Monotonicity-based inversion of the fractional Schr\"odinger equation II. General potentials and stability

2019

In this work, we use monotonicity-based methods for the fractional Schr\"odinger equation with general potentials $q\in L^\infty(\Omega)$ in a Lipschitz bounded open set $\Omega\subset \mathbb R^n$ in any dimension $n\in \mathbb N$. We demonstrate that if-and-only-if monotonicity relations between potentials and the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map hold up to a finite dimensional subspace. Based on these if-and-only-if monotonicity relations, we derive a constructive global uniqueness results for the fractional Calder\'on problem and its linearized version. We also derive a reconstruction method for unknown obstacles in a given domain that only requires the background solution of the fractional Sch…

In-situ characterisation of organosilane films formation on aluminium alloys by electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance and in-situ ellipsometry

2005

Abstract Organosilane pre-treatments have been studied intensively during the last years in order to replace hexavalent chromium conversion treatments. The aim of this study is to follow in-situ the formation of this organosilane layer in solution. Two in-situ techniques, spectroscopic ellipsometry and electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance, were used to investigate the mechanism and the kinetics of this protective film formation. In-situ measurements highlight that the organosilane film observed after the drying process is not formed into the solution, but during the emersion and drying step. Hence, it has been possible to characterise the presence of a very thin organosilane layer in…

Ellipsometric thickness and coverage of physisorbed layers of Xe, Kr, Ar and N2 on graphite

1990

Multilayer isotherms of Xe, Kr, Ar and N2 physisorbed on graphite (001) have been studied by ellipsometry. It is shown that the model of Dignam and Fedyk provides an excellent basis for the interpretation of the ellipsometric thickness in terms of the coverage and the polarizability of the admolecules. For N2 conclusions concerning the orientation of the molecule are drawn.

MR2553995 (2010h:26008): Mihail, Alexandru The Arzela-Ascoli theorem for partial defined functions. An. Univ. Bucureşti Mat. 57 (2008), no. 2, 259–26…

2008

In this paper the author gives a generalization of the Arzela-Ascoli theorem for partial defined functions, i.e., for functions defined in a nonempty subset of a metric space X and taking values in a metric space Y. To this end suitable definitions of local and uniform convergence for partial defined functions are introduced. As an application a different proof of a known result concerning the existence of Lipschitz selections for Lipschitz multifunctions is given. Reviewed by Luisa Di Piazza

Updated orbital ephemeris of the ADC source X 1822-371: a stable orbital expansion over 40 years

2019

The source X 1822-371 is an eclipsing compact binary system with a period close to 5.57 hr and an orbital period derivative $\dot{P}_{\rm orb}$ of 1.51(7)$\times 10^{-10}$ s s$^{-1}$. The very large value of $\dot{P}_{\rm orb}$ is compatible with a super-Eddington mass transfer rate from the companion star, as suggested by X-ray and optical data. The XMM-Newton observation taken in 2017 allows us to update the orbital ephemeris and verify whether the orbital period derivative has been stable over the last 40 yr. We added to the X-ray eclipse arrival times from 1977 to 2008 two new values obtained from the RXTE and XMM-Newton observations performed in 2011 and 2017, respectively. We estimate…

Microphysical and optical properties of Arctic mixed-phase clouds. The 9 April 2007 case study.

2009

Abstract. Airborne measurements in Arctic boundary-layer stratocumulus were carried out near Spitsbergen on 9 April 2007 during the Arctic Study of Tropospheric Aerosol, Clouds and Radiation (ASTAR) campaign. A unique set of co-located observations is used to describe the cloud properties, including detailed in situ cloud microphysical and radiation measurements along with airborne and co-located spaceborne remote sensing data (Lidar on Cloud-Aerosol Lidar and Infrared Pathfinder Satellite Observations [CALIPSO] and radar on CloudSat satellites). The CALIPSO profiles evidence a cloud top temperature which varies between −24°C and −21°C. The in situ cloud observations reveal that the attenua…

Experimental modeling of viscous inclusions in a circular high-strain shear rig: Implications for the interpretation of shape fabrics and deformed en…

2002

[1] Deformation experiments with initially spherical and prolate viscous inclusions suspended in a viscous Newtonian matrix in a circular high strain annular shear rig provide insights on the shape development of inclusions in high strain shear zones during progressive deformation. Inclusions with a specific viscosity ratio with respect to the matrix material show distinct types of three-dimensional shape development. For instance, at a high viscosity ratio between matrix and inclusion a pulsating ellipsoid develops, which both continuously rotates and changes its shape from a sphere to an ellipsoid and back to a sphere. The experiments show that the shape of an inclusion that has a viscosi…
