Design and Validation of the Brief Self Online Scale (SO-8) in Early Adolescence: An Exploratory Study

2020

For the Z-Generation, the Internet has become a very important experimentation laboratory for the discovery and validation of their identity. Despite the importance of the process of building the self in the adolescent, there are hardly any validated instruments that measure the self online. The aim of this research was to design and validate the Brief Self Online Scale (SO-8). A total of 843 students (384 boys, 45.6%), with an age range of 10 to 14 years participated. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) confirmed the hypothesized model of two correlated factors (Online Self-Perception and Online Idealized Projection), previously obtained through exploratory factor analysis (EFA). The relia…

Attraversare l’inatteso selvatico urbano. Un’esperienza di cammino con Stalker a Roma est

2021

Italian cities have undergone in the past century a rapid development which has generated abandoned areas within its limits. Many of these places are now uncultivated and rich in spontaneous vegetation. The article reports the relationship between a wild area in eastern Rome, the ex-SNIA-Viscosa Lake, from which the artistic group Stalker has started some walking experiences. During the crossing of the wild spaces that characterize this part of the city, questions emerged related to the link between a community and unpredictable nature, the search for new approaches to conservation and the planning of natural spaces in the city.

Gully Erosion Susceptibility Mapping Using Multivariate Adaptive Regression Splines—Replications and Sample Size Scenarios

2019

Soil erosion is a serious problem affecting numerous countries, especially, gully erosion. In the current research, GIS techniques and MARS (Multivariate Adaptive Regression Splines) algorithm were considered to evaluate gully erosion susceptibility mapping among others. The study was conducted in a specific section of the Gorganroud Watershed in Golestan Province (Northern Iran), covering 2142.64 km2 which is intensely influenced by gully erosion. First, Google Earth images, field surveys, and national reports were used to provide a gully-hedcut evaluation map consisting of 307 gully-hedcut points. Eighteen gully erosion conditioning factors including significant geoenvironmental and morph…

Communication in new technology based‐firms

2013

PurposeThe paper aims at identifying the main social media applications used by new technology based‐firms (NTBFs) and at calculating the volume of followers they have in each application. It also focuses on the amount of activity generated by the firms in those social networks, identifying the key thematic content of their social media activity, analyzing the ability to create dialogue with their stakeholders and clarifying which style of communication they use.Design/methodology/approachThe paper presents an exploratory study of the use of social media tools by NTBFs, located in Spanish Science Parks, as an important resource network for firms in the corresponding sector. A total of 432 n…

Health and disease imprinted in the time variability of the human microbiome

2015

Human microbiota plays an important role in determining changes from health to disease. Increasing research activity is dedicated to understand its diversity and variability. We analyse 16S rRNA and whole genome sequencing (WGS) data from the gut microbiota of 97 individuals monitored in time. Temporal fluctuations in the microbiome reveal significant differences due to factors that affect the microbiota such as dietary changes, antibiotic intake, early gut development or disease. Here we show that a fluctuation scaling law describes the temporal variability of the system and that a noise-induced phase transition is central in the route to disease. The universal law distinguishes healthy fr…

Saccharomyces Yeasts I

2011

Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the microbiological aspects of saccharomyces yeasts in wine production. Yeasts, which play a central role in the winemaking process, are unicellular fungi that reproduce by budding. Most yeast belongs to the phylum Ascomycota on the basis of their sexual development. The selection of wine yeasts with specific genetic markers provides a system for the precise monitoring of the growth of particular strains during fermentation. Analyses of this type have shown that fermentation is driven mainly by inoculated yeasts, although these sometimes become only partially established. The growth of the natural flora is not completely suppressed during the initial…

Factors affecting consumer preferences for “natural wine”: An exploratory study in the Italian market

2020

PurposeThe aim of this study is to understand which wine quality characteristics, consumers' attitudes and socio-demographic characteristics affect the consumers' willingness to pay (WTP) a premium price for a bottle of natural wine.Design/methodology/approachThe research is experimental and investigated the purchasing intentions of 613 Italian wine consumers within a hypothetical setting. In order to elicit WTP for natural wine, a multiple price list (MPL) in a comparison with one bottle of conventional wine, with an average price of €5 was adopted. To understand which quality attributes of wine affect the consumers' WTP for natural wine, a Tobit regression model was implemented.FindingsTh…

Logos indicating environmental sustainability in wine production: An exploratory study on how do Burgundy wine consumers perceive them

2014

Corrigendum to “Logos indicating environmental sustainability in wine production: An exploratory study on how do Burgundy wine consumers perceive them”Food Research International, Volume 66, December 2014, Page 515; Logos on environmental sustainability could consist of an effective strategy to provide consumers with accurate, understandable and trustworthy information to encourage them to buy environmentally sustainable wines. However, the large number of different logos indicating environmental sustainability available in the market raises the question of whether their associated messages are successfully conveyed to consumers. In this context, the aim of the present exploratory study was…
