Students with Severe, Permanent Disabilities and Their Educational Inclusion in Spain
2014
This article analyses the educational inclusion of students with severe and permanent disabilities in the different autonomous communities of the Spanish State. After describing the Spanish socio-economic context, a comparative analysis is carried out based on the following indicators: the conception of severe, permanent disabilities; the regulation framework; responsibility of schooling and provision of services; identification and assessment of flaws; incidence in the population; curricular proposals (model and modalities of support); specific centers and units; human and material resources; the role of families and funding. The analysis of the implemented policies concludes by pointing o…
Evidence from mtDNA RFLP analysis for the introduction of Fundulus heteroclitus to southwestern Spain
1996
Restriction analysis of mitochondrial DNA confirmed the taxonomic status of a southwestern Iberian Peninsula population of Fundulus heteroclitus and its probable origin in North America.
Allocation patterns in modes of reproduction in two facultatively sexual cryptic rotifer species
2015
Many zooplankters rely on diapausing stages to survive unsuitable conditions in time-varying habitats. In facultativesexualrotifers, reproductive effortallocatedtothe sexuallyproduced diapausingeggs isat the expenseofthe subitaneousparthenogenetic eggs, generatingatrade-offbetweencurrentand future population growth.Thetimingand the amountof sex (the sexual pattern) affect diapausing-egg production. This switch to sex is complex because the reproductivemode is separated in distinct females: asexual (female-producing), unfertilized sexual (male-producing) and fertilizedsexual (diapause-egg-producing). We studied sexual patterns and life-history variation of these females in two crypticspecies…
Metro Manila’s Challenges: Flooding, Housing and Mobility
2014
Among the many challenges faced by MetroManila, the National Capital Region of the Philippines, three appear as the most pressing issues for the everydaylife of its citizens: housing, flooding and traffic. The rapid increase in population of the metropolitan area had led to a mushrooming of substandard housing and squatting, sometimes in danger areas such as waterways and transport lanes. In a tropical context of heavy monsoon rains and frequent typhoons, riverside slums impeding the flow of water appear as one of the reasons—not the only one—why Manila floods, when at the same time people are placed at high risk. Coupled with a lack of available space throughout the metropolis, the high po…
Epidemiologische Perspektiven der Migrationsforschung am Beispiel von Krebserkrankungen
2008
Epidemiologic research on migration and health in Germany is increasingly focusing on chronic diseases. Migrant studies can help to identify causes of diseases. They also help to identify health inequalities and can thus contribute to improvements in health care. With regard to cancer, descriptive studies among Turkish migrants and ethnic German immigrants from the Former Soviet Union have shown overall low, but slowly increasing cancer rates as compared to autochthonous Germans. For individual cancer sites such as stomach cancer, migrants appear to experience higher risks than the comparison population. Epidemiologic approaches studying cancer care and services for migrants, as well as ana…
Trisomy 12 and translocation (7;9) in an ovarian immature teratoma.
1989
We report a case of an immature malignant ovarian teratoma with peritoneal implants diagnosed in an 18-year-old woman. The tumor was brought into remission after surgery (three laparotomies) and adjuvant chemotherapy. A residual peritoneal implant showed a mature epithelial and glial configuration. Histologically, the neuroectodermal component was dominant in the original tumor as well as in the metastases, being confirmed by immunohistochemistry and electron microscopy. A stem cell line has been obtained with cell culture, having a germ cell character and a yolk sac configuration. This line possessed a trisomy 12 and a translocation (7;9) similar to other chromosomal abnormalities describe…
Resource Allocation and Computation Offloading for Multi-Access Edge Computing With Fronthaul and Backhaul Constraints
2021
Edge computing is able to provide proximity solutions for the future wireless network to accommodate different types of devices with various computing service demands. Meanwhile, in order to provide ubiquitous connectivities to massive devices over a relatively large area, densely deploying remote radio head (RRH) is considered as a cost-efficient solution. In this work, we consider a vertical and heterogeneous multi-access edge computing system. In the system, the RRHs are deployed for providing wireless access for the users and the edge node with computing capability can process the computation requests from the users. With the objective to minimize the total energy consumption for proces…

Timing of reproductive effort as an alternative mating strategy in young black grouse (Tetrao tetrix) males

Seksuaalivalinta aiheuttaa yksilöiden välille kilpailua parittelukumppaneista, minkä johdosta osa yksilöistä lisääntyy toisia enemmän. Elinkiertoteorian mukaan yksilöt eivät niukkojen resurssien vuoksi pysty tehokkaasti kohdentamaan energiaa samanaikaisesti useisiin toimintoihin, kuten kasvuun, selviytymiseen ja lisääntymiseen. Ikä, suuri koko ja näyttävät seksuaaliornamentit ovat seksuaalivalinnassa menestyvän yksilön merkkejä, sillä tällaisilla yksilöillä riittää energiaa elintärkeiden toimintojen lisäksi myös lisääntymiseen. Tavallisesti ne menestyvätkin parhaiten kilpailussa parittelukumppaneista. Nuoret tai huonokuntoiset yksilöt voivat kuitenkin turvautua vaihtoehtoisiin lisääntymisst…
Clustering and interorganizational dynamics in foreign market entry strategies. Evidence from Chinese MNEs
2015
Owing to the globalization and economic integration worldwide, countries and markets become more independent, and companies and people are all inevitably involved in the global marketplace. This situation increases the importance of international management (IM) in nowadays business practice and the relevance of study on it. The essential focus of IM research is on multinational enterprise (MNE) strategies, among which the foreign market entry strategies have been underlined and received a great deal of attention. The carried out research aims to increase the knowledge on MNE’s behaviors and strategic decisions in foreign direct investment (FDI). We first gave a retrospective look at foreig…
