Morphological determination of the phototrophic community composition of biological soil crusts in coastal sand dunes in northern Germany

This dataset comprises the microbial community composition of biological soil crusts in north-German sand dunes. For this we obtained enrichment cultures of phototrophic microorganisms, by placing fragments of biocrusts of the same Petri dishes as used for sequencing, in Petri dishes with Bold Basal (1N BBM) agarized medium (Bischoff and Bold 1963). Cultures were grown under standard laboratory conditions: with a 12-hour alteration of light and dark phases and irradiation of 25 μmol photons m-2 s-1 at a temperature 20 ± 5 ºС. Surface Analysis in Archaeology Using the Miniaturized Mössbauer Spectrometer MIMOS II

A miniaturized Mossbauer spectrometer (MIMOS II) which was designed and constructed for extraterrestrial applications, such as iron-containing rock and soil analysis on the planet Mars, has been employed to investigate the iron-containing constituents in the paintings of a Lekythos Greek vase. Greek pottery is commonly painted with black figures. The Mossbauer backscattering spectra recorded with MIMOS II at room temperature show that the hand-painted black figures contain hematite.

The miniaturised Mössbauer spectrometer MIMOS IIA: Increased sensitivity and new capability for elemental analysis

The Miniaturised Mossbauer Spectrometers MIMOS II on board the two Mars Exploration Rovers (MER) have now been collecting valuable scientific data for more than five years. Mossbauer Spectrometers are part of two future missions: Phobos Grunt (Russian Space Agency) and a joint ESA—NASA Rover in 2018. The new advanced MIMOS IIA instrument described in this paper uses Silicon Drift Detectors (SDD) allowing also X-ray fluorescence chemical analysis (XRF) simultaneously to Mossbauer acquisitions. This paper highlights the features and technological improvements of the new spectrometer MIMOS IIA.

The trend towards bigger ships and shorter berthing times places severe stress on container terminals, which cannot simply increase the available cranes indefinitely. Therefore, the focus is on optimizing existing resources. International audience; This paper explores the potential link between the sensitivity of willingness to pay (WTP) to the order of presenting bid amounts in contingent valuation questions (ordering effect) and respondent uncertainty. The resource being valued is a public project to protect salt marshes against the spread of an invasive aquatic plant in the Brest roadstead (France). This article examines the evolution of social relations in the Italian steel mill at Cornigliano, near Genoa, during the 1950s. Built with funding from the Marshall Plan, the mill was the subject of a number of initiatives aimed at establishing a system of industrial relations based on the contractual and consensual ‘American model’. The transfer of industrial equipment and management tools was used by American authorities to put pressure on Italian players to accept the imported model. But these management techniques tended to lose their identity when they were implemented in the local context. Abstract This paper deals with two main problems in laminate design: the search for uncoupled and quasi-homogeneous laminates. Using the polar representation method, the authors show the existence of a particular class of mathematically exact solutions to these two problems. An important feature of these solutions is that they are independent of the orientations of the layers. In fact, these orientations are not fixed by the method, and each solution determines in reality only a stacking sequence, where each layer belongs to a group of plies having the same orientation.
