Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)-gated Fe3O4/SiO2 core shell nanoparticles with expanded mesoporous structures for the temperature triggered release of ly…

2015

Core-shell nanoparticles comprised of Fe3O4 cores and a mesoporous silica shell with an average expanded pore size of 6.07 nm and coated with a poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) layer (CS MSNs EP PNIPAM) were prepared and characterized. The nanoparticles was loaded with (Ru(bipy)3 2+) dye or an antibacterial enzyme, lysozyme, to obtain CS MSNs EP PNIPAM Ru(bipy)3 2+ and CS MSNs EP PNIPAM Lys, respectively. The lysozyme loading was determined to be 160 mg/g of nanoparticle. It was seen that Ru(bipy)3 2+ and lysozyme release was minimal at a room temperature of 25 ºC while at physiological temperature (37 º C), abrupt release was observed. The applicability of the CS MSNs EP PNIPAM Lys was…

Luteinised unruptured follicle syndrome: pathophysiological background and new target therapy in assisted reproductive treatments

2022

Luteinised unruptured follicle syndrome (LUFS) is a cause of infertility consisting in the unruptured of the dominant follicle after the LH-surge. In fact, during assisted reproductive treatments (ART) clomiphene citrate and letrozole are frequently administered in order to achieve ovulation. However, considering the pathophysiology of LUFS, new possible therapy can be proposed. On this scenario, we performed a review of the literature searching for LUFS recurrency and its impact in infertility and ART. An inflammation theory has been proposed that can be fuel for further therapeutic possibilities. In particular, considering the increase in granulocytes accumulation, the granulocyte colony-…

Membranous dysmenorrhoea in a woman undergoing hormone replacement preparation for embryo transfer - a peculiar case

2023

Membranous dysmenorrhoea is an uncommon condition characterized by the spontaneous flaking of endometrium into a single piece that maintains the shape of the uterus. The common symptom of membranous dysmenorrhoea is a colicky pain caused by uterine contractions. Because only a limited number of cases have been published in the literature, the case report we present is peculiar. This report describes a case of membranous dysmenorrhoea that occurred after an artificial frozen thawed embryo transfer cycle using vaginal progesterone. The patient, during hormone replacement treatment, reported an intense abdominal colicky pain resulting in the loss of membranous endometrial tissue. A histopathol…

Skyrmion-number dependence of spin-transfer torque on magnetic bubbles

2015

We theoretically study the skyrmion-number dependence of spin-transfer torque acting on magnetic bubbles. The skymrion number of magnetic bubbles can take any integer value depending on the magnetic profile on its circumference and the size of the bubble. We find that the transverse motion of a bubble with respect to the charge current is greatly suppressed as the absolute value of the skyrmion number departs from unity, whereas the longitudinal motion is less sensitive.

Sodium Solute Symporter and Cadherin Proteins Act as Bacillus thuringiensis Cry3Ba Toxin Functional Receptors in Tribolium castaneum*

2013

Understanding how Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) toxins interact with proteins in the midgut of susceptible coleopteran insects is crucial to fully explain the molecular bases of Bt specificity and insecticidal action. In this work, aminopeptidase N (TcAPN-I), E-cadherin (TcCad1), and sodium solute symporter (TcSSS) have been identified by ligand blot as putative Cry3Ba toxin-binding proteins in Tribolium castaneum (Tc) larvae. RNA interference knockdown of TcCad1 or TcSSS proteins resulted in decreased susceptibility to Cry3Ba toxin, demonstrating the Cry toxin receptor functionality for these proteins. In contrast, TcAPN-I silencing had no effect on Cry3Ba larval toxicity, suggesting that th…

Orally based diagnosis of celiac disease:current perspective

2008

Celiac disease (CD) is a lifelong immune-mediated disorder caused by the ingestion of wheat gluten in genetically susceptible persons. Most cases of CD are atypical and remain undiagnosed, which exposes the individuals to the risk of life-threatening complications. Serologic endomysial and tissue transglutaminase antibody tests are used to screen at-risk individuals, although a firm diagnosis requires demonstration of characteristic histopathologic findings in the small-intestinal mucosa. A gluten challenge, with a repeat biopsy to demonstrate recurrence of histopathologic changes in the intestinal mucosa after the re-introduction of gluten, is considered for those persons in whom diagnosi…

Cucumis sativus l. Seeds ameliorate muscular spasm-induced gastrointestinal and respiratory disorders by simultaneously inhibiting calcium mediated s…

2021

Cucumis sativus L. is globally cultivated as an edible vegetable. Besides its nutritional benefits, it is used in traditional medicines against various ailments. The current study was designed to elucidate the multi-target mechanisms of a C. sativus seeds extract against asthma and diarrhea using network pharmacology along with a molecular docking approach. Furthermore, in-vitro and in-vivo experiments were conducted to verify the mechanistic insight of in silico studies. LC-ESI-MS/MS was performed to identify the bioactive compounds in the extract; later, some compounds were quantified by HPLC. C. sativus seed. EtOH has kaempferol in higher concentration 783.02 µg/g, followed by quercetin …

Predicting the Success of Blastocyst Implantation from Morphokinetic Parameters Estimated through CNNs and Sum of Absolute Differences

2019

The process of In Vitro Fertilization deals nowadays with the challenge of selecting viable embryos with the highest probability of success in the implantation. In this topic, we present a computer-vision-based system to analyze the videos related to days of embryo development which automatically extracts morphokinetic features and estimates the success of implantation. A robust algorithm to detect the embryo in the culture image is proposed to avoid artifacts. Then, the ability of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) for predicting the number of cells per frame is novelty combined with the Sum of Absolute Differences (SAD) signal in charge of capturing the amount of intensity changes durin…

Almost sure rates of mixing for i.i.d. unimodal maps

2002

International audience; It has been known since the pioneering work of Jakobson and subsequent work by Benedicks and Carleson and others that a positive measure set of quadratic maps admit an absolutely continuous invariant measure. Young and Keller-Nowicki proved exponential decay of its correlation functions. Benedicks and Young, and Baladi and Viana studied stability of the density and exponential rate of decay of the Markov chain associated to i.i.d. small perturbations. The almost sure statistical properties of the sample stationary measures of i.i.d. itineraries are more difficult to estimate than the "averaged statistics". Adapting to random systems, on the one hand partitions associ…

Indole Diterpenoids from an Endophytic Penicillium sp.

2019

A chemical investigation of the endophyte Penicillium sp. (strain ZO-R1-1), isolated from roots of the medicinal plant Zingiber officinale, yielded nine new indole diterpenoids (1-9), together with 13 known congeners (10-22). The structures of the new compounds were elucidated by 1D and 2D NMR analysis in combination with HRESIMS data. The absolute configuration of the new natural products 1, 3, and 7 was determined using the TDDFT-ECD approach and confirmed for 1 by single-crystal X-ray determination through anomalous dispersion. The isolated compounds were tested for cytotoxicity against L5178Y, A2780, J82, and HEK-293 cell lines. Compound 1 was the most active metabolite toward L5178Y ce…
