Angiolo Mazzoni
2015
Engineer and Architect, Mazzoni is famous for his numerous projects and completed works, mainly comprising public buildings, train stations and post offices. In 1919 he obtained a degree in engineering at the Scuola di Applicazione per Ingegneri, where he studied under G. Giovannoni, G.B. Milani, and V. Fasolo. Subsequently he attended Bologna’s Accademia di Belle Arti, where he obtained a degree in architecture in 1923 As most of his work presents a wide use of experimentation and different styles, it is hard to find a common denominator. Moreover, during his training he was also influenced by the monumental and traditional styles typical of Piacentini, whose studio Mazzoni frequented for …
Effect of laboratory procedures on the integrity of a sandy-loam soil sample for bi-directional measurement of saturated hydraulic conductivity
2011
Practical and validated methods to measure anisotropy of saturated, Ks, or field-saturated, Kfs, soil hydraulic conductivity on a single soil sample are still lacking. The objective of this investigation was to test factors affecting anisotropy measured in a sandy-loam soil by the constant-head laboratory permeameter and the modified cube method. The ratio, RK, between the conductivity results obtained with a long (6 h) and a short (0.5 h) duration run varied from a minimum of 0.29 to a maximum of 0.88 with the considered experimental procedure, differing by both the employed constant-head device (Mariotte bottle, siphon) and the initial soil water content (unsaturated, saturated). Maximum …
Predicting maximum annual values of event soil loss by USLE-type models
2017
Abstract Previous experimental investigations showed that a large proportion of total plot soil erosion over a long time period is generally due to relatively few, large storms. Consequently, erosion models able to accurately predict the highest plot soil loss values have practical importance since they could allow to improve the design of soil conservation practices in an area of interest. At present USLE-based models are attractive from a practical point of view, since the input data are generally easy to obtain. The USLE was developed with specific reference to the mean annual temporal scale but it was also applied at the event scale. Other models, such as the USLE-M and the USLE-MM, app…
Chemical composition of the essential oil from Thapsia garganica L. (Apiaceae) grown wild in Sicily and its antimicrobial activity.
2015
In this study, the chemical composition of the essential oil from flowers and leaves of Thapsia garganica L. collected in Sicily was evaluated by GC and GC-MS. The main components of T. garganica flower oil (T.f.) were chamazulene (58.3%), humulene oxide II (9.0%), tricosane (8.2%) and pentacosane (8.2%). Also the oil from leaves (T.l.) was characterised by high content of chamazulene (49.2%). Other abundant metabolites were 1,4-dimethylazulene (18.5%), (E)-phytol (6.3%) and neophytadiene (5.1%). The comparison with other studied oils of genus Thapsia is discussed. Antimicrobial activity against several micro-organisms, including some ones infesting historical art craft, was also determined.
Multivariate analysis of the behavioral responses of rodents studied by means of different anxiety-inducing tests
Materiały do poznania fauny Kampinoskiego Parku Narodowego: Apionidae i Nanophyidae (Coleoptera: Curculionoidea)
2013
New localities of 35 species of Apionidae and 2 species of Nanophyidae in the Kampinos National Park are presented, among them respectively 26 and 2 species new for the studied area. Regarding Apionidae, 8 of 9 species recorded from the Kampinos National Park in literature, were confirmed to occur there. Perapion oblongum (GYLL.) has been recorded from the Mazovian Lowland for the first time
L'approvvigionamento idrico per l'agricoltura
2008
Hop: Histogram of patterns for human action representation
2017
This paper presents a novel method for representing actions in terms of multinomial distributions of frequent sequential patterns of different length. Frequent sequential patterns are series of data descriptors that occur many times in the data. This paper proposes to learn a codebook of frequent sequential patterns by means of an apriori-like algorithm, and to represent an action with a Bag-of-Frequent-Sequential-Patterns approach. Preliminary experiments of the proposed method have been conducted for action classification on skeletal data. The method achieves state-of-the-art accuracy value in cross-subject validation.
The dynamics of 57Fe nuclei in Fe(II)-DNA and [Fe(II)(1-methyl-2-mercaptoimidazole)2]-DNA condensates.
2002
Abstract Alcoholic solutions of FeCl 2 and Fe II (Hmmi) 2 Cl 2 (Hmmi=1-methyl-2-mercaptoimidazole) induce calf thymus DNA condensation from aqueous solutions buffered at pH 7.4. A 1:1 Fe II –(DNA monomer) stoichiometry is assumed. The 57 Fe Mossbauer hyperfine parameters suggest an octahedral coordination environment, severely distorted, in both Fe II –(DNA monomer) and [Fe II (Hmmi) 2 ]–(DNA monomer) condensates. The dynamic properties of iron nuclei in freeze-dried samples were investigated by means of variable temperature 57 Fe Mossbauer spectroscopy. Mean square displacements, 〈 x 2 〉( T ), were calculated, such as the effective vibrating mass and the Mossbauer lattice temperature of th…
