Les socialistes et la CGT. Le tournant du Front populaire (1934-1939)
2006
Pleasurable music affects reinforcement learning according to the listener.
2013
Mounting evidence links the enjoyment of music to brain areas implicated in emotion and the dopaminergic reward system. In particular, dopamine release in the ventral striatum seems to play a major role in the rewarding aspect of music listening. Striatal dopamine also influences reinforcement learning, such that subjects with greater dopamine efficacy learn better to approach rewards while those with lesser dopamine efficacy learn better to avoid punishments. In this study, we explored the practical implications of musical pleasure through its ability to facilitate reinforcement learning via non-pharmacological dopamine elicitation. Subjects from a wide variety of musical backgrounds chose…
Listening to the Literary: On the Novelistic Poetics of the Podcast
2020
In comparing the 300-year-old form of the novel and the more recent one of the podcast, Patrick Gill contends that there are indeed parallels between the two. In concentrating on the central ideas of scope, focus, affect, and narration, the essay argues that both the novel and the podcast exploit similar affordances to make their consumers feel actively engaged and emotionally involved in the media experience. Gill then analyses in how far the emphasis placed on these parallels by cultural commentators and podcast producers alike is due to essential similarities and in how far it derives from a desire to use the idea of the novel as a shorthand for an artefact that is somehow deemed more va…
Eiropas migrantu krīzes ietekme uz radikāli labēju-populistisku partiju popularitātes vairošanos: Vācijas, Apvienotās Karalistes un Latvijas gadījuma…
2017
Journalists’ Associations as Political Instruments in Central and Eastern Europe
2017
This editorial provides the overall context for the five cases—three national and two international—covered in this thematic issue. While the cases are from Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), they highlight fundamental questions of journalism everywhere, including contradictions between freedom and control, professionalism and politics, individual and collective. The associations of journalists serve as very useful platforms to study these questions, especially at historical turning points when the whole political system changed, as happened twice in CEE after World War II.

Growth potential of Listeria monocytogenes strains in mixed ready-to-eat salads
2009
In this study, a microbiological challenge test in three artificially contaminated retail mixed mayonnaise-based ready-to-eat salads stored at refrigerator temperatures (3°C and 7°C) for 48h was carried out. Shrimp-tomato salad, smoked ham salad and garlic cheese salad were separately contaminated by a suspension of particular Listeria monocytogenes strains. The number of L. monocytogenes, Enterobacteriaceae, staphylococci and total plate count (CFU/g) was determined. Listeria monocytogenes growth potential in the salads was calculated and evaluated. A significant increase in total plate count and L. monocytogenes count throughout storage of all three investigated salads was found. Enteroba…
Singuliers généralistes. Sociologie de la médecine générale.
2010
Role of caspase-8 in hepatocyte response to infection and injury in mice.
2007
Caspase-8 has been implicated in signaling for apoptotic cell death and for certain nonapoptotic functions. However, knowledge of actual physiological or pathophysiological processes to which this enzyme contributes is lacking. Using a mouse model and employing the conditional knockout approach to delete the caspase-8 gene specifically in the liver, we found that caspase-8 deficiency in hepatocytes facilitates infection of the liver by Listeria monocytogenes, attenuates the hepatocyte proliferation wave during the first 48 hours after partial hepatectomy and, depending on the genetic background of the mice, prompts a chronic inflammatory response to the hepatectomy, as a result of which the…
Antilisterial peptides from Spanish dry-cured hams: Purification and identification.
2016
The typical Spanish dry-cured ham has a particular sensory quality that makes it a distinctive food, highly appreciated for consumers worldwide. Its particular physicochemical properties, such as high salt content and reduced water activity contribute to their shelf-stability. However, post-processing actions carried out for the commercialization of these products such as slicing may increase the risk of development of pathogenic microorganisms as Listeria monocytogenes. During ripening, muscle proteins are hydrolyzed by muscle peptidases releasing peptides and free amino acids. Some of these peptides have been described to exert biological activities such as antioxidant and ACE-inhibition.…
