Organe des « Jeunes-Turcs », ces officiers réformateurs brésiliens partis en Allemagne entre 1906 et 1912 pour finaliser leur formation, la revue militaire A Defeza Nacional demeure aujourd’hui l’un des principaux lieux d’exposition de la doctrine des forces armées. Dirigée par Bertholdo Klinger, elle popularisa la thèse du pouvoir conservateur des militaires, moins sous l’angle constitutionnel que sous l’aspect social, du fait des interférences du « pouvoir spirituel » du positivisme comtien.

Purpose: The effectiveness of a 12-month home-exercise program on trunk muscle strength after lumbar spine fusion surgery was evaluated. Materials and methods: Three months postoperatively, 98 patients were randomized either to the exercise group (EG), with a progressive 12-month home-based exercise program, or to usual care group (UCG), with one guidance session for light home-exercises. Maximal trunk muscle strength was measured by a strain-gauge dynamometer and trunk extensor endurance was measured by Biering-Sørensen’s test at baseline and after the intervention. Who enjoys listening to sad music and why?

although people generally avoid negative emotional experiences in general, they often enjoy sadness portrayed in music and other arts. The present study investigated what kinds of subjective emotional experiences are induced in listeners by sad music, and whether the tendency to enjoy sad music is associated with particular personality traits. One hundred forty-eight participants listened to 16 music excerpts and rated their emotional responses. As expected, sadness was the most salient emotion experienced in response to sad excerpts. Music is appreciated for emotional reasons across cultures, but knowledge on the cross-cultural similarities and differences of music-evoked emotions is still sparse. The current study compared music-evoked emotions in Finland and in India, contextualizing them within the perceived psychological functionality of music in an individualistic versus collectivistic culture. The present research investigated differences in the brain dynamics of continuous, real-world music listening between listeners with and without professional musical training, using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI).
