Ion Beams With REX-ISOLDE

The post accelerator REX‐ISOLDE is installed at the ISOLDE facility at CERN, where a broad variety of radioactive ions can be addressed. Since the end of 2001 beams at the final energy of 2.2 MeV/u are available. REX‐ISOLDE uses a unique system of beam bunching and charge breeding. First a Penning trap accumulates and bunches the ions, which are delivered as a quasi‐continuous beam from the ISOLDE target‐ion‐source, and then an electron beam ion source (EBIS) charge‐breeds them to a mass‐to‐charge ratio below 4.5. A Numerical Method for the Analysis of Plane-Strain Forming Processes with Unilateral Constraints

The Authors propose a numerical model for the solution of plane-strain forming processes, based on the linearization of the yield surface. This allows to employ the linear programming technique for the solution of the variational problem derived from the application of the upper-bound theorem. Such a model permits to take into account the unilateral constraints in a very simple way. Therefore it is well suited to solve a large class of problems, such as sheet forming, in which the unilateral constraints are often present.

An affine scaling method using a class of differential barrier functions: primal approach

International audience; In this paper we propose a family of affine scaling interior point algorithms, called galpv4, using a primal approach, based on a large class of differential barrier functions. We show that these algorithms are in fact an extension and generalization of the classical affine scaling algorithm based on the well-known log barrier function. After carrying out a complete convergence analysis, we select some of these algorithms for comparison with the classical affine scaling algorithm, performed with the help of the familiar Netlib test set.

Laser-light backscattering imaging for early decay detection in citrus fruit using both a statistical and a physical model

Abstract The early detection of decay caused by fungi in citrus fruit is a primary concern in the post-harvest phase, the automation of this task still being a challenge. This work reports new progress in the automatic detection of early symptoms of decay in citrus fruit after infection with the pathogen Penicillium digitatum using laser-light backscattering imaging. Backscattering images of sound and decaying parts of the surface of oranges cv. ‘Valencia late’ were obtained using laser diode modules emitting at five wavelengths in the visible and near-infrared regions. RAPTOR, Resonance ionization spectroscopy And Purification Traps for Optimized spectRoscopy, is a new collinear resonance ionization spectroscopy device constructed at the Ion Guide Isotope Separator On-Line (IGISOL) facility at the University of Jyv\"askyl\"a, Finland. By operating at beam energies of under 10 keV, the footprint of the experiment is reduced compared to more traditional collinear laser spectroscopy beamlines. Observability of the Risken–Nummedal–Graham–Haken instability in Nd:YAG lasers

Multilongitudinal mode instability in ring Nd:YAG lasers is theoretically analyzed. After we review the way in which the standard two-level laser theory applies to this laser we extend the theoretical treatment to include transverse effects. We do this by taking into account the finite transverse section of the active medium and by assuming a Gaussian transverse distribution for the intracavity field. Finally we demonstrate that multimode emission develops whenever the intracavity field waist diameter is almost equal to the active rod diameter. The Heisenberg dynamics of spin systems: A quasi*‐algebras approach

The problem of the existence of the thermodynamical limit of the algebraic dynamics for a class of spin systems is considered in the framework of a generalized algebraic approach in terms of a special class of quasi*-algebras, called CQ*-algebras. Discrete KP Equation and Momentum Mapping of Toda System

Abstract A new approach to discrete KP equation is considered, starting from the Gelfand-Zakhharevich theory for the research of Casimir function for Toda Poisson pencil. The link between the usual approach through the use of discrete Lax operators, is emphasized. We show that these two different formulations of the discrete KP equation are equivalent and they are different representations of the same equations. The relation between the two approaches to the KP equation is obtained by a change of frame in the space of upper truncated Laurent series and translated into the space of shift operators.
