Oedenburg.
A Generic Architectural Model Approach for Efficient Utilization of Patterns
2015
A software pattern describes the core of the solution to a problem that tends to (re-)occur in a particular environment. Such patterns are commonly used as a means to facilitate the creation of an architectural design satisfying the desired quality goals. In this chapter, the practical challenges of efficient usage of patterns in domain-specific software development are presented. The specific domain considered here is the mobile domain, for which is given a sample collection of potentially useful patterns. After that, a novel generic architectural model approach for organizing patterns is presented. In this approach, the identification of relevant patterns is considered as the process of r…
orthoFind Facilitates the Discovery of Homologous and Orthologous Proteins
2015
Finding homologous and orthologous protein sequences is often the first step in evolutionary studies, annotation projects, and experiments of functional complementation. Despite all currently available computational tools, there is a requirement for easy-to-use tools that provide functional information. Here, a new web application called orthoFind is presented, which allows a quick search for homologous and orthologous proteins given one or more query sequences, allowing a recurrent and exhaustive search against reference proteomes, and being able to include user databases. It addresses the protein multidomain problem, searching for homologs with the same domain architecture, and gives a si…
Agent-Oriented Captology for Anthropocentric Systems
2001
Abstract Considering that anthropo centric systems are an adequate domain for captological approaches, and that interface agents are most natural interactants for the humans involved, the paper presents a broad-spectrum generic architectural framework to support developing flexible interfaces for industrial applications, based on synergetic correlation between persuasive technologies and polymorphic agents. The design space for agent-oriented captology is defined and several of its main dimensions are elaborated upon. The main mechanisms used are dynamic priorities, "flexible cloning" and fuzzy temporal windows. Some agent-oriented test-bench applications instantiating the generic architect…
Enquête sur les archives ouvertes françaises menée par Couperin en 2019 : résultats et analyses
2020
French Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) are, for 89% of the respondents to the survey, now having their own open repository, or declaring to be in the implementation phase (compared to 82% in 2017 and only 62% in 2014). It can therefore be considered that almost all HEIs now offer a green open access repository or signalling solution to their researchers. The « still in progress » or suspended projects are rather related to the current recomposition of the Higher Education landscape. The most obvious obstacles to the latest implementations remain both the low involvement of researchers in the project and the human resources allocated. There is a slight but real increase in the rate of i…
Études géoarchéologiques et archéobotaniques du comblement de la canalisation du site de la Rue du Ruisseau à Grand (Vosges, Lorraine, France)
2017
International audience; The ancient urban area of Grand (Vosges, Lorraine, France) is characterised by numerous hydraulic infrastructures including a canalisation, crossing the ‘Rue du Ruisseau’ site, which has been in the focus of multidisciplinary investigations. Stratigraphic study and characterisation (sedimentology and micromorphology) of sediments filling of this canalisation and of associated carbonated crusts show a succession of accumulation and erosive phases, driven by variations of the water level. Sequential stratigraphy allows the identification of gaps in the sedimentary sequence corresponding to cleanings and backfills of some sections of the canalisation. Combustion waste a…

The production of terracotta figurines in the city of Augustodunum. Presentation of the latest research.
2018
A “Voodoo Doll in Diapers”: Deconstructing the Cruel Child in Lionel Shriver’s We Need to Talk About Kevin (2003)
2018
This chapter examines the ways in which Lionel Shriver’s novel We Need to Talk About Kevin (2003) complicates mainstream representations of young high school shooters. The central argument is that Shriver offers her readers a critical and informed meta-perspective which conceives of childhood as a discursive construct. The chapter illustrates how constructivism arises as a highly ambivalent practice in the novel. One the one hand, it allows the novel to dissect and challenge the patterns according to which school shooters are commonly constructed in the media without, however, confirming any of them as Kevin’s “true” nature. On the other hand, the novel’s engagement with constructivism is b…
Electronic Mail as a Forum for Argumentative Interaction in Higher Education Studies
1998
This article reports a study in which thirty-one undergraduate students practiced academic argumentation by electronic mail (e-mail). In the two “tutorled” e-mail study groups the discussion topics were selected by the tutor, while in the two self-directed “student-led” groups selection was by the students. The quantity and quality of student-student interaction, and the factors associated with this were investigated. The results indicated that 42 percent of the students' messages (n = 441) were interactive in nature, indicating at least one reference to fellow students' messages. When difficult contents were addressed, interaction in the tutor-led groups was more common than in the studen…
