Bayesian causal mediation analysis through linear mixed-effect models

In mediational settings, the main focus is on the estimation of the indirect effect of an exposure on an outcome through a third variable called mediator. The traditional maximum likelihood estimation method presents several problems in the estimation of the standard error and the confidence interval of the indirect effect. In this paper, we propose a Bayesian approach to obtain the posterior distribution of the indirect effect through MCMC, in the context of mediational mixed models for longitudinal data. A simulation study shows that our method outperforms the traditional maximum likelihood approach in terms of bias and coverage rates.
Bioremediation of chronically oil-polluted marine sediment using beats of hydrocarbons-degrading bacteria

Bioremediation is a good kind of "green biotechnology" based on the microorganisms ability to degrade hydrocarbons fractions. In this work sediment samples were collected from the industrial harbor of Priolo Gargallo (Augusta, Syracuse, Sicily - Italy), a chronically polluted area. Enrichment cultures and microbial isolation were performed. Amoung 258 bacteria and 5 consortia isolated, strain S1 (Alcanivorax borkumensis, 98%) and two consortia (PSO and PSM) showed degradation rates of ~98% for linear and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PHAs) after 10 days of incubation (25±1°C, shaking 100 g). Este artículo trata de recoger la diversidad cultural existente en las aulas del sistema educativo español realizando una breve revisión de la evolución de la escolarización del alumnado migrante en las aulas. Además, busca visibilizar las ausencias de la formación inicial del profesorado en clave de mediación intercultural desde las directrices marcadas desde los equivalentes al actual Ministerio de Educación y Formación Profesional. A partir de la metodología cualitativa de análisis de contenido, se reconoce cómo la naturaleza de estas religiones determina su interpretación del fenómeno de la inmigración.
