MITOCHONDRIAL DISORDER SECONDARY TO INFLAMMATION IN POLYMYOSITIS - 2 CASES

National audience; Abstract: Two cases of polymyositis were followed using phosphorus nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The spectra recorded during remission were normal, but those collected from the gastrocnemius muscle during the active phase of the diseases showed an increased inorganic phosphate level or a decreased phosphocreatine content. The intracellular pH was normal. These findings may be related to an impairment in mitochondrial metabolism secondary to the inflammatory process. Moreover, the fact that the abnormalities observed disappeared after treatment suggests that phosphorus NMR spectroscopy could be used as a non-invasive method in the follow-up of polymyositis, but …

MRI activity and neutralising antibody as predictors of response to interferon beta treatment in multiple sclerosis

Objective: To prospectively validate MRI activity and neutralising anti-interferon antibody (NAb) during the first 6 months of interferon β treatment as response indicators in multiple sclerosis (MS). Methods: Patients with relapsing–remitting MS were followed during the first 2 years of treatment. Neurological assessments were performed every 3 months or when a relapse was suspected. MRI scans performed at baseline and at 3, 4, 5 and 6 months after the start of treatment were assessed centrally for disease activity: new T2 or gadolinium enhancing T1 lesions. Recently, pancreatic lipid accumulation has also been associated with beta-cell dysfunction and reduced insulin production, leading to the development of type 2 diabetes. Physical exercise training has been shown to attenuate beta-cell dysfunction in patients, but little is known about its effects on pancreatic and hepatic fat accumulation. Purpose: To evaluate dipyridamole cardiac magnetic resonance (MR) imaging in the prediction of major events (MEs) in patients with ischemic chest pain in a large multicenter registry. Materials and Methods: Institutional ethics committee approval and written informed consent were obtained. A total of 1722 patients who were undergoing cardiac MR imaging for chest pain were included. ProstateAnalyzer: web-based medical application for the management of prostate cancer using multiparametric MR imaging

Objectives: In this paper, we present ProstateAnalyzer, a new web-based medical tool for prostate cancer diagnosis. ProstateAnalyzer allows the visualization and analysis of magnetic resonance images (MRI) in a single framework. Methods: ProstateAnalyzer recovers the data from a PACS server and displays all the associated MRI images in the same framework, usually consisting of 3D T2-weighted imaging for anatomy, dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI for perfusion, diffusion-weighted imaging in the form of an apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) map and MR Spectroscopy. The hydrolysis of methyltin(IV) cations at fairly high concentrations was investigated to evaluate the formation of polynuclear species in aqueous solution. The hydrolysis of monomethyltin(IV), dimethyltin(IV), and trimethyltin(IV) was studied by potentiometry at T = 298.15 K and at I = 1 mol L-1 in NaNO3 aqueous solutions. Because of the environmental impact of cement industry, it is more and more common to replace a part of the clinker in cement by secondary cementitious materials (SCMs). The structure of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) hydrogels formed as a result of freeze/thaw treatments of aqueous solutions of the polymer (11 wt % PVA) in the freshly prepared state is analyzed through the combined use of small (SANS) and ultrasmall (USANS) angle neutron scattering techniques. The structure of these hydrogels may be described in terms of polymer rich regions, with dimensions of the order of 1-2 microm, dispersed in a water rich phase, forming two bicontinuous phases. Ferromagnetic exchange in a twisted, oxime-bridged [mniii2] dimer

Journal article The dimeric complex [MnIII2(Naphth-sao)2(Naphth-saoH)2(MeOH)2][middle dot]4MeOH (1[middle dot]4MeOH), acts as a simple model complex with which to examine the magneto-structural relationship in polymetallic, oxime-bridged MnIII complexes. Dc magnetic susceptibility studies reveal that ferromagnetic exchange is mediated through the heavily twisted Mn-O-N-Mn moiety (J = +1.24 cm-1) with magnetisation measurements at low temperatures and high fields suggesting significant anisotropy.
