Lip squamous cell carcinoma in a Brazilian population : epidemiological study and clinicopathological associations

Objectives: It was evaluated epidemiological aspects of primary lip squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) and its associations with clinicopathological factors. Study design: This retrospective, cross-sectional study analysed a sociodemographic, clinical, and morphological data of HNSCC in a Brazilian population (n=30). Data analysis included descriptive statistics and bivariate analyses using the chi-square and Fisher's exact tests to compare the variables. Soft tissue sarcomas are aggressive tumors representing <1% of all adult neoplasms. Aim of our study was to evaluate promyelocytic leukemia gene expression value as prognostic factor and as a factor predicting response to alkylating agents/antracycline-based first line therapy. One hundred eleven patients affected by locally advanced and metastatic soft tissue sarcoma were selected. We investigated the association between the metabolic profiles of fasting plasma and the improvement of psychological well-being using non-targeted liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) platform. The electrically evoked blink reflex (BR) consists of an ipsilateral R1 component (R1) at 11 ms and two bilateral components R2 at 33 ms and R3 at 83 ms. It is still unclear whether the R2 is mediated by activation of tactile or nociceptive afferents. For testing the nociceptive hypothesis, nociceptors of the supraorbital nerve were selectively activated by infrared laser stimuli in 10 subjects. Only painful laser stimuli evoked a bilateral early polyphasic BR response (LR2) at 71 ms. Stimulation of infraorbital and mental nerve dermatomes was equally effective. Objectives To investigate the expression of IL-34 in labial salivary glands (LSGs) of patients with primary SS (p-SS) and its role in inducing a pro-inflammatory monocyte phenotype. Methods LSG biopsies were obtained from 20 patients with p-SS and 10 patients with non-Sjogren's sicca syndrome (n-SS). Background To demonstrate the value of videoroscopy in identifying lesions and alterations not seen by oroscopy and to select the area for biopsy. Material and Methods Eighty patients were subjected to anamnesis, physical exam, videoroscopy exam, toluidine blue test and biopsy. A diagram of the lips was created to record the exact location where the lesion was found. Results Physical exam identified 287 lesions, and videoroscopy identified 587 lesions; erythema and white lesions were the most common lesions associated with actinic cheilitis.
