Agency of labour in a flexible pan-European labour market : a qualitative study of migrant practices and trade union strategies in the Netherlands

2015

Regulatory frameworks on intra-EU mobility and flexible cross-border employment relations have stimulated competition on labour costs by recruiting migrants via cheaper labour market regimes. While it allows firms to remunerate migrants under different terms and conditions, blurring regulatory boundaries also generates opportunities for non-compliance, resulting in violations of migrant labour rights across Europe. Against this background, this thesis explores the agency of labour, more specifically of temporary migrant workers and unions, and the ways they cope with and respond to the competitive dynamics of the pan- European labour market. Mūsdienu neironu tīklu modeļiem efektīva tālu atkarību modelēšana sagādā problēmas. Īpaši izteikta šī problēma ir algoritmiskiem uzdevumiem, tomēr arī citos uzdevumos tā sagādā grūtības un noved pie daudzu uzdevuma-specifisku modeļu izstrādes. Darbā tiek piedāvāti 3 jauni neironu tīkli - Neironu Jaukšanas-Apmaiņas, Atlikuma Jaukšanas-Apmaiņas un Switchblade -, kas spēj modelēt tālas atkarības datos un ir piemērotas plašam uzdevumu klāstam. Jaunās arhitektūras tiek novērtētas uz algoritmu indukcijas, valodas modelēšanas, skaņas un attēlu apstrādes uzdevumiem. Mūsdienu daudzvalodu pasaulē valodas barjera bieži ir liels šķērslis, jo vienkāršam cilvēkam ir grūti atrast uzņēmumu, kas varētu ātri un lēti tulkot. Arī šī uzņēmuma reputācija nav zināma. Šī sistema ir ērta, jo tā ir pēc iespējas caurspīdīgāka. Uzreiz var saprast, kad tiks veikts tulkojums un par cik tas būs kvalitatīvs. Domstarpību gadījumā ir trešā puse, kas palīdz atrisināt pārpratumu. Tämä Tansaniaan sijoittuva väitöskirjatutkimus tarkastelee vammaisuutta kehityskysymyksenä seksuaali- ja lisääntymisterveyden ja -oikeuksien kautta. Se edistää intersektionaalista ja kontekstisidonnaista ymmärrystä vammaisuudesta, sukupuolesta ja nuoruudesta. Tutkimuksen teoreettisena inspiraationa hyödynnettiin vammaisuuden sosiaalista ja ihmisoikeusmallia. Tutkimus haastaa tiedonhankinnan kolonialiteetteja perehtymällä 199 tansanialaisen eri tavoin vammaisen tytön näkemyksiin. This paper explores connections between identity and language use in lingua franca contexts by investigating identity construction among Finnish users of English as revealed in interviews conducted both before and after a period spent in Germany. The focus is on the users' own stories of their language use and learning, and on the discursive construction of identities. The study draws on poststructuralist theories of identity construction, combining them with research that focuses on language learners' identity construction or on identity issues in contexts with English as a lingua franca. Experiences of left-behind family members of transnational migrant workers have been in the shadow of academic discourse on migration. To contribute to the slowly growing body of literature, this study explores the impact of male out-migration on left-behind wives. The study proposes and applies a novel framework to estimate Women Empowerment Index (WEI) for comparing the empowerment level across households with and without men in transnational labor.
