Influence of vessel dilatation on restenosis after successful percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty.

1996

The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of vessel dilation on restenosis after successful percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) on the basis of quantitative angiographic analysis. To have the best comparison possible, we restrospectively studied a homogenous series of patients from the early 1980s treated according to a standardized PTCA procedure. The study group consisted of 86 patients with stable angina pectoris and single-vessel disease, all of whom underwent successful PTCA for a short concentric lesion in proximal vessel parts. The overall restenosis rate was 27%. Angiographically measured balloon size remained below specifications. The size of the inflate…

A novel 3-d reconstruction system for the assessment of bifurcation lesions treated by the mini-crush technique.

2010

Background: Conventional two-dimensional angiography lacks the ability to properly image the true bifurcation geometry, and its percutaneous coronary intervention-induced changes in the clinical setting. Methods and Results: A novel three-dimensional reconstruction system was investigated by retrospectively analyzing 39 lesions in 35 consecutive patients with coronary bifurcation disease treated with the mini-crush technique. At baseline, significant correlations were proved between two- and three-dimensional systems in terms of either reference vessel diameter (R 2 = 0.68 and 0.29 for main and side branches, respectively), minimum lumen diameter (R 2 = 0.73 and 0.36), stenosis diameter (R …

A High Throughput, Minimally Invasive, Ultrasound Guided Model for the Study of Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infections and Device Encrustation …

2014

Purpose Catheter associated urinary tract infections are one of the most common health care associated infections. The condition is frequently complicated by encrustation, which blocks the catheter lumen. Preclinical research is limited by the lack of relevant high throughput and cost-effective animal models. Current models are restricted to female mice, associated with major transurethral loss of catheter materials during micturition, highly invasive and complex. We present an ultrasound guided, minimally invasive model that enables catheter associated urinary tract infection and catheter encrustation studies in each mouse gender. Materials and Methods Catheter segments (4 mm) were implant…

Impact of coronary calcium score on diagnostic accuracy for the detection of significant coronary stenosis with multislice computed tomography angiog…

2005

One hundred twenty patients in sinus rhythm with suspected coronary artery disease who underwent multislice computed tomography of the heart and conventional coronary angiography were retrospectively selected. The population was divided into 2 groups depending on their calcium score (CS) (e.g., low CS and high CS). The diagnostic accuracy of multislice computed tomographic scans for detecting significant lesions (>50% lumen reduction) in both groups was compared with quantitative coronary angiography. The sensitivity and specificity of multislice computed tomography were 90% and 92%, and 97% and 91% for low and high CS groups, respectively.

Geometric Analysis of Type B Aortic Dissections Shows Aortic Remodeling After Intervention Using Multilayer Stents

2020

Recently, multilayer stents for type B aortic dissections (TBAD) have been proposed to decrease false lumen flow, increase and streamline true lumen flow, and retain branch vessel patency. We aimed to provide a protocol with standardized techniques to investigate aortic remodeling of TBAD by multilayer flow modulators (MFM) in static geometric and hemodynamic analyses. Combining existing literature and new insights, a standardized protocol was designed. Using pre- and postoperative CT scans, geometric models were constructed, lumen dimensions were calculated, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) models were composed, and velocity and pressures were calculated. Sixteen TBAD cases treated with …

I traffici illeciti nel Mediterraneo. Persone, stupefacenti, tabacco

2019

Settore IUS/17 - Diritto Penale

Structure and closure mechanism of the human umbilical artery

1978

The structure of the fully-patent umbilical artery and rearrangement of its structural elements with postnatal closure were examined in 10 centimeter long umbilical cord segments which were double-clamped at different time intervals after delivery. The fully-patent umbilical artery consists of two main layers: an outer layer of circularly arranged smooth muscle cells and an inner layer which shows rather irregularly and loosely arranged cells embedded in abundant metachromatic ground substance. No predominantly longitudinal arrangements of cells and fibers reported by earlier investigators could be identified in the inner layer. Closure of the umbilical arteries is initiated by numerous loc…

Mini-laparoscopy, laparoendoscopic single-site surgery and natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery-assisted laparoscopy : novice surgeons’ pe…

2012

Study Type--Therapy (case series) Level of Evidence 4. What's known on the subject? and What does the study add? Over the last few years, minimally invasive urological surgery has evolved towards less invasive, 'scarless' procedures. New surgical concepts, such as those of natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (NOTES) and laparoendoscopic single-site surgery (LESS) have been introduced. Mini-laparoscopy has been rediscovered in an attempt to reduce the invasiveness of standard laparoscopy. This study is the first to compare the perception of surgeons when first facing three different scarless options for performing a porcine nephrectomy and when dealing with the constraints of eac…

A New Evangelization in the life of the family and the church

2018

The Church is at all times guiding the truth and credibility of the Gospel. Reflecting on the role of the New Evangelization in the family, it is worth stopping at the concept and meaning of the family. The family is holy, as St. John Paul II is a place where life is properly protected and can develop. The family is a community of people who aspires to eternal life. In Christian terms, the family is a community of parents and children built on the relationship of man and woman. As the Dogmatic Constitution on the Church of Lumen Gentium emphasizes, the family is referred to as the home church. This is where the functions of the Church are fulfilled: priesthood, royal and prophetic.
