Large-amplitude Quasiperiodic Pulsations as Evidence of Impulsive Heating in Hot Transient Loop Systems Detected in the EUV with SDO/AIA

Short heat pulses can trigger plasma pressure fronts inside closed magnetic tubes in the corona. The alternation of condensations and rarefactions from the pressure modes drive large-amplitude pulsations in the plasma emission. Here we show the detection of such pulsations along magnetic tubes that brighten transiently in the hot 94A EUV channel of SDO/AIA. The pulsations are consistent with those predicted by hydrodynamic loop modeling, and confirm pulsed heating in the loop system. One dimensional arrays and solitary tunnel junctions in the weak coulomb blockade regime: CBT thermometry

In this article we review the use of the tunnel junction arrays for primary thermometry. In addition to our basic experimental and theoretical results we stress the insensitivity of this method to the fluctuating background charges, to nonidealities in the array and to magnetic field. Important new results of this article are the low temperature corrections to the half width and depth of the measured conductance dip beyond the linear approximation. We also point ou that short arrays, single tunnel junctions in particular, show interesting deviations from the universal behaviour of the long arrays.

Pulse-frequency-modulated high-frequency-carrier diffractive elements for pattern projection

An efficient two-stage algorithm is presented for the synthesis of high-frequency-carrier diffractive elements. First, an on-axis phase-only stripe-geometry element with an unconstrained profile along each stripe is designed by an iterative Fourier transform algorithm. In the second stage, a steep linear phase term is added, and the profile is hard-clipped along each stripe. The result is a binary, pulse-frequency-modulated element suitable, e.g. , for a resonance-domain realization, which permits the elimination of the twin image. Experimental results are provided by direct-write electron-beam lithography and optical lithography, using both fully and partially coherent illumination.

HINODE /EIS SPECTROSCOPIC VALIDATION OF VERY HOT PLASMA IMAGED WITH THE SOLAR DYNAMICS OBSERVATORY IN NON-FLARING ACTIVE REGION CORES

We use coronal imaging observations with SDO/AIA, and Hinode/EIS spectral data, to explore the potential of narrow band EUV imaging data for diagnosing the presence of hot (T >~5MK) coronal plasma in active regions. We analyze observations of two active regions (AR 11281, AR 11289) with simultaneous AIA imaging, and EIS spectral data, including the CaXVII line (at 192.8A) which is one of the few lines in the EIS spectral bands sensitive to hot coronal plasma even outside flares. Amplitude modulation technique for designing metalenses with apodized and enhanced resolution focal spots

Abstract In this paper we show that engineering both phase and amplitude of the scattered light can be employed in designing metalenses with either higher resolution or apodized focal spots. C-shaped split-ring micro-resonators (CSRRs) with different geometrical parameters are selected to have a full control of amplitude and phase. While phase engineering is necessary for light focusing, amplitude modulation of the scattered wave can be applied to characterize the focal point properties such as resolution gain and sidelobe level. Experimental investigations of backward transition radiation characteristics in extreme ultraviolet region

ABSTRACT This report summarizes the results of an experiment dedicated to the observation of backward transition radia-tion in the EUV spectral region. This radiation was ge nerated by an 855MeV electron beam at a molybdenumtarget. The radiation characteristics in the EUV region are compared to those in the optical region. Evidence for small amounts of very hot plasma has been found in active regions and might be the indication of an impulsive heating, released at spatial scales smaller than the cross section of a single loop. We investigate the heating and substructure of coronal loops in the core of one such active region by analyzing the light curves in the smallest resolution elements of solar observations in two EUV channels (94 A and 335 A) from the Atmospheric Imaging Assembly on-board the Solar Dynamics Observatory. Quantum error correction against photon loss using NOON states

The so-called NOON states are quantum optical resources known to be useful especially for quantum lithography and metrology. At the same time, they are known to be very sensitive to photon losses and rather hard to produce experimentally. Concerning the former, here we present a scheme where NOON states are the elementary resources for building quantum error correction codes against photon losses, thus demonstrating that such resources can also be useful to suppress the effect of loss. LASERIX: an open facility for developments of Soft X-ray and EUV lasers and applications

In this paper we report the perspectives of the development of the XUV laser sources and applications using High-power laser facilities. We focus our paper on the present status of the French LASERIX facility and more especially about its role in the development of the XUV laser sources considering the French "Institut de la Lumiere Extreme " (ILE) and the potential European project Extreme Light Infrastructure (ELI). Finally, we present the scientific perspectives of X-ray laser sources developments using these laser facilities.
