Malignant Melanoma S3-Guideline “Diagnosis, Therapy and Follow-up of Melanoma”
2013
This first German evidence-based guideline for cutaneous melanoma was developed under the auspices of the German Dermatological Society (DDG) and the Dermatologic Cooperative Oncology Group (DeCOG) and funded by the German Guideline Program in Oncology. The recommendations are based on a systematic literature search, and on the consensus of 32 medical societies, working groups and patient representatives. This guideline contains recommendations concerning diagnosis, therapy and follow-up of melanoma. The diagnosis of primary melanoma based on clinical features and dermoscopic criteria. It is confirmed by histopathologic examination after complete excision with a small margin. For the stagin…

Consenso español de salud física del paciente con depresión
2014
Comorbidity between depression and physical illnesses is very common and has a significant impact on the health and management of the patient. With the support of the Sociedades Espanolas de Psiquiatria y Psiquiatria Biologica, and Sociedad Espanola de Medicos de Atencion Primaria (SEMERGEN) a consensus was prepared on physical health in patients with depression and is summarized in the present work. The literature review highlighted the high frequency of cardiovascular and endocrine-metabolic disorders in patients with depression such as diabetes and obesity, thus making the primary and secondary prevention recommendations for patients with cardiovascular or metabolic risk applicable to pa…
Der kurze popliteodistale Venenbypass beim diabetischen Fußsyndrom DFS
2003
Purpose: World wide increase of diabetes compound with diabetic foot syndrome becomes a challenge in vascular surgery to avoid limb loss. In diabetics a special pattern of atherosclerosis is prevalent with disease limited to the infrageniculate arteries but sparing inflow vessels and distal tibial and pedal arteries. This provides short bypass grafting from popliteal to tibial and pedal arteries, a concept first described by F. Veith in 1981. Methods: Diabetics with severe atherosclerotic disease and limb-threatening ischemia got general evaluation and vascular imaging. Falling in this special category the patients underwent short vein bypass grafting originating at the first or third popli…

Diabetes and Dementia
2015
Persons with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2) have an increased incidence of cognitive decline and dementia. An increased cortical and subcortical atrophy has been found after controlling for vascular disease and inadequate cerebral circulation. A possible role of insulin resistance and hyperinsulinemia has been suggested to mediate the link between DM2 and Alzheimer’s Disease (AD). Altered insulin signaling may contribute to AD biochemical and histopathological lesions. Both hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia may contribute to cognitive decline in DM2. Recurrent symptomatic and asymptomatic hypoglycemic episodes have been suggested to cause subclinical brain damage, and permanent cognitive impai…
Peripheral blood levels of CXCL10 are a useful marker for diabetic polyneuropathy in subjects with type 2 diabetes.
2020
BACKGROUND Diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) is a chronic complication of diabetes mellitus associated with high morbidity and mortality. Major risk factors for DPN include metabolic changes, duration of diabetes, nerve ischaemia and derangements in regeneration and nerve repair programmes. Chemokines have been previously implicated in the pathogenesis of various neuropathies and neuropathic pain processes. The aim of this pilot study was to evaluate the association between the plasma levels of chemokines (CXCL9, CXCL10 and CXCL11) in the presence of DPN in a cohort of type 2 diabetes (T2D) patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS We studied 73 patients with T2D: 36 with DPN and 37 without DPN. D…
