Magnetic Langmuir-Blodgett films of ferritin with different iron contents.

2006

Magnetic Langmuir-Blodgett films of four ferritin derivatives with different iron contents containing 4220, 3062, 2200, and 1200 iron atoms, respectively, have been prepared by using the adsorption properties of a 6/1 mixed monolayer of methyl stearate (SME) and dioctadecyldimethylammonium bromide (DODA). The molecular organization of the mixed SME/DODA monolayer is strongly affected by the presence of the water-soluble protein in the subphase as shown by pi-A isotherms, BAM images, and imaging ellipsometry at the water-air interface. BAM images reveal the heterogeneity of this mixed monolayer at the air-water interface. We propose that the ferritin is located under the mixed matrix in thos…

Active monetary policy and instability in a phillips curve system

1998

The presence of nonlinearities in a Phillips curve system yields to complex dynamics, i.e., cyclical behavior that may (under some parametric set) become chaotic. This paper extends these conclusions by including an active monetary policy. We show how stabilization policy may lead to amplified instabilities and that agents' expectations tend to play a key role in the amount of these instabilities.

A possible solution of the puzzling variation of the orbital period of MXB 1659-298

2017

MXB 1659-298 is a transient neutron star Low-Mass X-ray binary system that shows eclipses with a periodicity of 7.1 hr. The source went to outburst in August 2015 after 14 years of quiescence. We investigate the orbital properties of this source with a baseline of 40 years obtained combining the eight eclipse arrival times present in literature with 51 eclipse arrival times collected during the last two outbursts. A quadratic ephemeris does not fit the delays associated with the eclipse arrival times and the addition of a sinusoidal term with a period of $2.31 \pm 0.02$ yr is required. We infer a binary orbital period of $P=7.1161099(3)$ hr and an orbital period derivative of $\dot{P}=-8.5(…

Multi-epoch VLTI-PIONIER imaging of the supergiant V766 Cen

2017

Context. The star V766 Cen (=HR 5171A) was originally classified as a yellow hypergiant but lately found to more likely be a 27-36 M red supergiant (RSG). Recent observations indicated a close eclipsing companion in the contact or common-envelope phase. Aims. Here, we aim at imaging observations of V766 Cen to confirm the presence of the close companion. Methods. We used near-infrared H-band aperture synthesis imaging at three epochs in 2014, 2016, and 2017, employing the PIONIER instrument at the Very Large Telescope Interferometer (VLTI). Results. The visibility data indicate a mean Rosseland angular diameter of 4.1 ± 0.8 mas, corresponding to a radius of 1575 ± 400 R. The data show an ex…

$L_2$-variation of L\'{e}vy driven BSDEs with non-smooth terminal conditions

2016

We consider the $L_2$-regularity of solutions to backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs) with Lipschitz generators driven by a Brownian motion and a Poisson random measure associated with a L\'{e}vy process $(X_t)_{t\in[0,T]}$. The terminal condition may be a Borel function of finitely many increments of the L\'{e}vy process which is not necessarily Lipschitz but only satisfies a fractional smoothness condition. The results are obtained by investigating how the special structure appearing in the chaos expansion of the terminal condition is inherited by the solution to the BSDE.

Minimax estimation with additional linear restrictions - a simulation study

1988

Let the parameter vector of the ordinary regression model be constrained by linear equations and in addition known to lie in a given ellipsoid. Provided the weight matrix A of the risk function has rank one, a restricted minimax estimator exists which combines both types of prior information. For general n.n.d. A two estimators as alternatives to the unfeasible exact minimax estimator are developed by minimizing an upper and a lower bound of the maximal risk instead. The simulation study compares the proposed estimators with competing least-squares estimators where remaining unknown parameters are replaced by suitable estimates.

Existence, uniqueness and Malliavin differentiability of Lévy-driven BSDEs with locally Lipschitz driver

2019

We investigate conditions for solvability and Malliavin differentiability of backward stochastic differential equations driven by a L\'evy process. In particular, we are interested in generators which satisfy a locally Lipschitz condition in the $Z$ and $U$ variable. This includes settings of linear, quadratic and exponential growths in those variables. Extending an idea of Cheridito and Nam to the jump setting and applying comparison theorems for L\'evy-driven BSDEs, we show existence, uniqueness, boundedness and Malliavin differentiability of a solution. The pivotal assumption to obtain these results is a boundedness condition on the terminal value $\xi$ and its Malliavin derivative $D\xi…

On Limiting Fréchet ε-Subdifferentials

1998

This paper presents an e-sub differential calculus for nonconvex and nonsmooth functions. We extend the previous work by Jofre et all to the case where the functions are lower semicontinuous instead of locally Lipschitz.

On stability and dissipativity of stochastic nonlinear systems

2012

Input-to-state stability of nonlinear control system is described in several different manners, and has been a central concept since the equivalences among them were verified. In this paper, a framework of stability and dissipativity for stochastic control systems is constructed on the maximal existence interval of behaviors (states and external inputs), by the aid of stochastic Barbalat lemma and stochastic dissipativity. The main work consists of three aspects. First, input-to-state stability and robust stability are extended to the stochastic case, and several criteria are established. Second, two forms of dissipativity and their criteria are presented. Third, the key relations among the…

The Structure of Group Identification

2017

The concept of group identification has been widely discussed in the fields of social psychology and social ontology. The debate has been somewhat unbalanced, however. The structure, nature, and experiential status of groups have been assessed widely and from several perspectives. Instead, the concept of identification as received considerably less attention. This is why the ongoing debate threatens to be misled by various conceptual ambiguities. These ambiguities concern first and foremost the target, structure, and temporal nature of identification. The present article offers a philosophical analysis of the concept and clarifies the conceptual ambiguities haunting the debate. peerReviewed
