Understanding formability and geometrical accuracy of SPIF process used as reshaping approach
2021
Putting in place Circular Economy strategies is an urgent action to be undertaken. Manufacturing processes play a relevant role as efficient material reuse enabler. Scientists have to make an effort either to find new process or to rethink old process to reprocess End-of-life (EoL) components to recover both material and functions. In this paper, Single Point Incremental Forming (SPIF) process is used for reshaping sheet metal EoL components. Deep drawing process as well as uniaxial pre-straining (to imitate the End-of-Life component) followed by SPIF operations (to obtain the reshaped components) are set- up and implemented to form and reform aluminum sheet metal components. As the authors…
LEOPARD-II: A randomized phase II study of radiochemotherapy (RCT) with 5FU and cisplatin plus/minus cetuximab (Cet) in unresectable locally advanced…
2014
4081 Background: Patients (pts) with LAEC have a poor prognosis; new therapies are required. A study showed the addition of Cet to RCT to be safe and effective for resectable EC [Ruhstaller et al, ...
Cetuximab, fluorouracil (5-FU), cisplatin, and docetaxel as first-line treatment in patients with recurrent and/or metastatic squamous cell carcinoma…
2013
e17021 Background: This study investigates efficacy and toxicity of docetaxel added to cetuximab, cisplatin and 5-FU for patients with R/M SCCHN. We here report a planned second interim analysis to compare response rates between arms in order to decide on continuing to full accrual. Methods: Inclusion criteria were: stage III/IV R/M SCCHN and ECOG 0-1. Patients were randomized to arm A: cetuximab (standard dose) plus a maximum of 6 cycles of docetaxel (40 mg/m², day 1+8), cisplatin (40 mg/m², day 1+8) and 5-FU (2000 mg/m², day 1+8) or to arm B: cetuximab (standard dose), cisplatin (100 mg/m², day 1) and 5-FU (1000 mg/m², day 1-4). Treatment was administered until progression or intolerabil…
THE RECOVERY-ELISA—A NOVEL ASSAY TECHNIQUE TO MONITOR THERAPY WITH HUMANIZED ANTIBODIES: THE EXAMPLE OF OMALIZUMAB
2013
The therapeutic use of antibodies has grown exponentially, providing new treatment options for various diseases. Monitoring treatment with therapeutic antibodies is a particular challenge because often the target antigen is no longer measurable or the results are unreliable. To overcome this problem, a recovery-ELISA was developed to quantify therapeutic antibody and antigen by a modification of the traditional sandwich immunoassay using omalizumab as an example. Standard serum samples were spiked with IgE and omalizumab in a certain concentration range to create standard curves. After incubation and washout procedures, the reaction was stopped and the plate read with bichromatic absorbance…
Canakinumab in Systemic Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis: Clinical Inactive Disease Rate and Safety in Italian Patients
2020
Introduction: Systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis (sJIA) accounts for 10-20% of all patients with JIA. The demonstration of a key role of IL-1 and IL-6 in the pathogenesis of the disease, led to consider sJIA an autoinflammatory disease: this explain the successfully use of IL-1 and IL-6 inhibitors. While the efficacy and safety of anakinra in sJIA is widely documented, there are no reports on large series of patients treated with canakinumab outside of the setting of clinical trials. Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate clinical response rate and disease course of canakinumab in Italian cohort of patients with sJIA. Methods: This is a retrospective multicenter study. Oral Glycoprotein IIb/IIa Antagonists for Unstable Angina — Is There Still a Chance for the Oral Substances?
2001
The intravenous glycoprotein IIb/IIIa antagonists abciximab, tirofiban and eptifibatide are well accepted for the therapy of patients with unstable angina and/or as concomitant medication during coronary interventions. Despite the fact that these drugs are not used in all patients presenting with unstable angina during coronary interventions, the scientific evidence is overwhelming including the substantial reduction in mortality 3 years after utilisation of abciximab for coronary interventions in patients with unstable angina. In addition to these two indications, intravenous glycoprotein IIb/IIIa antagonists are currently being investigated for use in patients undergoing carotid artery in…
Prediction of Ductile Fractures Occurrence in Deep Drawing of Square Boxes
1996
Abstract The authors propose a new approach for the prediction of tearing in the deep drawing process of square boxes. Such an approach is based on a damage mechanics formulation and in particular on the yield condition for damaging materials proposed by Tvergaard and Needleman and on a strain controlled nucleation model. The flow rule associated to the yield condition is introduced in a finite element explicit formulation founded on the solution of the dynamic equilibrium equation and on an explicit time integration scheme. By this way the developed model allows to calculate the void volume fraction value during the deep drawing process of square boxes and consequently to predict the insur…

Moving Learning Machine Towards Fast Real-Time Applications: A High-Speed FPGA-based Implementation of the OS-ELM Training Algorithm
2018
Currently, there are some emerging online learning applications handling data streams in real-time. The On-line Sequential Extreme Learning Machine (OS-ELM) has been successfully used in real-time condition prediction applications because of its good generalization performance at an extreme learning speed, but the number of trainings by a second (training frequency) achieved in these continuous learning applications has to be further reduced. This paper proposes a performance-optimized implementation of the OS-ELM training algorithm when it is applied to real-time applications. In this case, the natural way of feeding the training of the neural network is one-by-one, i.e., training the neur…
An efficient hardware implementation of MQ decoder of the JPEG2000
2014
Abstract JPEG2000 is an international standard for still images intended to overcome the shortcomings of the existing JPEG standard. Compared to JPEG image compression techniques, JPEG2000 standard has not only better not only has better compression ratios, but it also offers some exciting features. As it’s hard to meet the real-time requirement of image compression systems by software, it is necessary to implement compression system by hardware. The MQ decoder of the JPEG2000 standard is an important bottleneck for real-time applications. In order to meet the real-time requirement we propose in this paper a novel architecture for a MQ decoder with high throughput which is comparable to tha…
