Applicability Range of the One-Parameter Ply Plasticity Model for Prediction of the Nonlinear Response of Laminates
2005
A one-parameter lamina plasticity model is applied to predict the nonlinear deformation of an E-glass / epoxy cross-ply composite laminate under quasi-static uniaxial tensile loading at different angles to the material orthotropy axes. It is shown that the laminate theory yields accurate results within the plastic strain range covered in unidirectional continuous-fibre reinforced composite tests that are used to determine the plasticity model parameters.
Pressure-induced band anticrossing in two adamantine ordered-vacancy compounds: CdGa2S4 and HgGa2S4
2021
Abstract This paper reports a joint experimental and theoretical study of the electronic band structure of two ordered-vacancy compounds with defect-chalcopyrite structure: CdGa2S4 and HgGa2S4. High-pressure optical-absorption experiments (up to around 17 GPa) combined with first-principles electronic band-structure calculations provide compelling evidence of strong nonlinear pressure dependence of the bandgap in both compounds. The nonlinear pressure dependence is well accounted for by the band anticrossing model that was previously established mostly for selenides with defect chalcopyrite structure. Therefore, our results on two sulfides with defect chalcopyrite structure under compressio…
Capillary condensation in the two-dimensional lattice gas: A Monte Carlo test of fluctuation corrections to the Kelvin equation
1997
A two-dimensional lattice gas model with nearest-neighbour attractive interaction confined in a strip of width L between two parallel boundaries at which an attractive short-range force acts is studied by Monte Carlo simulations, for cases where the system is in the wet phase near the critical wetting transition line for . We study the shift of the chemical potential of the transition in the strip as a function of L by thermodynamic integration methods, , and also obtain the thickness of the wetting film at the chemical potential at which capillary condensation occurs. In the range the data are consistent with a variation according to the Kelvin equation, , as well as with a shifted Kelvin …
Ab initio calculations of charged point defects in GaN
2005
The Generalized Gradient Approximation (GGA) of a Density Functional Theory (DFT) in LCAO basis is used to determine electronic structure of charged point defects in hexagonal GaN. Impurities of MgGa, ZnGa, SiN and CN (the most common dopants) were considered for charge states 0, ±1, –2. The vacancies of VGa and VN were considered for charge states 0 and 0, ±1, ±2 respectively. The defects in consideration are compared from the point of view of the one-electron states localization. All the calculations were performed for a supercell containing 96 atoms. The divergence due to periodically repeated charges has been eliminated by the use of a uniform background charge of an opposite sign. (© 2…
Influence of oxygen ion elementary diffusion jumps on the electron current through the conductive filament in yttria stabilized zirconia nanometer-si…
2021
Abstract The structure of the electron current through an individual filament of a nanometer-sized virtual memristor consisting of a contact of a conductive atomic force microscope probe to an yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) thin film deposited on a conductive substrate is investigated. Usually, such investigation is performed by the analysis of the waveform of this current with the aim to extract the random telegraph noise (RTN). Here, we suggest a new indirect method, which is based on the measurement of the spectrum of the low-frequency flicker noise in this current without extracting the RTN, taking into account the geometrical parameters of the filament. We propose that the flicker no…
Diffraction-efficiency oscillations in amorphous As_2S_3 films
1999
An experimental study of the holographic gratings recorded in nonannealed, thermally with time relaxed amorphous As2S3 films by 514.5-nm light in the presence of 632.8-nm readout light is carried out. The dependences of the maximal first-order diffraction efficiency on the holographic grating period was studied in a wide range of periods, from 0.40 to 70.0 µm. A peculiar oscillatory diffraction-efficiency temporal behavior occurring under certain conditions is reported. The obtained results are discussed in terms of photoinduced structural changes, relaxational structural changes, photoinduced anisotropy, and photoinduced recharging of the localized states in the bandgap. The diffraction-ef…
ANNEALING EFFECT ON COERCIVITY AND MICROHARDNESS IN SINTERED (Nd, Tb)15(Fe, Co, Al)78B7 MAGNETS
1999
The variation of the coercivity and microhardness with annealing (475–1150°C/3.6 ks) of sintered (Nd, Tb) 15 (Fe, Co, Al) 78 B 7 permanent magnet have been investigated. The data indicate that the coercivity reaches the mininum and the maximum at 600°C and 775°C, respectively. Optical and scanning electron microscopy and magnetic domain structure observations give no hints to any change in microstructure. Fitting of the Mössbauer spectra of permanent magnets for different coercivity ( i H c ) values revealed that magnetic hyperfine fields (B Hf ) on all Fe sites are reduced with the increase in i H c value and the higher value of the i H c corresponds to the higher value of the Mössbauer l…
RANDOM SEQUENTIAL ADSORPTION ON A LINEAR LATTICE: EFFECT OF DIFFUSIONAL RELAXATION
1992
In this paper, the authors offer phenomenological arguments, supported by numerical Monte Carlo data, suggesting that the asymptotic large-time behavior of the coverage in the 1D lattice deposition of k-mers with k {gt} 3, accompanied by k-mer diffusion, is governed by the same mean-field dynamics as the lattice chemical reaction kA {yields} inert. The latter reaction is considered to occur with partial probability. The coverage in the deposition process approaches full saturation for any nonzero diffusion rate, and the void fraction decreases according to the power-law t{sup {minus}1/(k{minus}1)}.
