Railway ballast degradation under dynamic loads progressively leads to loss of mechanical performance and geometry of the track, so that maintenance interventions are frequently needed. In order to system- atically avoid this issue, recently solutions have been proposed to reinforce track-bed by using polyur- ethane and/or resins as well as asphalt layers among others. Abstract Despite being the most used worldwide, railway ballasted tracks presents high maintenance cost related to ballast settlement and particle degradation. With the aim of reducing life cycle costs, bitumen stabilised ballast (BSB) has been recently proposed as a relatively cheap alternative maintenance solution to be applied to existing tracks. In diesem Buch ist die Geschichte der Wiederentdeckung des Palimpsests mit den Gaius-Institutionen durch Barthold Georg Niebuhr neu verhandelt. Die jüngst wiederbelebte These von einer „angekündigten Entdeckung“ wird in Frage gestellt. Das verzerrte Bild des Niebuhrschen Fundes in der Sicht dieser These ist kein Zufall. Es stellt sich vielmehr als später Nachklang wissenschaftlicher Querelen jener Zeit dar. Glomerular basement membrane: evidence for collagenous domain of the alpha 3 and alpha 4 chains of collagen IV.

Abstract A collagenous component(s) of Mr = 60K was extracted from glomerular basement membrane with urea and was purified. Upon digestion, it yielded a collagenase-resistant fragment(s) of Mr = 23.5K. Both component and fragment showed immunochemical identity with the noncollagenous domains of the new α3 & α4 chains of collagen IV. The component is characterized by a collagenous domain of about 280 residues and a noncollagenous domain of about 250 residues. These findings further establish these new chains as distinct entities of collagen IV.

A Bayesian approach for predictive maintenance policy with imperfect monitoring

In the traditional preventive maintenance policy, the periodic maintenance activities are scheduled on the basis of the a-priori information about the failure behaviour of the population which the component belongs to, by assuming a probability distribution function and by estimating the involved statistical parameters. On the contrary, with the predictive approach, the maintenance activity is scheduled on the basis of the real degradation level of the component.
