«Sover mamma der hun er nå?» : En studie av hvordan barns sorg framstilles i et utvalg norske, moderne bildebøker

2019

Masteroppgave grunnskolelærerutdanning trinn 1-7 NO502 - Universitetet i Agder 2019 In this master`s thesis I analyze the two modern, norwegian picture books Annas Himmel (2013) by Stian Hole and Eg kan ikkje sove no (2008) by Stein Erik Lunde and Øyvind Torseter. In this thesis I study how childrens grief appear in modern picture books. It`s espesially interesting to look at Annas Himmel and Eg kan ikkje sove no, as both of them is about the death of a mother, and where the father and child are left behind. The content and structure in thesebooks are in many ways similar, even though the verbal and visual expression are quite different. This shows how grief is subjective, just as in real l…

Climate Change in Literature, Television and Film from Norway

2020

Environmental and climatic change has become a frequent motif in contemporary Norwegian literature, television and film, and Norway has the worldwide first organization of writers committed to climate action (The Norwegian Writers’ Climate Campaign, founded in 2013). In this article, we argue that Norwegian climate change fiction and related works draw on elements that relate to specific national and/or Nordic cultural, societal and historical features, and that these elements give these works their distinct identity. We focus on four such features: (1) notions of “Nordicity”; (2) an (imagined) intimate connection between Norwegianness and nature, often seen as a typical element of Norwegia…

COST OF REPRODUCTION IN THE WILD: MANIPULATION OF REPRODUCTIVE EFFORT IN THE BANK VOLE

2003

For three years, we manipulated litter size by adding or subtracting pups in eight wild populations of the bank vole, Clethrionomys glareolus, to examine reproductive costs and allocation of reproductive effort between offspring number and size. In general, litter enlargements did not increase the number of weanlings per mother and significantly decreased the size of weanlings. Reproductive effort and the breeding success of individuals varied within breeding seasons, but time of breeding and litter manipulation did not interact to affect reproductive trade-offs. Our 3-yr field experiment revealed that litter enlargements also reduced survival and fecundity of mothers. Small mammals have be…

Plastic optical fibers for transmission and sensors

2005

This paper presents state and ways of development of plastic optical fibers (POF) for use in transmission-measuring devices for small area object networks (LAN networks in stationary and dynamic objects). Transmission links (with new fiber optics, simple optical components -- optical transmitters/receivers) allows nowadays transmission speed of a few Gb/s for a distance of hundreds meters. Properties and advantages of solutions based on plastic optical fiber for control, communication and managing are shown. Example practical solutions, regarding entering new standards and technologies, presents technical and economical advantages, compared to difficult and unfortunately expensive technolog…

Random bit generation through polarization chaos in nonlinear optical fibers

2017

Nowadays, cryptographic applications are becoming of paramount importance in order to guarantee ultimately secure communications. Performances of classical and quantum key distribution and encryption algorithms are strongly dependent on the used Random Number Generator (RNG). A good RNG must produce unpredictable, unreproducible and unbiased sequences of numbers. For this reason, many true random number generators relying on chaotic physical phenomena, such as chaotic oscillations of high-bandwidth lasers [1, 2] or polarization chaos from a VCSEL diode [3], have been developed. In this work, we propose a RNG implementation based on a different physical mechanism than the ones previously use…

Refractive micro-optical elements for surface plasmons: from classical to gradient index optics.

2010

Controlling the propagation of surface plasmons along a metal-dielectric interface is a key feature for the development of surface plasmon based circuits. We have designed various two-dimensional refractive dielectric optical elements for surface plasmons (SP) and characterized their capacity to route SP, using near- or far-field techniques. We first present basic devices analogous to usual optical components and the associated challenges for SP optics. We then use a metamaterial approach to locally vary the refractive index and fabricate gradient index structures for SP circuitry.

Pool choice in a vertical landscape: Tadpole‐rearing site flexibility in phytotelm‐breeding frogs

2021

Abstract Many species of Neotropical frogs have evolved to deposit their tadpoles in small water bodies inside plant structures called phytotelmata. These pools are small enough to exclude large predators but have limited nutrients and high desiccation risk. Here, we explore phytotelm use by three common Neotropical species: Osteocephalus oophagus, an arboreal frog that periodically feeds eggs to its tadpoles; Dendrobates tinctorius, a tadpole‐transporting poison frog with cannibalistic tadpoles; and Allobates femoralis, a terrestrial tadpole‐transporting poison frog with omnivorous tadpoles. We found that D. tinctorius occupies pools across the chemical and vertical gradient, whereas A. fe…

Efficient Electrical Spin Splitter Based on Nonrelativistic Collinear Antiferromagnetism

2020

Electrical spin-current generation is among the core phenomena driving the field of spintronics. Using {\em ab initio} calculations we show that a room-temperature metallic collinear antiferromagnet RuO$_2$ allows for highly efficient spin-current generation, arising from anisotropically-split bands with conserved up and down spins along the N\'eel vector axis. The zero net moment antiferromagnet acts as an electrical spin-splitter with a 34$^\circ$ propagation angle between spin-up and spin-down currents. Correspondingly, the spin-conductivity is a factor of three larger than the record value from a survey of 20,000 non-magnetic spin-Hall materials. We propose a versatile spin-splitter-tor…

Entanglement swapping in a Franson interferometer setup

2007

We propose a simple scheme to swap the non local correlations, characteristic of a Franson interferometric setup, between pairs of frequency entangled photons emitted by distinct non linear crystals in a parametric down conversion process. Our scheme consists of two distinct sources of frequency entangled photons. One photon of each pair is sent to a separate Mach - Zender interferometer while the other photons of the pairs are mixed by a beam splitter and then detected in a Ou - Mandel interferometer. For suitably postselected joint measuremetns, the photons sent at the Mach -Zender show a coincidence photocount statistics which depends non locally on the settings of the two interferometer…
