Bis(2-ethylhexyl)phosphoric acid/bis(2-ethylhexyl)amine mixtures as solvent media for lithium-ions: A dynamical study
2016
Abstract The self-diffusion coefficient, the spin-lattice relaxation times and ionic conductivity of lithium ions in liquid mixtures composed of bis(2-ethylhexyl)amine (BEEA) and bis(2-ethylhexyl)phosphoric acid (HDEHP) have been thoroughly investigated as a function of composition and temperature by NMR spectroscopy and conductometry. While the temperature and composition dependence of diffusion coefficients of lithium ions follow the same trend observed for those of the surfactant molecules, the spin-lattice relaxation times of lithium ions and 1 H are remarkably different. The observed behavior has been interpreted in terms of lithium ions diffusion occurring through its association with…
Novel lithocholaphanes: Syntheses, NMR, MS, and molecular modeling studies
2007
Abstract Novel head-to-head lithocholaphanes 6 and 11 have been synthesized via precursors 1 – 5 and 7 – 10 with overall good yields, and characterized by 1 H, 13 C, and 15 N NMR spectroscopy, ESI-TOF mass spectrometry, thermal analysis, and molecular modeling. In addition, the binding abilities of 6 and 11 towards alkali metal cations have been investigated via competitive complexation studies using equimolar mixtures of Li + , Na + , K + , and Rb + -cations, and cholaphanes 6 and 11 . The formation of cation–cholaphane adducts was detected by ESI-TOF mass spectrometry. The trends in these comparative binding studies are nicely reproduced theoretically with PM3 energetically optimized stru…
Tratamiento psicofarmacológico del trastorno bipolar en América Latina
2011
Objective: This study assessed the treatment preferences among Latin-American psychiatrists for their bipolar disorder patients and if these preferences reflect the current guidelines. Methods: We designed a survey comprised of fourteen questions. All the questions were aimed at the treatment of bipolar I patients only. We distributed the survey by hand or e-mail to psychiatrists in eight different countries: Argentina, Brasil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, México, Perú and Venezuela. Between May 2008 and June 2009, we were able to gather 1143 surveys. Results: As the initial choice of treatment for a bipolar patient who debuts with mania, 61.3% choose a combination of an atypical antipsyc…

On the nuclear response of the helium-cooled lithium lead test blanket module in ITER
2005
Abstract The helium-cooled lithium lead (HCLL) concept has been recently selected as one of the two European reference designs foreseen for the breeding blanket of a demonstration fusion reactor. In particular, within the framework of the research and development activities on this blanket line, an HCLL test blanket module (TBM) has to be designed and manufactured to be implemented in ITER. At the Department of Nuclear Engineering (DIN) of the University of Palermo, a research campaign has been carried out to investigate the nuclear response of HCLL-TBM inside ITER by a numerical approach based on the Monte Carlo method. A realistic 3D heterogeneous model of HCLL-TBM has been set-up and ins…
A study of the potential influence of frame coolant distribution on the radiation-induced damage of HCLL-TBM structural material
2008
Abstract Within the European Fusion Technology Programme, the Helium-Cooled Lithium Lead (HCLL) breeding blanket concept is one of the two EU lines to be developed for a Long Term fusion reactor, in particular with the aim of manufacturing a Test Blanket Module (TBM) to be implemented in ITER. The HCLL-TBM is foreseen to be located in an ITER equatorial port, being housed inside a steel-supporting frame, actively cooled by pressurized water. That supporting frame has been designed to house two different TBMs, providing two cavities separated by a dividing Plate 20 cm thick. As the nuclear response of HCLL-TBM might vary accordingly to the supporting frame configuration and composition, at t…
Study of the helium-cooled lithium lead test blanket module nuclear behaviour under irradiation in ITER
2009
Abstract The present paper deals with the detailed investigation of the helium-cooled lithium lead test blanket module (HCLL-TBM) nuclear behaviour under irradiation in ITER, carried out at the Department of Nuclear Engineering of the University of Palermo adopting a numerical approach based on the Monte Carlo method. A realistic 3D heterogeneous model of the HCLL-TBM was set-up and inserted into an ITER 3D semi-heterogeneous model that realistically simulates the reactor lay-out up to the cryostat. A Gaussian-shaped neutron source was adopted for the calculations. The main features of the HCLL-TBM nuclear response were assessed, paying a particular attention to the neutronic and photonic d…
<title>Manifestation of structural features in Raman spectra of LiNbO<formula><inf><roman>3</roman></inf></for…
2008
Raman studies of ostensibly pure congruent, close to stoichiometric and stoichiometric lithium niobate single crystals and single crystals of lithium niobate containing admixture of Gd3+, Y+, and Mg2+ are reported. The authors have revealed weak Raman bands anomalously narrowing at changes of crystal composition disordering the cation sublattice and discuss the results with regard to evidence of anomalous ordering of structural units of the cation sublattice occurring at disordering of the cation sublattice as a whole.© (2008) COPYRIGHT SPIE--The International Society for Optical Engineering. Colour centres in LiBaF3 crystals
1998
Abstract The origin of the absorption bands in LiBaF 3 created by X-ray irradiation at RT has been investigated. It is found that three absorption bands at 270, 320 and 430 nm represent different electron transitions within a radiation defect effectively created in LiBaF 3 single crystals. Following the Mollwo–Ivey relation we discuss investigations of optical dichroism, magnetic optical dichroism, as well as the assumptions regarding the accumulation kinetics of these absorption bands, the F centre being the main radiation defect created by X-rays in undoped LiBaF 3 crystals at RT.
