Visual complexity is relevant for many areas ranging from improving usability of technical displays or websites up to understanding aesthetic experiences. Parallel implementation on DSPs of a face detection algorithm

In order to localize the face in an image, our approach consists of approximating the face oval shape with an ellipse and to compute coordinates of the center of the ellipse. For this purpose, we explore a new version of the Hough transformation: the fuzzy generalized Hough transformation. To reduce the computation time, we present also a parallel implementation of the algorithm on 2 digital signal processors and we show that an acceleration of a factor of 1.62 has been obtained.

Enhanced Reflectivity Change and Phase Shift of Polarized Light: Double Parameter Multilayer Sensor

Herein, the concept of point of darkness based on polarized light phase difference and absorption of light is demonstrated by simulations using low refractive index and extinction coefficient semiconductor and dielectric, and high refractive index nonoxidizing metal multilayer thin film structures. Several multilayer sensor configurations show great sensitivity to thickness and refractive index variation of the detectable material by measuring the reflectivity ratio {\Psi} and phase shift {\Delta}. Auto calibration of a cone-beam-CT

Purpose: This paper introduces a novel autocalibration method for cone-beam-CTs (CBCT) or flat-panel CTs, assuming a perfect rotation. The method is based on ellipse-fitting. Autocalibration refers to accurate recovery of the geometric alignment of a CBCT device from projection images alone, without any manual measurements. The standard approach of applying univariate tests on individual response variables has the advantage of simplicity of interpretation, but it fails to account for the covariance/correlation in the data. Characterization of ellipsoids through an overdetermined boundary value problem of Monge–Ampère type

Abstract The study of the optimal constant in an Hessian-type Sobolev inequality leads to a fully nonlinear boundary value problem, overdetermined with non-standard boundary conditions. We show that all the solutions have ellipsoidal symmetry. In the proof we use the maximum principle applied to a suitable auxiliary function in conjunction with an entropy estimate from affine curvature flow.

Tratamiento del carcinoma de labio mediante braquiterapia de alta tasa de dosis

Dado los diferentes métodos terapéuticos para el cáncer de labio, el objetivo del presente estudio es valorar los resultados obtenidos en un grupo prospectivo de 28 pacientes afectos de carcinoma de labio tratados mediante moldes externos de braquiterapia de alta tasa de dosis. Tanto por la remisión completa que ocurrió en todos los casos, la buena tolerancia a la terapia, la ausencia de complicaciones y de recurrencias, la facilidad de empleo de los moldes, la precisión en el posicionamiento de la fuente en la repetición diaria del tratamiento y la seguridad que ofrece en cuanto a radioprotección, concluímos que esta terapéutica probablemente se convierta en la de uso habitual en los próxi…
