Abstract The SCL gene, also known astal-1, encodes a basic helix-loop-helix transcription factor that is pivotal for the normal development of all hematopoietic lineages. SCL is expressed in committed erythroid, mast, and megakaryocytic cells as well as in hematopoietic stem cells. Nothing is known about the regulation of SCL transcription in mast cells, and in other lineages GATA-1 is the only tissue-specific transcription factor recognized to regulate the SCL gene. The multistep synthesis of 3,5-dimethyl-6-phenyl-8-(trifluoromethyl)-5,6-dihydropyrazolo[3,4-f][1,2,3,5]tetrazepin-4(3H)-one 15 has been carried out. The compound showed antiproliferative and apoptotic effects against K562, K562-R (imatinib mesilate resistant), HL60 and multidrug resistant (MDR) HL60 cell lines. Compound 15 showed a pro-apoptotic activity against HL60 and K562 resistant cell lines markedly higher than etoposide and busulfan, respectively. Flow cytometry studies carried out on K562 cells allowed to establish that 15 induces G0-G1 phase arrest followed by apoptosis.

Abstract CML is an uncontrolled proliferation of bone marrow myeloid cells driven by the constitutively active fusion product tyrosine kinase BCR/ABL. Angiogenesis, the formation of new blood vessels from pre-existing vasculature, is newly recognized as a factor in CML progression. Exosomes, released by a broad spectrum of cells, are microvesicles that play an important role in cell-to-cell communication both in physiological and pathological conditions. Laparoscopic lymph node dissection should be performed before fertility preserving treatment of patients with cervical cancer

Objective: The aim of this study is to assess our results of treatment of women with stage I cervical cancer > 2 cm in diameter seeking fertility preservation. Treatment consisted of Laparoscopic Pelvic and Paraaortic Lymphadenectomy (LPPLND), and when no nodal metastasis was detected, neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) followed by radical vaginal trachelectomy (RVT). Patients with positive lymph nodes underwent primary chemoradiation. Methods: A cohort of women younger than 40 years of age with stage I disease > 2 cm who underwent LPPLND and either NACT and RVT or chemoradiation. Oncological outcome was evaluated prospectively. Erythropoietin (EPO), already known as the stimulating hormone for erythropoiesis, has shown different and interesting pleiotropic actions. It does not only affect erythroid cells, but also myeloid cells, lymphocytes and megakaryocytes. Background: Kawasaki disease (KD) is an acute systemic vasculitis of small and middle size arteries; 15-25 % of untreated patients and 5 % of patients treated with intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) develop coronary artery lesions (CAL).
