El objetivo de este trabajo es explorar la relación entre las prácticas utilizadas por los docentes para enseñar a leer y a escribir en el inicio de la escolaridad y las oportunidades de aprendizaje. Se realiza un análisis cualitativo de una serie de tareas !levadas a cabo en aulas donde desarrollan tres tipos de prácticas diferentes -instruccionales, multidimensionales y sítuacionales-. The Internet is a significant information resource for students due to the ease of access it allows to a vast amount of information. As the quality of the information on the Internet varies, it is important that students are able to evaluate such information critically. The aim of the study was to investigate how students evaluate Internet sources in an authentic learning task. Upper secondary school students ( n = 25) were asked to look for source material on the Internet in order to write an essay. Teaching master's degree students to read research literature

The skill to read research literature critically belongs in every university graduate’s toolbox. I have attempted to teach this skill in a master’s degree level course in programming languages over 15 years using, at various times, simulated conferences, voluntary reading exercises, evidence-based practice training, and a flipped classroom with mandatory reading assignments. I discuss my experience and analyze preliminary qualitative data on the use of evidence-based practice and a flipped classroom for this purpose. I present no firm conclusions, but expect that future work (by me or others) will be able to use my experience as a baseline for better teaching of research literature reading.…

Understanding the role of cross-language transfer of phonological awareness in emergent Hindi–English biliteracy acquisition

AbstractThis study examined within and cross-language relations, and specifically, the role of phonological awareness (PA) skills in reading among young Hindi-speaking children (L1) who were learning to read English (L2) in Delhi, India. Data was collected from 143 children in Grades 1 and 2 using measures validated for this population. The analyses examined the associations between L1 and L2 PA and decoding, both within and across the two languages. The results showed that PA skills within each language significantly predicted decoding in that language. Este trabajo pretende, en primer lugar, cuestionar extendidas concepciones de la tecnología que la presentan como mera aplicación de los conocimientos científicos y que están contribuyendo a una imagen distorsionada y empobrecida de la naturaleza de la ciencia y la tecnología y, consecuentemente, al desinterés e incluso rechazo hacia su estudio. En segundo lugar se presentan los resultados de una investigación cuyo objetivo es analizar en qué medida dichas concepciones afectan incluso al profesorado encargado de la alfabetización tecnológica. Finalmente se aborda la transformación de dichas concepciones.
