A systematic review and meta-analysis of the benefits of school-based, peer-led interventions for leaders
2022
The aim of our systematic review and meta-analysis was to quantitatively synthesise the effects of school-based peer-led interventions on leaders’ academic, psychosocial, behavioural, and physical outcomes. Eligible studies were those that: (i) evaluated a school-based peer-led intervention using an experimental or quasi-experimental study design, (ii) included an age-matched control or comparison group, and (iii) evaluated the impact of the intervention on one or more leader outcomes. Medline, Sportdiscus, Psychinfo, Embase, and Scopus online databases were searched on the 24th of October, 2022 which yielded 13,572 results, with 31 included in the narrative synthesis and 12 in the meta-ana…
Vers une plateforme sémantique pour l'enseignement des sciences et de la culture numérique
2016
The technologies of Semantic Web for education have several advantages: accessibility and sustainability of resources, increased clarification and organization. Here we present our project of a semantic platform, the interest of those technologies, and a human / machine communication model that helps learner, teacher and scientist to think better, reflexively, the activities of each of them. The experiments about digital culture pave the way for a quality digital training.
Players' progression through GraphoGame, an early literacy game: Influence of game design and context of play
2019
Researchers of serious games frequently investigate outcomes of play but overlook the underlying game-design components that drive those outcomes. In this paper, I aim to show how game design and context of play influence progression through GraphoGame, an early-literacy game. This is done by means of two intersecting studies. The first study shows how the game can be represented by a model that explicitly hypothesizes how the interaction between the player and the game drives progression. The second study explores user data generated by first graders (N = 137) who played the game over a period of 25 weeks as part of early literacy instruction. The juxtaposition of these two studies reveals…
Learning to read for the first time as adult immigrants in Finland : Reviewing pertinent research of low-literate or non-literate learners’ literacy …
2018
Against the backdrop of increasing global humanitarian migration to highly literate countries and the resulting necessity and challenge to provide language and literacy education to non-literate or low-literate adult second language (L2) learners, this article calls for more research on a new population of late literacy learners, particularly in Finland. The article begins by outlining the pressing necessity for research on this special group of L2 learners who has traditionally been ignored by Second Language Acquisition (SLA) research. It will then go on to illuminate essential components of developing reading literacy, drawing on relevant previous research on pre-literates. Further, the …
Nouvelles technologies et aide à la compréhension de documents techniques : Construction et expérimentation d'un simulateur de fonctionnement de grue…
2001
Reading skills are more and more required to succeed professional examination. French crane drivers are concerned with this problem. In order to help them, we have conducted a study with three main steps. First, we carried out a cognitive work analysis. Second, we test several analogical modalities of written presentations focusing on the construction of a specific simulator. Finally, two experiments are presented showing a significative effect of this simulator on the comprehension of cranes technical documentation.
Foreign Language Pre-Service Teachers’ Attitudes Towards Integrated Technology
2020
The COVID-19 pandemic worldwide evidenced the need to revise and strengthen the current perspective of the role of technology in non-technology-based classes. The current situation requires the revision of practices and basic knowledge of computer literacy and use. Traditionally, technology in the process of language learning has been considered anecdotical. As a result, many teachers do not have the necessary skills to implement proper technology-supported classes. Being that the case at Universidad de Alcalá (Spain), we looked at the students’ needs in integrating a number of different applications in the classroom in order to provide them with additional technological skills. Twenty-two …
Consapevolmente intelligenti: un’indagine esplorativa sull’uso dei social network nella scuola primaria
2017
Abstract – Social Networks are a noteworthy opportunity to build a more caring and responsible society, a practice that is assimilated by learning to use the Web in a conscious way. The media competence takes the form of expertise both to active participation to the Web and to society. The focus is on the need to acquire the know-how to exploit the media, with particular reference to social networks, in a clever way so as to make them intelligent instruments. From an educational point of view, Social Networks offer a different potential because they are able to support the functions of socialization, of sharing and of coordination; to encourage dialogue, promote resources sharing and improv…
Mobile Apps and Social Media
2017
1The increasing penetration of smartphones among global population, especially among youth and children, has define a mobile and interactive media use without any precedent. A global connected world is the context in where our offspring are developing self-competences in media literacy because they manage technological devices at very early ages. This context is the state of affairs of this article in which we present two different steps: firstly, a theoretical study, showing the impact of mobile devices, focusing on smartphones and mobile applications where the question arisen is: What are children and young doing while online? Media literacy is also described in order to apply its dimensi…
Argument graph as a tool for promoting collaborative online reading
2013
This study explored how the construction of an argument graph promotes students' collaborative online reading compared to note-taking. Upper secondary school students (n = 76) worked in pairs. The pairs were asked to search for and read source material on the Web for a joint essay and either construct an argument graph or take notes during online reading. The data consist of transcription protocols of student pairs' discussions and joint essays. The study indicated that argument graphs may be useful tools when teachers want students to pay attention to the argumentative content of online sources and to consider relations between arguments. Additionally, with argument graphs, teachers can su…
