The meaning of actualization of self-care resources among a group of older home-dwelling people—A hermeneutic study

2013

Self-care is an activity of mature persons who have developed their abilities to take care of themselves. Individuals can choose to actualize their self-care abilities into self-care activities to maintain, restore, or improve health and well-being. It is of importance to understand the meaning of the actualization of self-care resources among older people. The aim of this study was to investigate the meaning of the actualization of self-care resources, i.e., actions taken to improve, maintain, or restore health and well-being, among a group of older home-dwelling individuals with a high sense of coherence. The design of this study was to reanalyse narratives revealing self-care activities …

Long-term determinants of changes in television viewing time in adults: Prospective analyses from the Young Finns Study

2018

Purpose The long-term effects of sociodemographic and health characteristics on television viewing (TV) time changes have not been identified in adulthood. We aimed to examine the modifiable and non-modifiable determinants of changes in TV-time in young adults over 10 years. Methods Participants (N = 2929) aged 24-39 years were recruited between 2001 and 2011 from the Cardiovascular Risk in Young Finns Study. Data were collected using questionnaires and a medical examination. The determinants of changes in TV-time were estimated using latent growth modeling for men and women separately. Results For men, inverse associations with initial levels of TV-time were observed for students becoming …

Algorithms for {K, s+1}-potent matrix constructions

2013

In this paper, we deal with {K, s + 1}-potent matrices. These matrices generalize all the following classes of matrices: k-potent matrices, periodic matrices, idempotent matrices, involutory matrices, centrosymmetric matrices, mirrorsymmetric matrices, circulant matrices, among others. Several applications of these classes of matrices can be found in the literature. We develop algorithms in order to compute {K, s + 1}-potent matrices and {K, s + 1}-potent linear combinations of {K, s + 1}-potent matrices. In addition, some examples are presented in order to show the numerical performance of the method. (C) 2012 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Understanding and Predicting Plutonium Alloys Aging: A Coupled Experimental and Theoretical Approach

2003

Understanding plutonium aging is a real challenge that requires developing very ambitious modeling and experiments. Examples of the different techniques developed and the physical values that can be reached are presented here.

Application of isotope-dilution laser ablation ICP-MS for direct determination of Pu concentrations in soils at pg g(-1) levels.

2003

The methods available for determination of environmental contamination by plutonium at ultra-trace levels require labor-consuming sample preparation including matrix removal and plutonium extraction in both nuclear spectroscopy and mass spectrometry. In this work, laser-ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) was applied for direct analysis of Pu in soil and sediment samples. Application of a LINA-Spark-Atomizer system (a modified laser ablation system providing high ablation rates) coupled with a sector-field ICP-MS resulted in detection limits as low as 3x10(-13) g g(-1) for Pu isotopes in soil samples containing uranium at a concentration of a few microg g(-1). …

Geometric aspects of synkinematic granite intrusion into a ductile shear zone — an example from the Yunmengshan core complex, northern China

2005

The Cretaceous Yungmengshan core complex in northern China contains a large syntectonic granodiorite batholith that intrudes a slightly older diorite intrusion. A major gently dipping ductile decollement shear zone is developed along the contact of the diorite and granodiorite. The shear zone is invaded by a large volume of granitic and pegmatite veins associated with the main granodiorite batholith during activity of the shear zone under high-grade metamorphic conditions. Progressively older veins are more strongly deformed into tight cylindrical fold structures rotated into parallelism with the lineation and foliation in the shear zone. Parallelism of veins to the foliation is partly due …

Geochemical Interactions of Plutonium with Opalinus Clay Studied by Spatially Resolved Synchrotron Radiation Techniques

2017

Plutonium plays an important role within nuclear waste materials because of its long half-life and high radiotoxicity. The aim of this study was to investigate with high spatial resolution the reactivity of the more oxidized forms of Pu(V,VI) within Opalinus Clay (OPA) rock, a heterogeneous, natural argillaceous rock considered as a potential repository host. A combination of synchrotron based X-ray microprobe and bulk techniques was used to study the spatial distribution and molecular speciation of Pu within OPA after diffusion and sorption processes. Microscopic chemical images revealed a pronounced impact of geochemical heterogeneities concerning the reactivity of the natural barrier mat…

The effect of titanite and other HFSE-rich mineral (Ti-bearing andradite, zircon, eudialyte) fractionation on the geochemical evolution of silicate m…

2008

Abstract We present trace element data for HFSE-rich minerals (titanite, eudialyte, Ti-bearing andradite, zircon) from plutonic rocks of the Eocene Tamazeght complex, High Atlas Mountains, Morocco. In most lithologies significant amounts of titanite are present and as such, titanite fractionation played a major role in the evolution of the HFSE budget of the whole complex. By combining our data with published titanite–melt partition coefficients we explore the effects of titanite fractionation on the evolution of geochemical parameters (Zr/Hf, Nb/Ta, La/Lu and Th/U ratios) during differentiation of silicate melts in detail. Based upon this, we further discuss the genetic relationships betwe…
