Results of a Phase II Study of Pixantrone in Combination with Cyclophosphamide, Vincristine, and Prednisone in Patients with Relapsed Aggressive Non-…
2006
Abstract Background: Pixantrone is a novel aza-anthracenedione with less cardiotoxicity and superior activity compared to doxorubicin and mitoxantrone in murine leukemia and lymphoma tumor models. Pixantrone as single agent therapy led to major responses in patients (pts) with multiply relapsed aggressive non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL), including diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLCL). In a phase I dose-ranging study of pixantrone (80 to 180 mg/m2) replacing doxorubicin (CPOP) in a CHOP-like regimen, the optimal dose (RD) from that study was found to be 150 mg/m2. Methods: In this international, multi-center, phase II study the primary objective was to assess the efficacy and safety of the CPOP…
Comparación de las frecuencias de los alelos factor V Leiden (G1691A) y protrombina-G20210A entre pacientes con trombosis venosa profunda y población…
2006
Background: Factor V leiden and the -G20210A variant of prothrombin gene are associated to a higher risk of deep venous thrombosis. Aim: To assess the frequency of factor V Leiden (G1691A) and prothrombin -G20210A alleles in patients with deep venous thrombosis (DVT) and in the general population from Spain. Material and methods: Factor V Leiden (g1691a) and prothrombin-g20210a alleles were genotyped in 493 individuals from the Spanish general populations and in 131 patients with DVT. The presence of DVT was confirmed by phlebography. Allelic frequencies and the DVT risk associated with these variants were estimated. Results: Allelic frequencies for the factor V Leiden (G1691A) allele were …
Apoptotic role of Fas/Fas ligand system in the regulation of erythropoiesis
1999
Abstract The possible involvement of Fas and Fas ligand (FasL) in the regulation of erythropoiesis was evaluated. Immunohistochemistry of normal bone marrow specimens revealed that several immature erythroblasts undergo apoptosis in vivo. Analysis of bone marrow erythroblasts and purified progenitors undergoing unilineage erythroid differentiation showed that Fas is rapidly upregulated in early erythroblasts and expressed at high levels through terminal maturation. However, Fas crosslinking was effective only in less mature erythroblasts, particularly at basophilic level, where it induced apoptosis antagonized by high levels of erythropoietin (Epo). In contrast, FasL was selectively induced…
The role of PET radiomic features in prostate cancer: a systematic review
2021
Aim: This systematic review aims to present the available evidence on the use of radiomic features (RFs) extracted from PET imaging in patients with prostate cancer (PCa). Materials and methods: A comprehensive literature search of studies on the utility of PET-derived RFs in patients with PCa was performed in the PubMed/MEDLINE database through February 24th, 2021 using the following search string: [“positron-emission tomography” (MeSh terms) OR “positron emission tomography computed tomography” (MeSh terms) OR “positron-emission tomography” (all fields) OR “positron emission tomography computed tomography” (all fields) OR “PET” (all fields)] AND [“radiomics” (all fields) OR “radiomic” (al…
Isolated erythema (cellulitis) of the breast.
2002
Abstract This paper reports nine cases of breast cellulitis in women patients (four cases in pregnancy, four postmenopausal cases following hormone replacement therapy and one case of unilateral breast oedema following a mediastinal lymphoma). Biopsies were obtained from the erythematous area in one pregnant patient, one postmenopausal patient and the patient with breast oedema associated with the mediastinal lymphoma. Histology revealed unspecific dermatitis with extensive perivascular lymphoplasmocellular infiltrates. Histopathological examination of biopsies obtained from the underlying mammary tissue along with the corresponding mammographic data gave no evidence of mastitis or mammary …
Confronting the psychological burden of haemophilia
2010
Providing comprehensive care, counselling and support to haemophilic patients, and their parents have always been quite complex for haemophilia treatment centres. Nowadays, starting with recent developments in genetic counselling, prenatal diagnosis and carrier testing, the psychological burden on patients and parents might possibly have increased, compared with even the recent past. The emotional strains and worries associated with a possibly affected newborn and his care through childhood and adolescence may also have a grievous impact on couple dynamics and marital relationship. The impact may be even higher in families in which haemophilia is newly diagnosed. The main psychological prob…
Hat das Ausmaß der Lymphknotendissektion einen Einfluß auf die Morbidität und Prognose nach Pankreaskopfresektion wegen eines duktalen oder periampul…
1997
We examined the influence of lymph node dissection on morbidity and mortality of 13 patients after resection of the head of pancreas due to a ductal or periampullary carcinoma. In both groups the radicality of the operation was the main prognostic factor. In ductal pancreatic carcinoma the R-status was able to be determined better by normalisation of the postoperative Ca 19-9 serum level than by the evaluation of the surgeon or pathologist. For prognosis, the quotient of metastatic lymph nodes to resected lymph nodes indicates that an extensive lymph node dissection may increase the long term survival. A lymph node dissection is therefore to be recommended, especially since it does not incr…
Synergistic effects of fluticasone propionate and salmeterol on in vitro T-cell activation and apoptosis in asthma
2004
Background In asthma T cells are characterized by an increased activation state and by reduced apoptosis. Objective Because the clinical efficacy of inhaled corticosteroids combined with long-acting β 2 -agonists has been widely demonstrated in asthma, we studied, in vitro , the effect of fluticasone propionate (FP) and salmeterol alone and in combination on the activation and apoptosis of peripheral blood T cells (PBTs), on the expression of phosphorylated nuclear factor κB inhibitor (IκBα), and on the nuclear translocation of glucocorticoid receptor (GR) in PBTs from asthmatic subjects. Methods Apoptosis was evaluated on the basis of annexin V binding, whereas the expression of caspases 8…
"Doctor, tengo un bulto en la axila". Adenomegalia siliconomatosa postmamoplastia de aumento: a propósito de ocho casos
2010
No encontramos roturas protésicas an…
Chronifizierte paranoid-halluzinatorische Psychose als Erstmanifestation einer HIV-Infektion?
2008
In a 36-year-old patient an acute onset of psychosis occurred, probably due to HIV infection. For one year HIV-infection with reduced T4/T8 ratio had been known without clinical manifestation (stage IV B of the CDC-classification). He developed chronic delusional hallucinations, which persisted for more than one year in spite of adequate psychoactive drug therapy. So far AIDS-related dementia has not become evident. Focal lesions caused by opportunistic infections or tumour were excluded by computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. The latter revealed several small lesions and the brain scan showed a nonhomogeneous pattern of cerebral blood flow. CSF-examination disclosed a mild l…
