Heteroglossia in Action: Sámi Children, Textbooks and Rap

2013

This chapter examines heteroglossia in the complex, continuously evolving multilingual context of Samiland, the historically and culturally central area for indigenous Sami culture and languages. The analytical discussion is of a rap about textbooks, created and performed by a group of Sami children with the help of their teachers and parents that they presented as their petition for more Sami language teaching materials. The rap is viewed as an example of heteroglossic practices, a strategic mobilization, mixture and recycling of multiple meaning making resources that result in a polyphonic performance.

Evaluación de las actitudes de culpabilización de la víctima en casos de violencia de pareja contra la mujer: desarrollo y validación de la escala VB…

2018

ABSTRACT Intimate partner violence against women (IPVAW) is the most common form of violence suffered by women and constitutes a serious public health problem of global proportions. Public attitudes towards IPVAW are key to understanding the social context in which this type of violence occurs. Victim-blaming attitudes are among those that reflect public tolerance and acceptability of IPVAW and are often used to explain or justify IPVAW. In this study we develop and validate a new instrument to assess victim-blaming attitudes in cases of IPVAW. A sample of 1,800 participants was recruited through social media and a second sample of 50 IPVAW offenders was used for validation purposes. Throug…

La medida de la aceptabilidad de la violencia de pareja contra la mujer: desarrollo y validación de la escala A-IPVAW

2018

Abstract: Intimate partner violence against women (IPVAW) is a major social and public health problem of global proportions. Public attitudes toward IPVAW shape the social environment in which such violence takes place, and attitudes of acceptability of IPVAW are considered a risk factor to actual IPVAW. The aim of this study was to develop and validate a scale measuring acceptability of IPVAW (A-IPVAW). To this end, a sample of 1,800 respondents was recruited via social media. A second sample of 50 IPVAW offenders was used for concurrent validity analyses. Following a cross-validation approach and using item response theory analyses, we found that the latent structure of the scale was one-…

Foaming estimation tests in activated sludge systems.

2005

Persistent biological foaming phenomena in activated sludge systems due to excess of filamentous microorganisms with hydrophobic properties, such as GALO, Microthrix parvicella and others, are frequently reported everywhere. Nevertheless, even if the number of plants affected by this trouble is high, presently there are no suitable general methods to evaluate properly the phenomenon. This paper reports on the results of a series of foam tests (Scum Index, Foam Rating), of hydrophobicity measurements of activated sludge (mixed liquor and foam) and measurements of extension of aeration tank covered by foam surfaces. The data obtained by using the above indicated methods are clearly correlated…

1965

Abstract Sedimentation and diffusion coefficients determined by optical methods on pure (crystallized) enzymes are compared with those obtained by activity measurements on the unpurified enzymes. On performing the experiments under suitable conditions, results of the two methods are in good agreement. The calculation of the molecular weights of the unpurified enzymes is somewhat uncertain because the partial specific volume in most cases is not accurately known.

Actual evapotranspiration assessment by means of a coupled energy/hydrologic balance model: Validation over an olive grove by means of scintillometry…

2010

Summary A coupled energy/hydrologic model was applied to simulate the exchange of energy and water in the soil–plant-atmosphere system (SPA). The model, which uses a “two-source” approach to estimate the energy fluxes, and the “force-restore” approach to represent the water balance, was validated by means of evapotranspiration measurements collected via scintillometry and soil moisture measurements collected via time domain reflectometry (TDR) in a Sicilian olive grove. The comparison between measured and estimated fluxes values at an hourly scale showed good agreement. Additional comparisons on a daily timescale confirmed the model’s applicability for quantifying crop water requirements. A…

Exposure-Based Cash-Flow-At-Risk for Value-Creating Risk Management Under Macroeconomic Uncertainty

2010

A strategically minded CFO will realize that strategic corporate risk management is about finding the right balance between risk prevention and proactive value generation. Efficient risk and performance management requires adequate assessment of risk and risk exposures on the one hand and performance on the other. Properly designed, a risk measure should provide information on to what extend the firm's performance is at risk, what is causing that risk, the relative importance of non-value-adding and value-adding risk, and the possibilities to use risk management to reduce total risk. In this chapter, we present an approach – exposure-based cash-flow-at-risk – to calculating a firm's downsid…

Personal Gains from Materials in Social Networks

2021

Importance of gains from social networks is analyzed in great extent in many countries by many researchers as social networks are reaching more and more importance. Research methods applied: analysis of scientific publications, survey of social network users on gains from materials in social networks. For evaluations by respondents in survey it was used evaluation scale 1–6 as it is used in grading system in Germany. Survey data results are analyzed by indicators of descriptive statistics – indicators of central tendency or location: arithmetic mean, median, mode and indicator of variability – standard deviation. In the research there were found differences by countries in use of social net…
