Neuroanatomical changes in early Parkinson’s disease with mild cognitive impairment: a VBM study; the Parkinson’s Disease Cognitive Impairment Study …

2021

Introduction: Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is common in Parkinson’s disease (PD), but the underlying pathological mechanism has not been fully understood. Voxel-based morphometry could be used to evaluate regional atrophy and its relationship with cognitive performances in early PD-MCI. Patients and Methods: One hundred and six patients with PD were recruited from a larger cohort of patients, the Parkinson’s Disease Cognitive Impairment Study (PaCoS). Subject underwent a T1-3D MRI and a complete clinical and neuropsychological evaluation. Patients were divided into PD with normal cognition (PD-NC) and PD-MCI according to the MDS level II criteria–modified for PD-MCI. A subgroup of early …

Treatment of recurrent aphthous stomatitis. A literature review

2014

Recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS) is the most common chronic disease of the oral cavity, affecting 5-25% of the population. The underlying etiology remains unclear, and no curative treatment is available. The present review examines the existing treatments for RAS with the purpose of answering a number of questions: How should these patients be treated in the dental clinic? What topical drugs are available and when should they be used? What systemic drugs are available and when should they be used? A literature search was made of the PubMed, Cochrane and Scopus databases, limited to articles published between 2008-2012, with scientific levels of evidence 1 and 2 (metaanalyses, systematic …

Safety and Efficacy of Ranibizumab in Macular Edema following Retinal Vein Occlusion.

2013

Macular edema is the leading cause of visual impairment in patients with retinal vein occlusion. Limited improvements may be obtained with laser photocoagulation or intravitreal triamcinolone. However, according to the data provided by randomized clinical trials, intravitreal injections of ranibizumab (Lucentis; Genentech, South San Francisco, CA) constitute a new effective and safe option for the management of these vision-threatening diseases. The aim of the present review is to summarize the clinical evidence of ranibizumab for macular edema due to retinal vein occlusions.

The use of topical corticosteroides in the treatment of oral lichen planus in Spain: A national survey

2017

Background Explore the treatment of oral lichen planus with topical corticosteroids by the healthcare professionals in Spain. Material and Methods A questionnaire targeted health professionals who treat OLP, in particular maxillofacial surgeons, dermatologist and dentist. The dissemination of the questionnaires was conducted through professional associations and dental and medical societies. The questionnaire was previously evaluated by means of a cognitive pre-test procedure to ensure that the questions were opportune and appropriate, understandable and acceptable among the professionals. Results Of the 890 questionnaires sent a total of 190 questionnaires were answered by 90 dentists, 60 …

2018

Aim: To study the role of ozone disc Nucleolysis in herniated intervertebral disc
Materials: We retrospectively analysed consecutives patients undergoing ozone disc nucleolysis. There were Total of 5265 patients with 2740 males and 2525 females .their Age was ranging from 17yrs to 84 years. Patients weight was ranging from 36 to 138 kilograms. All the patients had failed conservative management for at least 3weeks.
Methods: All the patients were clinically evaluated as per inclusion and exclusion criterions. Pre-treatment Visual Analogue scale (VAS)and Oswestry Disability Index (ODI).All the patients undergone Pre-treatments work up of MRI of the spine.256 patients were underg…

Intravitreal dexamethasone implant for cystoid macular edema and inflammation after scleral buckling

2015

Purpose Cystoid macular edema may occur following scleral buckling and therefore deteriorate the visual outcome. Inflammation may be the major causative factor in the development of postoperative cystoid macular edema. This case demonstrates the effectiveness of a dexamethasone implant as a treatment after the onset of choroidal inflammation and cystoid macular edema 6 months following scleral buckling and having visual acuity restored. Methods A 59-year-old phakic woman treated with scleral buckling for macula-off retinal detachment presented 2 months after surgery with cystoid macular edema with choroidal inflammation. Optical coherence tomography and fluorescein angiography were performe…

Laserfotokoagulation und photodynamische Therapie (PDT) zur Behandlung der retinalen angiomatösen Proliferation (RAP) bei feuchter altersabhängiger M…

2008

BACKGROUND: Retinal angiomatous proliferation (RAP) is a subtype of neovascular age-related macular degeneration (AMD) with particularly bad prognosis. Diverse treatment modalities are performed. PATIENTS AND METHODS: This is a retrospective review on the treatment results of 41 consecutive patients from 1 / 2003 to 12 / 2005 with RAP stage 1 - 3 (Yannuzzi classification), who were treated with laser photocoagulation, photodynamic therapy (PDT) and intravitreal injection of triamcinolone acetonide (IVT). Follow-up was 12 months minimally. RESULTS: In RAP stage I complete closure of the vascular lesion in 14 / 22 eyes was achieved by 1.2 ± 0.5 sessions of laser photocoagulation (4 × combined…

Results of a Phase I-II Pilot Study with Intravescical Gemcitabine in Superficial Bladder Cancer (Ta-T1)

2005

To study the ablative activity of intravescical gemcitabine against superficial transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder at different doses and concentrations. Methods Twenty-seven patients were treated with intravescical gemcitabine after transurethral resection, during which one to three papillary marker lesions were left unresected. Starting 14 days after transurethral resection, six gemcitabine instillations were given at weekly intervals. Gemcitabine, diluted in 50 mL of saline solution and maintained for 2 hr, was given at a dose of 500, 1000 and 2000 mg in groups of nine patients each. A complete response (CR) was defined as negative cutologycystoscopy and biopsy findings. Results…

Evolving European guidance on the medical management of neovascular age related macular degeneration

2006

BACKGROUND: Until recently, only two options were available for the treatment of choroidal neovascularisation (CNV) associated with age related macular degeneration (AMD)-thermal laser photocoagulation and photodynamic therapy with verteporfin (PDT-V). However, new treatments for CNV are in development, and data from phase III clinical trials of some of these pharmacological interventions are now available. In light of these new data, expert guidance is required to enable retina specialists with expertise in the management of AMD to select and use the most appropriate therapies for the treatment of neovascular AMD. METHODS: Consensus from a round table of European retina specialists was obt…
