Gaļas bojāšanos izraisošo mikroorganismu identifikācija

2016

Identification of cryptic Candida species by MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry, not all MALDI-TOF systems are the same: focus on the C. parapsilosis specie…

2016

Data about the performance of MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry against cryptic Candida species are limited. According to our findings within the C. parapsilosis species complex, microbiologists should be aware that the choice of the instrument is critical for accurate species identification due to the risk of misidentification in the clinical setting.

Description of Klebsiella spallanzanii sp. nov. and of Klebsiella pasteurii sp. nov

2019

AbstractKlebsiella oxytocacauses opportunistic human infections and post-antibiotic haemorrhagic diarrhoea. ThisEnterobacteriaceaespecies is genetically heterogeneous and is currently subdivided into seven phylogroups (Ko1 to Ko4, Ko6 to Ko8). Here we investigated the taxonomic status of phylogroups Ko3 and Ko4. Genomic sequence-based phylogenetic analyses demonstrate that Ko3 and Ko4 formed well-defined sequence clusters related to, but distinct from,Klebsiella michiganensis(Ko1),Klebsiella oxytoca(Ko2),K. huaxiensis(Ko8) andK. grimontii(Ko6). The average nucleotide identity of Ko3 and Ko4 were 90.7% withK. huaxiensisand 95.5% withK. grimontii, respectively. In addition, three strains ofK.…

Comparative Quantitative Analysis of Porcine Optic Nerve Head and Retina Subproteomes

2019

Optic nerve head (ONH) and retina (RET) are the main sites of damage in neurodegenerative optic neuropathies including glaucoma. Up to date, little is known about the molecular interplay between these two adjoining ocular components in terms of proteomics. To close this gap, we investigated ONH and RET protein extracts derived from porcine eyes (n = 12) (Sus scrofa domestica Linnaeus 1758) using semi-quantitative mass spectrometry (MS)-based proteomics comprising bottom-up LC&ndash

Proteomic analysis of exosome-like vesicles derived from breast cancer cells.

2012

Background/Aim: The phenomenon of membrane vesicle-release by neoplastic cells is a growing field of interest in cancer research, due to their potential role in carrying a large array of tumor antigens when secreted into the extracellular medium. In particular, experimental evidence show that at least some of the tumor markers detected in the blood circulation of mammary carcinoma patients are carried by membrane-bound vesicles. Thus, biomarker research in breast cancer can gain great benefits from vesicle characterization. Materials and Methods: Conditioned medium was collected from serum starved MDA-MB-231 sub-confluent cell cultures and exosome-like vesicles (ELVs) were isolated by ultra…

Assessing the MALDI-TOF MS sample preparation procedure to analyze the influence of thermo-oxidative ageing and thermo-mechanical degradation on poly…

2011

[EN] Multiple processing by means of successive injection cycles was used to simulate the thermo-mechanical degradation effects on the oligomeric distribution of PLA under mechanical recycling. Likewise, an accelerated thermal ageing over PLA glass transition was performed in order to simulate its service life. MALDI-TOF MS was used for the analysis and the sample preparation procedure was assessed by means of a statistical Design of Experiments (DoE). The quality effects in use for the analysis were signal-to-noise ratio and Resolution. Different matrixes, analyte/matrix proportions and the use of NaTFA as cationization agent were considered. A deep inspection of the statistical results pr…

Determination of Fungi and Multi-Class Mycotoxins in Camelia sinensis and Herbal Teas and Dietary Exposure Assessment

2020

In this paper, a study of fungal and multi-mycotoxin contamination in 140 Camellia sinensis and 26 herbal teas marketed in Latvia is discussed. The analysis was performed using two-dimensional liquid chromatography with time-of-flight mass spectrometry (2D-LC-TOF-MS) and MALDI-TOF-MS. In total, 87% of the tea samples tested positive for 32 fungal species belonging to 17 genera, with the total enumeration of moulds ranging between 1.00 &times
