Standardisierte pathoanatomische Befunddokumentation auf den ADT-Tumorbgen fr Malignome des Mundes, der Kiefer und des Gesichts (Version III)
1995
The documentation form for pathohistologic findings (version III) for tumors of the maxillofacial region is presented. It is part of the site-specific documentation of the German Association of Tumor Centers (ADT). Its handling is explained by instructions which are based on the ICD-O classification and the TNM system. The prognostic relevance of the standardized documentation has already been proven by various histomorphologic investigations concerning oral and oropharyngeal cancer. By means of a multicentric observational study the German Austrian Swiss co-operative group DOSAK will develop a new prognostic model for oral and oropharyngeal cancer.
Extranodal extension of lymph node metastasis influences recurrence in prostate cancer: a systematic review and meta-analysis
2017
AbstractThe extranodal extension (ENE) of nodal metastasis involves the extension of neoplastic cells through the lymph node capsule into the perinodal adipose tissue. This morphological feature has recently been indicated as an important prognostic factor in various cancer types, but its role in prostate cancer is still unclear. We aimed to clarify it, performing the first meta-analysis on this issue, comparing prognostic parameters in surgically treated, node-positive prostate cancer patients with (ENE+) vs. without (ENE−) ENE. Data were summarized using risk ratios (RRs) for number of deaths/recurrences and hazard ratios (HRs), with 95% confidence intervals (CI), for the time-dependent r…
Prognostic impact of CD73 expression and its relationship to PD-L1 in patients with radically treated pancreatic cancer
2020
AbstractImmune suppressing molecule CD73 is overexpressed in various cancers and associated with poor survival. Little is so far known about the predictive value of CD73 in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). The purpose of this study was to investigate the prognostic significance of CD73 in PDAC. The study material consisted of 110 radically treated patients for PDAC. Tissue microarray blocks were constructed and stained immunohistochemically using CD73 antibody. Staining intensity and numbers of stained tumour cells, inflammatory cells, stroma, and blood vessels were assessed. High-level CD73 expression in tumour cells was positively associated with PD-L1 expression, perineural invas…
DNA image cytometry. A prognostic tool in squamous cell carcinoma of the esophagus?
1991
In 45 patients who underwent an esophagus resection due to a squamous cell carcinoma, in addition to the TNM classification and usual morphologic criteria, the paraffin-embedded material underwent deparaffinization, was rehydrated, and was mechanically and enzymatically processed into a single-cell solution. For evaluating the DNA histogram this was analyzed with the help of automatic single-cell cytophotometric study. The method, contrary to that of flow cytometric study, allows for the selective analysis of tumor cells due to the electronically, previously given selection criteria, whereas artifacts, stroma, and infection cells remain excluded from analysis. The multivariate analysis show…
Influence of class M1 glutathione S-transferase (GST Mu) polymorphism on GST M1 gene expression level and tumor size in oral squamous cell carcinoma.
2010
Glutathione S-transferases (GST) are antioxidant enzymes and oxidative stress markers in oral carcinogenesis. They present a system of polymorphic proteins. Some variants are associated with increased sensitivity to toxic compounds, as it is known for the GSTM1-null variant allele. However, the influence of the GSTM1 allele variant genotype on GSTM1-mRNA quantity in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and normal mucosa as well as the impact on prognosis remains unclear. The genotype for GSTM1 (mutation vs. wild type) was determined by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) using genomic DNA extracted from peripheral blood from 28 OSCC patients. From the same patients, 28 pairs of OSCC cells and no…
Chemokine receptor CCR7 enhances intrahepatic and lymphatic dissemination of human hepatocellular cancer.
2006
Despite many pathophysiological analyses, the process of tumor dissemination of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remains vague. In diverse tumor entities, expression of the chemokine receptor, CCR7, has been linked to tumor dissemination and poor prognosis. Therefore, we evaluated, whether CCR7 exerts similar effects in human HCC. CCR7 expression analysis was performed in vitro on human hepatoma cell lines (Huh7, Hep3B, wt HepG2, p53 dominant negative transfected HepG2). In addition, CCR7 expression was evaluated in 39 patients with hepatocellular cancer and correlated with both, tumor and patients characteristics. Human hepatocellular carcinoma samples and hepatoma cell lines displayed varia…
Overexpression of cyclin D1 and interaction between p27Kip1 and tumour thickness predict lymph node metastases occurrence in lower lip squamous cell …
2005
We have attempted to identify those subgroups of patients most likely to develop lymph node metastases from squamous cell carcinoma of the lower lip (LLSSC). A total of 97 subjects, who did not undergo elective neck dissection, were recruited into the 60-month disease-free survival study. After univariate analysis, tumour size, histological grading, maximal thickness, perineural invasion and immunoreactivity to cyclin D1 and p27Kip1 proteins proved to be significant factors. Tests of the effect of interaction between p27Kip1 LI and tumour thickness yielded that the impact of tumour thickness on the risk of lymph node metastases was modified by the percentage of p27Kip1 positive cells. Subse…
BRAF(V600E) MUTATION AND THE BIOLOGY OF PAPILLARY THYROID CANCER
2008
BRAF((V600E)) mutation is the most frequent genetic alteration in papillary thyroid carcinomas (PTCs) that are 80-90% of all thyroid cancers. We evaluated the relationship between BRAF((V600E)) and tumor, host, and environmental factors in PTCs from all geographical areas of Sicily. By PCR, BRAF((V600E)) was investigated in a series of 323 PTCs diagnosed in 2002-2005. The correlation between clinicopathological tumor, host, and environmental characteristics and the presence of BRAF((V600E)) were evaluated by both univariate and multivariate analyses. BRAF((V600E)) was found in 38.6% PTCs, with a 52% frequency in the classical PTCs and 26.4% in the tall cell variant. Univariate analysis indi…
Factors influencing survival after resection of pancreatic cancer. A DNA analysis and a histomorphologic study
1994
BACKGROUND The influence of DNA content on prognosis in stomach cancer has been investigated rarely, and the results are controversial. METHOD The prognostic relevance of the DNA content and histomorphologic parameters was evaluated in 41 patients after resection of pancreatic cancer. RESULTS In the univariate analysis, the DNA content, tumor size, lymph node status, tumor stage, nuclear grade, and type of resection had a statistically significant influence on the prognosis. No association was found between the DNA content and the histomorphologic features. Apart from the operative procedure, the DNA content was the strongest indicator of prognosis in the multivariate analysis. CONCLUSIONS …
Stereotactic Ablative Radiation Therapy for Lung Oligometastases: Predictive Parameters of Early Response by (18)FDG-PET/CT
2017
Abstract Objectives The objective of this study was to investigate fludeoxyglucose F 18 positron emission tomography/computed tomography ( 18 FDG-PET/CT) parameters as predictive of response after stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR) for lung oligometastases. Methods The inclusion criteria of the current retrospective study were as follows: (1) lung oligometastases treated by SABR, (2) presence of 18 FDG-PET/CT before and after SABR for at least two subsequent evaluations, (3) Karnofsky performance status higher than 80, and (4) life expectancy longer than 6 months. All patients were treated with a biologically equivalent dose of at least 100 Gy with an alpha/beta ratio of 10. The foll…
