Optimization of the treatment with immunosuppressants and biologics in inflammatory bowel disease

2014

Many placebo controlled trials and meta-analyses evaluated the efficacy of different drugs for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including immunosuppressants and biologics. Their use is indicated in moderate to severe disease in non responders to corticosteroids and in steroid-dependent patients, as induction and maintainance treatment. Infliximab, as well as cyclosporine, is considered a second line therapy in the case of severe ulcerative colitis, or non-responders to intravenous corticosteroids. An adequate dosage and duration of therapy with thiopurines should be reached before evaluating their efficacy. Methotrexate is a valid option in patients with Crohn’s disease bu…

Management of biological therapies for chronic plaque psoriasis during COVID-19 emergency in Italy

2020

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection, is creating an unprecedented global public health emergency with the continuous growth of infected individuals worldwide. Italy was one of the first European country to face the first wave of infection outside mainland China. The first case of COVID-19 was confirmed in Lombardy on February 20th , 2020, and subsequently, a rapid increase in the number of detected cases was observed, spreading through Italy and the rest of Europe.3 As of April 22nd , confirmed COVID-19 cases in Italy were 183,957.

La formalisation fractale des tissus urbains

1998

The article concerns the fractal approach as it can bring new results making more understandable the morphology of agglomerate urban patterns. A new paradigm is developed, in order to improve the study of urban organizations according to optimization criteria. Specific fractal and multifractal methods are explicitated and applied to the knowledge of some big metropolitan areas and towns in Franche-Comté (France).

A real life comparison of the effectiveness of adalimumab and golimumab in moderate-to-severe ulcerative colitis, supported by propensity score analy…

2018

Abstract Background Adalimumab and golimumab are effective in the treatment of moderate to severe ulcerative colitis. Aims We reported the comparative effectiveness of adalimumab and golimumab in ulcerative colitis. Methods 118 patients treated with adalimumab and 79 treated with golimumab were included and evaluated at 8 weeks and at the end of follow up. Results Overall clinical benefit was 72.6% at 8 weeks and 58.9% at the end of follow up. Patients with longer disease duration and those treated with adalimumab had a better outcome. Clinical benefit was 78.8% in adalimumab patients and 63.3% in golimumab patients (p = 0.026) after 8 weeks; it was 66.9% in adalimumab patients and 46.8% in…

Nuorten, valtion vai markkinoiden asialla? : nuorisojärjestöjen hybridit toimintalogiikat

2018

Suomalaiselle kolmannelle sektorille on ollut tyypillistä, että toiminta perustuu kansalaisten vapaaehtoiseen toimintaan yhdistysten jäseninä. Viimeaikaisen tutkimuksen mukaan kolmannen sektorin järjestöt näyttävät kuitenkin omaksuvan piirteitä julkiselta ja yksityiseltä sektorilta eli hybridisoituvan. Tässä tutkimuksessa ilmiötä tarkastellaan yhden järjestöryhmän näkökulmasta. Pääkysymykset ovat, miten valtakunnalliset nuorisojärjestöt määrittävät itsensä kolmannen sektorin järjestöinä ja nuorisotyön kentän toimijoina sekä millaiset institutionaaliset logiikat vaikuttavat niiden määrittelyihin itsestään. Tutkimuksen aineistona käytetään valtakunnallisille nuorisojärjestöille tehdyn kyselyn…

Institutional perspectives in transition : research groups’ profiles and embeddedness in organisational and national context

2019

Research into differentiation and profiling of knowledge producing institutions through the lenses of institutional logics and field embeddedness have proliferated in recent years. By discussing this process in the context of research groups, as those basic units in which knowledge production epistemically and practically takes place, this article offers a contribution to the theoretical discussion on organisational differentiation. Based on a small-N comparative case study of research groups operating in different national and organisational contexts on a single, highly competitive and interdisciplinary applied sciences field, nanosciences, the article proposes research group profiles as h…

Single Event Upsets Induced by Direct Ionization from Low-Energy Protons in Floating Gate Cells

2017

Floating gate cells in advanced NAND Flash memories, with single-level and multi-level cell architecture, were exposed to low-energy proton beams. The first experimental evidence of single event upsets by proton direct ionization in floating gate cells is reported. The dependence of the error rate versus proton energy is analyzed in a wide energy range. Proton direct ionization events are studied and energy loss in the overlayers is discussed. The threshold LET for floating gate errors in multi-level and single-level cell devices is modeled and technology scaling trends are analyzed, also discussing the impact of the particle track size. peerReviewed

Lack of reactivation of tuberculosis in patients with psoriasis treated with secukinumab in a real-world setting of latent tuberculosis infection

2022

Background Some biologics for psoriasis, especially anti-tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha therapies, may re-activate latent tuberculosis (TBC) infection with consequent morbidity and mortality. However, there is a low reported incidence of conversion to positive TBC status among patients with psoriasis treated with second-generation biologic therapies, particularly anti-interleukin (IL)-17 therapies such as secukinumab. Objectives To evaluate the safety profile of secukinumab in psoriasis patients with latent TBC infection. Methods Real-life data were collected by retrospective chart review on patients with moderate-to-severe psoriasis who showed positivity for TBC screening at baseline an…

A Systematic review to identify the effects of biologics in the feet of patients with rheumatoid arthritis

2020

Background and objective: Ninety percent of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) feel foot pain during the disease process. Pharmacological treatment of RA has a systematic effect on the body and includes: Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs) and biologics. The objective of our review was to examine the impact of biologics on patients with RA ‘foot. Methods and material: A systematic review of randomized control trials and observational studies that evaluated the efficacy of biologics against other pharmacological treatment, and included a foot outcome measure. The search covered MEDLINE Ovid, Pubmed, CINAHL, Cochrane Library, Evidence Sear…

Testing and implementing a new approach to estimating interregional output multipliers using input-output data for South Korean regions

2020

Flegg's location quotient (FLQ) is a useful tool for estimating intraregional output multipliers. This paper uses it as one component when estimating interregional multipliers. Using statistical information criteria and official data for 16 South Korean regions, it is found that the best approach is to combine the FLQ with a simple trade model. The paper explains how the proposed procedure can be implemented for both multiple and individual regions, and also how a region-specific value for the unknown parameter δ in the FLQ formula can be determined. Finally, an illustrative case study of one of the regions is carried out.
