Determination of the irradiation field at the research reactor TRIGA Mainz for BNCT.
2009
For the application of the BNCT for the excorporal treatment of organs at the TRIGA Mainz, the basic characteristics of the radiation field in the thermal column as beam geometry, neutron and gamma ray energies, angular distributions, neutron flux, as well as absorbed gamma and neutron doses must be determined in a reproducible way. To determine the mixed irradiation field thermoluminescence detectors (TLD) made of CaF(2):Tm with a newly developed energy-compensation filter system and LiF:Mg,Ti materials with different (6)Li concentrations and different thicknesses as well as thin gold foils were used.
Trap Spectroscopy by the Glow Rate Technique using Bleaching of Colour Centres
2002
An application of the glow rate technique (GRT) for analysis of the parameters of thermostimulated decay of colour centres is presented using the data on the decay of radiation defects in LiBaF 3 :Fe crystals created by X rays at 300 K. The GRT offers a procedure for evaluation of the mean activation energy as a function of temperature in the case of arbitrary thermostimulated relaxation kinetics represented by the trap distribution function. The experimental procedure involves at least two subsequent measurements of thermostimulated decay kinetics at different heating rates. It is shown that the decay of the F type centres is governed by interaction of mobile anion vacancies with F A and F…
Evaluation of the relative thermoluminescence efficiency of LiF:Mg,Ti and LiF:Mg,Cu,P TL detectors to low-energy heavy ions
2013
Abstract The most popular types of LiF-based thermoluminescent (TL) detectors, LiF:Mg,Ti (MTS-N) and LiF:Mg,Cu,P (MCP-N), have been investigated, with respect to their dose (fluence) response and relative TL efficiency to different ion species. The detectors were irradiated using the nitrogen, iron, krypton and xenon ion beams, at energies ranging from 5.0 to 9.3 MeV/n. Supra- and sublinear response was found, for the MTS-N and MCP-N, respectively, similarly as observed for γ-rays. However, the level of nonlinearity of response of studied detectors is strongly reduced by increasing values of the ion ionization density (no supralinearity for Xe ions, for MTS-N, within calculated uncertaintie…
Dielectric properties of lithium niobate single crystals doped with gadolinium
2013
In this paper dielectric properties of LiNbO3:Gd single crystals at temperatures ~ 290–490 K at narrow frequency range (0.5–106 Hz) are presented. The influence of growth conditions was also investigated. The anomalies on dielectric plots depend on the development of the micro- and nano-domain structure.
On the mechanism of the addition of organolithium reagents to cinnamic acids
2001
Abstract The regioselectivity of the addition of tert-butyllithium to cinnamic acid is subject to reaction conditions and to substituent electronic effects. Significant effects are observed in the presence of several additives including a radical trap such as α-methylstyrene. Competition experiments by addition of the organolithium reagent to mixtures of substituted cinnamic acids show that the relative rates of both conversion of the starting acids and formation of the 1,3-adducts are subject to electronic effects, whereas rates for 1,4-addition are independent of the substituents. These features are in agreement with a polar addition mechanism, but a fast SET equilibrium followed by slow …

ESR spectroscopic analyses of the deep-green solutions of living poly(2-isopropenylnaphthalene) [poly(2-IPN)] in THF at −80°C provided no evidence of the presence of radical anions as long as butyllithium (BuLi) was used as initiator. In contrast to this finding, radicals could indeed be detected if the polymerization was performed with metallic potassium in THF. These radicals were found to be only stable at low temperatures. UV/VIS spectra of solutions of 2-IPN in THF or toluene and of catalytic quantities of BuLi were recorded at temperatures between −45 and +20°C. On heating to >0°C, the colour of the deep-green solution changes irreversibly to reddish-brown, and this colour change is a…
Kinetics of particle growth and particle composition of a commercial Al-Li alloy by means of small-angle scattering
1991
Abstract Extending previous work done on a similar alloy, small-angle X-ray scattering measurements are reported for a commercial Al-Cu-Li alloy (2–68% Cu and 1–88% Li by weight). Data have been analysed by means of an ellipsoidal model of precipitate particles using a method previously proposed by some of us which, incorporating interparticle interference effects, reproduces the fuli scattering intensities of the samples studied. Particie dimensions obtained from the fit indicate that the Lifshitz-Slyozov coarsening mechanism holds for ageing at higher temperatures and longer times. The activation energy for volume diffusivity obtained is similar to that of pure binary alloys. The scatteri…
Raman study of crystals
1997
In this work we present a polarized Raman study of single crystals for several values of the concentration made using different scattering geometries. The Raman spectra, composed of broad bands, have been fitted in accordance with a symmetry analysis which allowed us to assign the vibrational modes, and determine their frequencies and damping constants. The results are compatible with an average hexagonal symmetry for the solid solutions with x in the range . In each of the spectra we found two bands at about 590 and , probably associated with the existence of structures in the solid solutions.
Isotope dependence of the Zeeman effect in lithium-like calcium
2016
The magnetic moment μ of a bound electron, generally expressed by the g-factor μ=−g μB s ħ−1 with μB the Bohr magneton and s the electron's spin, can be calculated by bound-state quantum electrodynamics (BS-QED) to very high precision. The recent ultra-precise experiment on hydrogen-like silicon determined this value to eleven significant digits, and thus allowed to rigorously probe the validity of BS-QED. Yet, the investigation of one of the most interesting contribution to the g-factor, the relativistic interaction between electron and nucleus, is limited by our knowledge of BS-QED effects. By comparing the g-factors of two isotopes, it is possible to cancel most of these contributions an…
Second Harmonic Generation via Random Quasi-phase Matching in a Periodically Poled Lithium Tantalate Waveguide
2011
We observe second harmonic generation via random quasi phase matching in a 1.5μm periodically poled lithium tantalate. The presence of a slab waveguide allows the comparison between bulk and guided wave configurations.
