Managers as Moral Leaders : Moral Identity Processes in the Context of Work
2020
AbstractThis qualitative study explores how business leaders narrate their personal ways of recognizing, reasoning, and resolving moral conflicts and what these stories reveal about their moral identity processes within organizational contexts. Based on interviews with 25 business leaders, 4 moral identity statuses were identified: achievement (commitment to a personally meaningful moral value framework that had been established through a period of self-exploration), moratorium (self-exploration of one’s moral value framework that was ongoing), foreclosure (commitment to a given moral value framework that was present with little or no personal self-exploration), and diffusion (neither clear…
Wittgenstein’s “Inner and Outer”: Overcoming Epistemic Asymmetry
2013
In this article, I identify three ways in which Wittgenstein opposed an idea of epistemic asymmetry between the first person and the secondor-third person. Examining the questions of 1) absence of doubt about my own experience and uncertainty about the experiences of others, 2) ineffability of subjective experience and 3) immediacy of my knowledge of my own experience contrasted with my merely inferential knowledge about the experiences of others, I see Wittgenstein’s remarks about “inner and outer” as a many-faceted denial of the claim that people’s minds are in some deep way unknowable to others. These considerations also serve to clarify Wittgenstein’s relation to behaviorism. 1. Wittgen…
Exact constants in Poincaré type inequalities for functions with zero mean boundary traces
2014
In this paper, we investigate Poincare type inequalities for the functions having zero mean value on the whole boundary of a Lipschitz domain or on a measurable part of the boundary. We find exact and easily computable constants in these inequalities for some basic domains (rectangles, cubes, and right triangles) and discuss applications of the inequalities to quantitative analysis of partial differential equations. Geometric and numerical techniques to compute conjugate and cut loci on Riemannian surfaces
2014
International audience; We combine geometric and numerical techniques - the Hampath code - to compute conjugate and cut loci on Riemannian surfaces using three test bed examples: ellipsoids of revolution, general ellipsoids, and metrics with singularities on S2 associated to spin dynamics.

Spectroscopic ellipsometry (SE) is a non-invasive, non-destructive, and contactless optical technique which is based on the change in the polarization state of light as it is typically reflected from a thin film sample. Often seen primarily as ex situ or of particularly helpful interest to control in situ vacuum growth processes, SE can also be promoted as an analytical tool to diagnose electrolyte-electrode interface during wet processes. I will mainly highlight in this document my researches contributions in this field: (i) the very early growth stages of bismuth telluride electrodeposition, (ii) the physico-chemical properties of oxides grown in the early regime of plasma electrolytic ox…

The fluorescence labelling, used by the fluorescence biochips, is known to change the charge distribution of the labelled molecules and then modify their biological activity. Among label free biosensors, we choose an optical detection, such as spectroscopic ellipsometry and/or surface plasmon resonance (SPR) of the biolayers. These optical techniques are based on the measurement of both thickness and optical index of the adsorbed biolayer. An AFM statistical measurement of the thickness of functionalized lithographed microstructures has been performed in order to determine the thickness of the biolayers. We have shown that the spectroscopic reading of the SPR phase shift is 100 times more sen…
Morphological and chemical dynamics upon electrochemical cyclic sodiation of electrochromic tungsten oxide coatings extracted by in situ ellipsometry.
2020
The sodiation–desodiation process of sputtered amorphous electrochromic tungsten oxide coatings in an aqueous-based medium was simultaneously monitored over 99 cycles by cyclic voltammetry and in situ spectroscopic ellipsometry. This allowed extracting the evolution of optical and geometrical parameters upon cycling. The resulting electrochemical coloring-bleaching process was dynamically fitted in the 1.8–2.8 eV optical range with a four-phase model including a constrained spline parametrization of the dielectric function. This allows real time access to thickness, surface roughness, and dielectric function of N a x W O 3 . The temporal evolution of the latter in the fully colored state wa…
Reliable numerical solution of a class of nonlinear elliptic problems generated by the Poisson-Boltzmann equation
2020
We consider a class of nonlinear elliptic problems associated with models in biophysics, which are described by the Poisson-Boltzmann equation (PBE). We prove mathematical correctness of the problem, study a suitable class of approximations, and deduce guaranteed and fully computable bounds of approximation errors. The latter goal is achieved by means of the approach suggested in [S. Repin, A posteriori error estimation for variational problems with uniformly convex functionals. Math. Comp., 69:481-500, 2000] for convex variational problems. Moreover, we establish the error identity, which defines the error measure natural for the considered class of problems and show that it yields computa…
