Posthumānisma domstarpības un Pigmaliona mīts Ričarda Pauersa romānā "Galatea 2,2"

2021

A muscarinic inhibition of the noradrenaline release evoked by postganglionic sympathetic nerve stimulation

1969

1. The noradrenaline output from isolated rabbit hearts perfused with Tyrode solution was estimated fluorimetrically. The postganglionic sympathetic nerves of the heart were stimulated (10 shocks/sec; 1 msec) for three 1 min periods with intervals of 10 min. 2. The noradrenaline output evoked by 3 consecutive stimulation periods decreased exponentially. 3. Acetylcholine (10−9–10−6 g/ml) administered continuously one min before to one min after the second stimulation caused a dose-dependent reduction of the noradrenaline output evoked by the second stimulation to as low as 19% of the normal value. Acetylcholine in the concentrations applied did not cause a noradrenaline output by itself. 4. …

Inhibition by parasympathetic nerve stimulation of the release of the adrenergic transmitter

1970

Isolated rabbit atria were perfused with Tyrode solution containing (+)-amphetamine. Electrical stimulation of the right postganglionic sympathetic fibres caused an output of noradrenaline which was significantly decreased by simultaneous stimulation of the vagus nerves.

Redescription of the forgotten New Caledonian weevil genus

2018

Abstract Callistomorphus is one of the “forgotten” genera of the tribe Eugnomini inhabiting rain forest in New Caledonia. In this paper, the genus Callistomorphus and the type species C.farinosus are redescribed. Eight new species, Callistomorphusfundatussp. n., C.gibbussp. n., C.malleussp. n., C.minimussp. n., C.rutaisp. n., C.szoltysisp. n., C.torosussp. n. and C.turbidussp. n., are described, originating from the main island of New Caledonia. Illustrations and SEM photographs of the external morphology and the male and female terminalia are provided, as well as dorsal habitus colour photographs of the adults, a key to the species, a distribution map, and a discussion of the systematic po…

Effects of forest restoration treatments on the abundance of bark beetles in Norway spruce forests of southern Finland

2009

Abstract Restoration of protected areas in boreal forests frequently includes creating substantial volumes of dead wood. While this benefits a wide range of dead wood dependent invertebrate species, some of these are regarded as forest pests. Therefore, the risk of elevated levels of tree mortality in surrounding commercial forests must be considered. In a large-scale field experiment in southern Finland, we studied the effects of restoration treatments on the abundance of bark beetles within and in the vicinity of restored areas, in particular focusing on Ips typographus and Pityogenes chalcographus . The treatments applied to managed Norway spruce forests were controlled burning and parti…

Influence of capsaicin-sensitive afferent neurones on the acid secretory responses of the rat stomach in vivo.

1990

1. The influence of capsaicin-sensitive afferent neurones in modulating acid-secretory responses has been investigated in the continuously perfused stomach of the anaesthetized rat. 2. Ablation of primary afferent neurones, after systemic neonatal pretreatment with high doses of capsaicin, did not modify acid responses to direct stimuli of the oxyntic cell with histamine (5 mg kg-1), pentagastrin (20 micrograms kg-1) or carbachol (4 micrograms kg-1). 3. Acid responses to hypoglycaemia induced by insulin (0.3 iu kg-1) were not influenced by systemic capsaicin pretreatment or by acute coeliac ganglionectomy. Vagotomy abolished this secretory response. 4. The increase in acid output induced by…

A measure of concurrent neural firing activity based on mutual information

2020

AbstractMultiple methods have been developed in an attempt to quantify stimulus-induced neural coordination and to understand internal coordination of neuronal responses by examining the synchronization phenomena in neural discharge patterns. In this work we propose a novel approach to estimate the degree of concomitant firing between two neural units, based on a modified form of mutual information (MI) applied to a two-state representation of the firing activity. The binary profile of each single unit unfolds its discharge activity in time by decomposition into the state of neural quiescence/low activity and state of moderate firing/bursting. Then, the MI computed between the two binary st…

Decreasing dietary linoleic acid promotes long chain omega-3 fatty acid incorporation into rat retina and modifies gene expression

2011

International audience; Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) may be partially prevented by dietary habits privileging the consumption of ω3 long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (ω3s) while lowering linoleic acid (LA) intake. The present study aimed to document whether following these epidemiological guidelines would enrich the neurosensory retina and RPE with ω3s and modulate gene expression in the neurosensory retina. Rat progenitors and pups were fed with diets containing low or high LA, and low or high ω3s. After scotopic single flash and 8-Hz-Flicker electroretinography, rat pups were euthanized at adulthood. The fatty acid profile of the neurosensory retina, RPE, liver, adipose tis…

Role of two sequence motifs of mesencephalic astrocyte-derived neurotrophic factor in its survival-promoting activity

2015

AbstractMesencephalic astrocyte-derived neurotrophic factor (MANF) is a prosurvival protein that protects the cells when applied intracellularly in vitro or extracellularly in vivo. Its protective mechanisms are poorly known. Here we studied the role of two short sequence motifs within the carboxy-(C) terminal domain of MANF in its neuroprotective activity: the CKGC sequence (a CXXC motif) that could be involved in redox reactions, and the C-terminal RTDL sequence, an endoplasmic reticulum (ER) retention signal. We mutated these motifs and analyzed the antiapoptotic effect and intracellular localization of these mutants of MANF when overexpressed in cultured sympathetic or sensory neurons. …

Prognostic value of International Neuroblastoma Pathology Classification in localized resectable peripheral neuroblastic tumors: a histopathologic st…

2006

Purpose To assess the prognostic value of clinical, biologic, and morphologic data in peripheral neuroblastic tumors, International Neuroblastoma Staging System (INSS) stages 2A and 2B MYCN nonamplified, a multinational protocol entitled Localized Neuroblastoma European Study Group trial 94.01, with a trial of surgery as the only treatment, was initiated in 1995. We present the prognostic value of the revised International Neuroblastoma Pathology Classification (INPC) applied to the patients included in this protocol until its closure in 1999. Materials and Methods A total of 120 neuroblastic tumors from trial patients were reviewed by the European International Society of Pediatric Oncolog…
