Pulse EPR methods for studying chemical and biological samples containing transition metals

This review discusses the application of pulse EPR to the characterization of disordered systems, with an emphasis on samples containing transition metals. Electron nuclear double-resonance (ENDOR), electron-spin-echo envelope-modulation (ESEEM), and double electron-electron resonance (DEER) methodologies are outlined. The theory of field modulation is outlined, and its application is illustrated with DEER experiments. The simulation of powder spectra in EPR is discussed, and strategies for optimization are given. We sub-divided our statement in 2 sections. section I discusses the pathophysiology, atherogenicity and measurement issues, while section II is focused on the effects of drug and lifestyle modifications. Suggestions for future research in the field are highlighted at the end of section II. Each section includes Conclusions.
MRI activity and neutralising antibody as predictors of response to interferon beta treatment in multiple sclerosis

Objective: To prospectively validate MRI activity and neutralising anti-interferon antibody (NAb) during the first 6 months of interferon β treatment as response indicators in multiple sclerosis (MS). Methods: Patients with relapsing–remitting MS were followed during the first 2 years of treatment. Neurological assessments were performed every 3 months or when a relapse was suspected. MRI scans performed at baseline and at 3, 4, 5 and 6 months after the start of treatment were assessed centrally for disease activity: new T2 or gadolinium enhancing T1 lesions. Liquid structure and dynamics in the choline acetate:urea 1:2 deep eutectic solvent

We report on the thermodynamic, structural, and dynamic properties of a recently proposed deep eutectic solvent, formed by choline acetate (ChAc) and urea (U) at the stoichiometric ratio 1:2, hereinafter indicated as ChAc:U. Although the crystalline phase melts at 36-38 degrees C depending on the heating rate, ChAc:U can be easily supercooled at sub-ambient conditions, thus maintaining at the liquid state, with a glass-liquid transition at about -50 degrees C. Purpose: To evaluate dipyridamole cardiac magnetic resonance (MR) imaging in the prediction of major events (MEs) in patients with ischemic chest pain in a large multicenter registry. Journal article The dimeric complex [MnIII2(Naphth-sao)2(Naphth-saoH)2(MeOH)2][middle dot]4MeOH (1[middle dot]4MeOH), acts as a simple model complex with which to examine the magneto-structural relationship in polymetallic, oxime-bridged MnIII complexes. Dc magnetic susceptibility studies reveal that ferromagnetic exchange is mediated through the heavily twisted Mn-O-N-Mn moiety (J = +1.24 cm-1) with magnetisation measurements at low temperatures and high fields suggesting significant anisotropy. Abstract Patients with malignant gliomas have a poor prognosis with average survival of less than one year. Whereas in other tumor entities the characteristics of tumor metabolism are successfully used for therapeutic approaches, such developments are very rare in brain tumors, notably in gliomas.
