Analysis of the MHC Class I Antigen Presentation Machinery in Human Embryonal Carcinomas: Evidence for Deficiencies in TAP, LMP and MHC Class I Expre…
1998
The expression of the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I antigens is suppressed in early post-implantation embryonic cells as well as in embryonal carcinoma (EC) cells, but could be upregulated by treatment with interferon (IFN)-gamma or retinoic acid. In a number of human and murine tumours, defects in the expression of the different components of the MHC class I antigen processing machinery, such as the proteasomal subunits LMP-2 and LMP-7 and the peptide transporters TAP-1 and TAP-2, account for impaired MHC class I surface expression. Here, we analysed the constitutive and IFN-gamma regulated mRNA and protein expression of the LMP, TAP and MHC class I molecules in the human …
The Abundant Tegument Protein pUL25 of Human Cytomegalovirus Prevents Proteasomal Degradation of pUL26 and Supports Its Suppression of ISGylation
2018
The tegument of human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) virions contains proteins that interfere with both the intrinsic and the innate immunity. One protein with a thus far unknown function is pUL25. The deletion of pUL25 in a viral mutant (Towne-ΔUL25) had no impact on the release of virions and subviral dense bodies or on virion morphogenesis. Proteomic analyses showed few alterations in the overall protein composition of extracellular particles. A surprising result, however, was the almost complete absence of pUL26 in virions and dense bodies of Towne-ΔUL25 and a reduction of the large isoform pUL26-p27 in mutant virus-infected cells. pUL26 had been shown to inhibit protein conjugation with the in…
RESVEGA, a Nutraceutical Omega-3/Resveratrol Supplementation, Reduces Angiogenesis in a Preclinical Mouse Model of Choroidal Neovascularization
2021
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is an eye disease that is characterized by damage to the central part of the retina, the macula, and that affects millions of people worldwide. At an advanced stage, a blind spot grows in the center of vision, severely handicapping patients with this degenerative condition. Despite therapeutic advances thanks to the use of anti-VEGF, many resistance mechanisms have been found to accentuate the visual deficit. In the present study, we explored whether supplementation with Resvega®, a nutraceutical formulation composed of omega-3 fatty acids and resveratrol, a well-known polyphenol in grapes, was able to counteract laser-induced choroidal neovascularizat…
"Table 4" of "Spin alignment and violation of the OZI rule in exclusive $\omega$ and $\phi$ production in pp collisions"
2014
Spin alignment RHO(00) extracted from the helicity angle distributions for PHI and OMEGA production in the given XF regions for different M(PV) regions. The uncertainty is the propagated uncertainty from the linear fits, which in turn includes the quadratic sum of statistical uncertainties and uncertainties from the background subtraction.
"Table 5" of "Spin alignment and violation of the OZI rule in exclusive $\omega$ and $\phi$ production in pp collisions"
2014
Spin alignment RHO(00) extracted using DELTA(P), the direction of the momentum transfer from the beam proton in the initial state to the fast proton in the final state, as the reference axis. The table includes PHI and OMEGA production. The results for different P(V) cuts are also given for OMEGA production. The uncertainty is the propagated uncertainty from the linear fits, which in turn includes the quadratic sum of statistical uncertainties and uncertainties from the background subtraction.
"Table 3" of "Spin alignment and violation of the OZI rule in exclusive $\omega$ and $\phi$ production in pp collisions"
2014
Spin alignment RHO(00) extracted from the helicity angle distributions for PHI and OMEGA production, in the latter case with various cuts on P(V). The uncertainty is the propagated uncertainty from the linear fits, which in turn includes the quadratic sum of statistical uncertainties and uncertainties from the background subtraction.
Fertility-sparing approach in women affected by stage i and low-grade endometrial carcinoma: An updated overview
2021
Endometrial cancer (EC) is a deleterious condition which strongly affects a woman’s quality of life. Although aggressive interventions should be considered to treat high-grade EC, a conservative approach should be taken into consideration for women wishing to conceive. In this scenario, we present an overview about the EC fertility-sparing approach state of art. Type I EC at low stage is the only histological type which can be addressed with a fertility-sparing approach. Moreover, no myometrium and/or adnexal invasion should be seen, and lymph-vascular space should not be involved. Regarding the pharmaceutical target, progestins, in particular medroxyprogesterone acetate (MPA) or megestrol …
Hypoxia-induced dysfunction of rat diaphragm
2004
Contains fulltext : 47331.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Closed access) Oxidants may play a role in hypoxia-induced respiratory muscle dysfunction. In the present study we hypothesized that hypoxia-induced impairment in diaphragm contractility is associated with elevated peroxynitrite generation. In addition, we hypothesized that strenuous contractility of the diaphragm increases peroxynitrite formation. In vitro force-frequency relationship, isotonic fatigability, and nitrotyrosine levels were assessed under hypoxic (Po(2) approximately 6.5 kPa) and hyperoxic (Po(2) approximately 88.2 kPa) control conditions and also in the presence of authentic peroxynitrite (60 min), ebselen (60 min), and t…
Active Cytomegalovirus Infection in Nonimmunosuppressed Patients in the ICU
2011
Rapidly progressive organising pneumonia associated with cytomegalovirus infection in a patient with psoriasis.
2016
A 63-year-old woman experienced progressive respiratory distress and psoriatic plaques. The radiographic images showed diffuse interstitial infiltrates. The surgical open lung biopsy revealed an obliteration of the alveolar spaces by plugs of connective tissue distributed within the terminal bronchioles, alveolar ducts and spaces. No relevant cause was determined, and she was diagnosed with idiopathic organising pneumonia. The patient was discharged with oral glucocorticosteroid and supplemental oxygen therapy. One month later, the patient’s pulmonary status had progressively worsened, and she was re-admitted. She required higher oxygen concentrations and mechanical ventilation. Pharmacol…
