Parameter dependence for the positive solutions of nonlinear, nonhomogeneous Robin problems

2020

We consider a parametric nonlinear Robin problem driven by a nonlinear nonhomogeneous differential operator plus an indefinite potential. The reaction term is $$(p-1)$$-superlinear but need not satisfy the usual Ambrosetti–Rabinowitz condition. We look for positive solutions and prove a bifurcation-type result for the set of positive solutions as the parameter $$\lambda >0$$ varies. Also we prove the existence of a minimal positive solution $$u_\lambda ^*$$ and determine the monotonicity and continuity properties of the map $$\lambda \rightarrow u_\lambda ^*$$.

Approximation properties of λ-Kantorovich operators

2018

In the present paper, we study a new type of Bernstein operators depending on the parameter \documentclass[12pt]{minimal} \usepackage{amsmath} \usepackage{wasysym} \usepackage{amsfonts} \usepackage{amssymb} \usepackage{amsbsy} \usepackage{mathrsfs} \usepackage{upgreek} \setlength{\oddsidemargin}{-69pt} \begin{document}$\lambda\in[-1,1]$\end{document}λ∈[−1,1]. The Kantorovich modification of these sequences of linear positive operators will be considered. A quantitative Voronovskaja type theorem by means of Ditzian–Totik modulus of smoothness is proved. Also, a Grüss–Voronovskaja type theorem for λ-Kantorovich operators is provided. Some numerical examples which show the relevance of the res…

On the slope of hyperelliptic fibrations with positive relative irregularity

2016

Let $f:\, S \to B$ be a locally non-trivial relatively minimal fibration of hyperelliptic curves of genus $g\geq 2$ with relative irregularity $q_f$. We show a sharp lower bound on the slope $\lambda_f$ of $f$. As a consequence, we prove a conjecture of Barja and Stoppino on the lower bound of $\lambda_f$ as an increasing function of $q_f$ in this case, and we also prove a conjecture of Xiao on the ampleness of the direct image of the relative canonical sheaf if $\lambda_f<4$.

Weighted Hardy inequalities beyond Lipschitz domains

2014

It is a well-known fact that in a Lipschitz domain \Omega\subset R^n a p-Hardy inequality, with weight d(x,\partial\Omega)^\beta, holds for all u\in C_0^\infty(\Omega) whenever \beta<p-1. We show that actually the same is true under the sole assumption that the boundary of the domain satisfies a uniform density condition with the exponent \lambda=n-1. Corresponding results also hold for smaller exponents, and, in fact, our methods work in general metric spaces satisfying standard structural assumptions.

Positive solutions for the Neumann p-Laplacian

2017

We examine parametric nonlinear Neumann problems driven by the p-Laplacian with asymptotically ( $$p-1$$ )-linear reaction term f(z, x) (as $$x\rightarrow +\infty $$ ). We determine the existence, nonexistence and minimality of positive solutions as the parameter $$\lambda >0$$ varies.

Perturbed eigenvalue problems for the Robin p-Laplacian plus an indefinite potential

2020

AbstractWe consider a parametric nonlinear Robin problem driven by the negativep-Laplacian plus an indefinite potential. The equation can be thought as a perturbation of the usual eigenvalue problem. We consider the case where the perturbation$$f(z,\cdot )$$f(z,·)is$$(p-1)$$(p-1)-sublinear and then the case where it is$$(p-1)$$(p-1)-superlinear but without satisfying the Ambrosetti–Rabinowitz condition. We establish existence and uniqueness or multiplicity of positive solutions for certain admissible range for the parameter$$\lambda \in {\mathbb {R}}$$λ∈Rwhich we specify exactly in terms of principal eigenvalue of the differential operator.

QCD vacuum condensates from tau-lepton decay data

2006

The QCD vacuum condensates in the Operator Product Expansion are extracted from the final ALEPH data on vector and axial-vector spectral functions from $\tau$-decay. Weighted Finite Energy Sum Rules are employed in the framework of both Fixed Order and Contour Improved Perturbation Theory. An overall consistent picture satisfying chirality constraints can be achieved only for values of the QCD scale below some critical value $\Lambda\simeq350 {MeV}$. For larger values of $\Lambda$, perturbation theory overwhelms the power corrections. A strong correlation is then found between $\Lambda$ and the resulting values of the condensates. Reasonable accuracy is obtained up to dimension $d=8$, beyon…

K*(892)0 and ϕ(1020) meson production at high transverse momentum in pp and Pb-Pb collisions at sNN=2.76 TeV

2017

The yields of the K*(892)(0) and phi(1020) resonances are measured in Pb-Pb collisions at root s(NN) = 2.76 TeV through their hadronic decays using the ALICE detector. The measurements are performed in multiple centrality intervals at mid-rapidity (vertical bar y vertical bar <0.5) in the transverse-momentum ranges 0.3 <p(T) <5 GeV/c for the K*(892)(0) and 0.5 <p(T) <5 GeV/c for the phi(1020). The yields of K*(892)(0) are suppressed in central Pb-Pb collisions with respect to pp and peripheral Pb-Pb collisions (perhaps due to rescattering of its decay products in the hadronic medium), while the longer-lived phi(1020) meson is not suppressed. These particles are also used as probes to study …
