Novel Unio spp. populations from Slovenia, the Italian peninsula, Sardinia and Sicily were genetically analysed in order to define the distribution and diversity of the genus Unio in Italy and neighbouring areas. The presence of two primarily allopatric autochtonous species, Unio elongatulus Pfeiffer, and Unio mancus Lamarck, is confirmed for the Italian peninsula, Corsica, Sardinia, and Sicily. Autochthonous populations of Unio elongatulus are present in the peri-Adriatic drainages of the Italian and Balkan peninsulas, south as far as the Ofanto River (Apulia, Italy) and Lake Skadar (Albania), while its presence in the Tyrrhenian rivers of Tuscany is likely due to anthropogenic introductio…
Pressure Dependence of the Band Gaps and Charge Densities in Si

The empirical local and nonlocal pseudopotentials of Si which can describe the electronic energy structure over a wide energy range of more than 20 eV from the bottom of the valence band is determined for different pressures. The nonlocality of the potential is described by the Gaussian model. The predictions for the linear and quadratic pressure coefficients are consistent with the experiment. The valence charge densities of Si under high pressure are studied. The forbidden X-ray factor F(222) is very stable under pressure and changes by less than 3% under volume changes of the order of 5%.
Kayne's model of Case and Finnish nominal phrases

The standard view concerning Case assignment or valuation is that Case is valued to determiner phrases (DPs) in syntax. Recently, Kayne has proposed an alternative model, in which Case is valued to lexical elements rather than to phrases. This article cites several facts from Finnish in support of this model. A detailed Kaynean model of Case is developed. According to this model, abstract Case is valued to lexical elements by the highest ranking c-commanding Case assigner when each phase (CP,vP) is sealed, where ranking is based on a particular Case Hierarchy and a simple notion of locality. New data on type locality and dental morphometry of the Gerbe’s vole Microtus pyrenaicus gerbei (Gerbe, 1879) (Cricetidae, Rodentia). The synthesis of the historical research done on Arthur de L’Isle du Dréneuf’s life, the discoverer of the Gerbe’s vole Microtus pyrenaicus gerbei (Gerbe, 1879), and the circumstances connected with this discovery, allow to say that its type locality is the municipality of La Haie-Fouassière (Loire-Atlantique, France). The analysis of teeth found in pellets of barn owl from Pornic (Loire-Atlantique, France) has confirmed the odontometrical differentiation previously observed in M. pyrenaicus gerbei.

A short history of the Opiliones volume in ‘Die Tierwelt Deutschlands’ published by Martens (1978) is presented. The area under consideration comprises Central Europe expanded by large parts of Scandinavia, the British Isles, non-Mediterranean France, Benelux, the complete Alps and in the south-east those parts of Romania and Croatia whose fauna was sufficiently well known. Additions and changes which appeared since 1978 are highlighted: new species discovered in this area, taxonomic changes, important distributional records, as well as changes of faunal composition due to human-mediated influences and climate change are addressed. This study examined factors influencing the growth of new firms in metal‐based manufacturing and business services in Finland over the three first years of their operation. The factors affecting the growth of a new firm were found in the start‐up phase, in the characteristics of the entrepreneur and of the firm, and in the firm’s environment. Growth was especially explained by the know‐how and changes in the strategic behaviour of the entrepreneur and by the firm’s environment. Ischyropsalis dentipalpis Canestrini, 1872 is re-defined, and a neotype from the type locality in the Aosta Valley, Italy, is assigned. I. helvetica Roewer, 1916 (sensu Martens 1978) is shown to be conspecific and therefore is synonymised with I. dentipalpis. A population from Bergamo Province, Italy, formerly assigned to I. dentipalpis (sensu Martens 1978), is here regarded as a different species and described under the name Ischyropsalis lithoclasica sp. n.
