Neuronal effects of Sugammadex in combination with Rocuronium or Vecuronium.

Rocuronium (ROC) and Vecuronium (VEC) are the most currently used steroidal non-depolarizing neuromuscular blocking (MNB) agents. Sugammadex (SUG) rapidly reverses steroidal NMB agents after anaesthesia. The present study was conducted in order to evaluate neuronal effects of SUG alone and in combination with both ROC and VEC. Using MTT, CASP-3 activity and Western-blot we determined the toxicity of SUG, ROC or VEC in neurons in primary culture. SUG induces apoptosis/necrosis in neurons in primary culture and increases cytochrome C (CytC), apoptosis-inducing factor (AIF), Smac/Diablo and Caspase 3 (CASP-3) protein expression. In his seminal work on social contract theory, Leviathan, Thomas Hobbes described the anarchic pre-societal condition of the state of nature. In this predicament – aptly named as “the war of all against all” – people lived poor, short and brutish lives. The dystopian world simulated in the survival horror game DayZ mirrors this natural state of man. The game invites players to roleplay survivors of a zombie apocalypse. The present paper examines the factors contributing to pervasive violence, moral ambiguity and degeneration of human condition, which are prominent features of DayZ’s gameplay. Kantojen korjuu energiapuuksi on vastikään yleistynyt metsänuudistamisessa, eikä sen ympäristövaikutuksia vielä täysin tiedetä. Tämän tutkielman tavoitteena oli selvittää 1) kantojen korjuun vaikutusta maaperän hajottajaeläimistölle (änkyrimadot, punkit, hyppyhäntäiset) verrattuna perinteisesti metsänuudistamisessa tehtyyn laikkumätästykseen, 2) hajottajaeläinyhteisöjen mahdollisia eroja metsänuudistamisessa aikoinaan rikkoutuneen ja ehjänä säilyneen maanpinnan välillä ja 3) avohakkuun vaikutusta hajottajaeläinyhteisöihin, kun uudistustoimista oli kulunut kymmenkunta vuotta. Merkittävä osa kasvien yhteyttämästä hiilestä päätyy maan alle joko kasvibiomassana, symbionttisten sienten biomassana tai juurten erittäminä hiiliyhdisteinä. Maaperäeläimille ja mikrobeille juurista maahan erittyneet hiiliyhdisteet ovat tärkeä energianlähde. Puiden juurieritys vaikuttaa siten myös maaperän eliöyhteisön rakenteeseen ja sitä kautta mahdollisesti kaikkiin maaperän mikrobiologisiin prosesseihin. Tässä tutkimuksessa selvitettiin kuinka puiden juurierityksen estäminen vaikuttaa maaperäeläimien runsauteen sekä tiettyihin maaperän ominaisuuksiin.
