Nanowire iron(III) coordination polymer based on 1,2,4-triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine and chloride ligands

Abstract The neutral ligand 1,2,4-triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine (tp) has been employed to prepare a new coordination compound of Fe(III), [FeCl3(tp)2]n (1). Compound 1 was investigated by single crystal X-ray diffraction and found to be a coordination polymer forming a ladder structure based on metal–ligand interactions, while H-bonding and aromatic interactions contribute to the supramolecular self-assembly into a 3D nanostructured material. The polymeric assembly is retained also in solution, where a metallo-supramolecular polymer based on coordinative metal–ligand binding is present, as shown by dynamic light scattering (DLS) measurements. BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Efavirenz (EFV) is widely used in the treatment of HIV-1 infection. Though highly efficient, there is growing concern about EFV-related side effects, the molecular basis of which remains elusive. EXPERIMENTAL APPROACH In vitro studies were performed to address the effect of clinically relevant concentrations of EFV (10, 25 and 50 mu M) on human hepatic cells. AbstractThe role of putative DNA-binding domains of human papillomavirus (HPV) capsid proteins for DNA encapsidation in vivo is still unknown. We have now analyzed mutants of the major capsid protein L1 of HPV type 33, which are defective for DNA binding, for their ability to encapsidate DNA using an in vivo packaging approach. Since the DNA-binding domain and the nuclear localization signal (NLS) of L1 overlap, both a carboxy-terminal deletion mutant (L1-1/470) and a substitution mutant (L1-1/477M9) were analyzed. Nucleoporins (Nups) represent a range of proteins most known for composing the macromolecular assembly of the nuclear pore complex (NPC). Among them, the family of intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs) phenylalanine-glycine (FG) rich Nups, form the permeability barrier and coordinate the high-speed nucleocytoplasmic transport in a selective way. Those FG-Nups have been demonstrated to participate in various biological processes besides nucleocytoplasmic transport.
