Metafora ed Analogia in Didattica della Matematica
2014
This paper is a report that concerns two experiments that I proposed in nine secondary school classes (pupils from fourteen to eighteen years old) in order to test some hypotesis concerning the use of metaphor during teaching-learning processes. I begin by analyzing the different significances of the concepts of metaphor and analogy that can be found in literature. Then I try to frame these concepts within the framework of semiotic mediation. I show some excerpts taken from the experimentations, and I try to interpret some of pupil’s utterances (words, gestures) as metaphors which offer to the teacher a possible way (by analogies) to introduce mathematical contents. I conclude with some ope…
Differential of metric valued Sobolev maps
2020
We introduce a notion of differential of a Sobolev map between metric spaces. The differential is given in the framework of tangent and cotangent modules of metric measure spaces, developed by the first author. We prove that our notion is consistent with Kirchheim's metric differential when the source is a Euclidean space, and with the abstract differential provided by the first author when the target is $\mathbb{R}$.
A PU-integral on a compact Hausdorff space.

2011
The paper is devoted to extend some mean value inequalities from the function setting to the multifunction one. Let (M,d) be a metric space, let F be a multifunctions defined on D \subset R and taking values in the family of nonempty subsets of M, and let g: D\rightarrow R be a strictly increasing function. The author proves the following inequality: \frac{\delta(F(b),F(a))}{g(b)-g(a)} \leq \sup_{s\in [a,b)\cap D} \sup_{S\in F(s)} \sup_{t\in (s,b)\cap D} \frac{\delta(F(t),S)}{g(t)-g(s)}, where a and b are two points of D with a<b and, if Q and P are nonempty subsets of M, then \delta(Q,P)=\sup_{p\in P} \inf_{q\in Q}d(q,p). An application of the previous inequality to the Dini derivatives of…

(p,2)-equations resonant at any variational eigenvalue
2018
We consider nonlinear elliptic Dirichlet problems driven by the sum of a p-Laplacian and a Laplacian (a (p,2) -equation). The reaction term at ±∞ is resonant with respect to any variational eigenvalue of the p-Laplacian. We prove two multiplicity theorems for such equations.
Global representation and multiscale expansion for the Dirichlet problem in a domain with a small hole close to the boundary
2019
For each pair (Formula presented.) of positive parameters, we define a perforated domain (Formula presented.) by making a small hole of size (Formula presented.) in an open regular subset (Formula presented.) of (Formula presented.) ((Formula presented.)). The hole is situated at distance (Formula presented.) from the outer boundary (Formula presented.) of the domain. Thus, when (Formula presented.) both the size of the hole and its distance from (Formula presented.) tend to zero, but the size shrinks faster than the distance. Next, we consider a Dirichlet problem for the Laplace equation in the perforated domain (Formula presented.) and we denote its solution by (Formula presented.) Our ai…
On multivalued weakly Picard operators in partial Hausdorff metric spaces
2015
We discuss multivalued weakly Picard operators on partial Hausdorff metric spaces. First, we obtain Kikkawa-Suzuki type fixed point theorems for a new type of generalized contractive conditions. Then, we prove data dependence of a fixed points set theorem. Finally, we present sufficient conditions for well-posedness of a fixed point problem. Our results generalize, complement and extend classical theorems in metric and partial metric spaces.
Study of Intumescent Coatings Growth for Fire Retardant Systems in Naval Applications: Experimental Test and Mathematical Model
2022
Onboard ships, fire is one of the most dangerous events that can occur. For both military and commercial ships, fire risks are the most worrying; for this reason they have an important impact on the design of the vessel. The intumescent coatings react when heated or in contact with a living flame, and a multi-layered insulating structure grows up, protecting the underlying structure. In this concern, the aim of the paper is to evaluate the intumescent capacity of different composite coatings coupling synergistically modeling and experimental tests. In particular, the experiments have been carried out on a new paint formulation, developed by Colorificio Atria S.r.l., in which the active comp…
SOME EXAMPLES RELATED TO A CLASS OF FUNCTIONALS WITHOUT GLOBAL MINIMA
2012
Abstract: In this paper, we provide six examples which show the sharpness of the assumptions of a recent deep result of Ricceri about a class of functionals without global minima.
