Increasing stability in the linearized inverse Schrödinger potential problem with power type nonlinearities
2022
We consider increasing stability in the inverse Schr\"{o}dinger potential problem with power type nonlinearities at a large wavenumber. Two linearization approaches, with respect to small boundary data and small potential function, are proposed and their performance on the inverse Schr\"{o}dinger potential problem is investigated. It can be observed that higher order linearization for small boundary data can provide an increasing stability for an arbitrary power type nonlinearity term if the wavenumber is chosen large. Meanwhile, linearization with respect to the potential function leads to increasing stability for a quadratic nonlinearity term, which highlights the advantage of nonlinearit…
On some partial data Calderón type problems with mixed boundary conditions
2021
In this article we consider the simultaneous recovery of bulk and boundary potentials in (degenerate) elliptic equations modelling (degenerate) conducting media with inaccessible boundaries. This connects local and nonlocal Calderón type problems. We prove two main results on these type of problems: On the one hand, we derive simultaneous bulk and boundary Runge approximation results. Building on these, we deduce uniqueness for localized bulk and boundary potentials. On the other hand, we construct a family of CGO solutions associated with the corresponding equations. These allow us to deduce uniqueness results for arbitrary bounded, not necessarily localized bulk and boundary potentials. T…
Systematic implementation of higher order Whitney forms in methods based on discrete exterior calculus
2022
AbstractWe present a systematic way to implement higher order Whitney forms in numerical methods based on discrete exterior calculus. Given a simplicial mesh, we first refine the mesh into smaller simplices which can be used to define higher order Whitney forms. Cochains on this refined mesh can then be interpolated using higher order Whitney forms. Hence, when the refined mesh is used with methods based on discrete exterior calculus, the solution can be expressed as a higher order Whitney form. We present algorithms for the three required steps: refining the mesh, solving the coefficients of the interpolant, and evaluating the interpolant at a given point. With our algorithms, the order of…
On the second-order regularity of solutions to the parabolic p-Laplace equation
2022
AbstractIn this paper, we study the second-order Sobolev regularity of solutions to the parabolic p-Laplace equation. For any p-parabolic function u, we show that $$D(\left| Du\right| ^{\frac{p-2+s}{2}}Du)$$ D ( D u p - 2 + s 2 D u ) exists as a function and belongs to $$L^{2}_{\text {loc}}$$ L loc 2 with $$s>-1$$ s > - 1 and $$1<p<\infty $$ 1 < p < ∞ . The range of s is sharp.
Spectral multipliers and wave equation for sub-Laplacians: lower regularity bounds of Euclidean type
2018
Let $\mathscr{L}$ be a smooth second-order real differential operator in divergence form on a manifold of dimension $n$. Under a bracket-generating condition, we show that the ranges of validity of spectral multiplier estimates of Mihlin--H\"ormander type and wave propagator estimates of Miyachi--Peral type for $\mathscr{L}$ cannot be wider than the corresponding ranges for the Laplace operator on $\mathbb{R}^n$. The result applies to all sub-Laplacians on Carnot groups and more general sub-Riemannian manifolds, without restrictions on the step. The proof hinges on a Fourier integral representation for the wave propagator associated with $\mathscr{L}$ and nondegeneracy properties of the sub…
Partial Data Problems and Unique Continuation in Scalar and Vector Field Tomography
2022
AbstractWe prove that if P(D) is some constant coefficient partial differential operator and f is a scalar field such that P(D)f vanishes in a given open set, then the integrals of f over all lines intersecting that open set determine the scalar field uniquely everywhere. This is done by proving a unique continuation property of fractional Laplacians which implies uniqueness for the partial data problem. We also apply our results to partial data problems of vector fields.
Asymptotic Mean-Value Formulas for Solutions of General Second-Order Elliptic Equations
2022
Abstract We obtain asymptotic mean-value formulas for solutions of second-order elliptic equations. Our approach is very flexible and allows us to consider several families of operators obtained as an infimum, a supremum, or a combination of both infimum and supremum, of linear operators. The families of equations that we consider include well-known operators such as Pucci, Issacs, and k-Hessian operators.
Group Identities on Units of Group Algebras
2000
Abstract Let U be the group of units of the group algebra FG of a group G over a field F . Suppose that either F is infinite or G has an element of infinite order. We characterize groups G so that U satisfies a group identity. Under the assumption that G modulo the torsion elements is nilpotent this gives a complete classification of such groups. For torsion groups this problem has already been settled in recent years.
Some new (s,k,?)-translation transversal designs with non-abelian translation group
1989
For λ >1 and many values of s andk, we give a construction of (s,k,λ)-partitions of finite non-abelian p-groups and of Frobenius groups with non-abelian kernel. These groups are associated with translation transversl designs of the same parameters.
Abelian Sylow subgroups in a finite group, II
2015
Abstract Let p ≠ 3 , 5 be a prime. We prove that Sylow p-subgroups of a finite group G are abelian if and only if the class sizes of the p-elements of G are all coprime to p. This gives a solution to a problem posed by R. Brauer in 1956 (for p ≠ 3 , 5 ).
