2,4,5-Triaryl imidazole probes for the selective chromo-fluorogenic detection of Cu(II). Prospective use of the Cu(II) complexes for the optical reco…
2019
The sensing behaviour toward metal cations and biothiols of two 2,4,5-triarylimidazole probes (3a and 3b) is tested in acetonitrile and in acetonitrile-water. In acetonitrile the two probes present charge-transfer absorption bands in the 320-350 nm interval. Among all cations tested only Cu(11) is able to induce bathochromic shifts of the absorption band in the two probes, which is reflected in marked colour changes. Colour modulations are ascribed to the formation of 1:1 Cu(II)-probe complexes in which the cation interacts with the imidazole acceptor heterocycle. Besides, the two probes present intense emission bands (at 404 and 437 nm for 3a and 3b respectively) in acetonitrile that are q…
A concise route to MK-4482 (EIDD-2801) from cytidine.
2020
A two-step route to MK-4482 (EIDD-2801, 1) was developed consisting of an esterification and hydroxamination of cytidine. The selective acylation and direct amination eliminate the need for protecting and activating groups and proceed in overall yield of 75%, a significant advancement over the reported yield of 17%. The step count is reduced from five transformations to two, and expensive uridine is replaced with the more available cytidine.
Dual role of silver in a fluorogenic N-squaraine probe based on Ag(i)–π interactions
2021
In the presence of Ag(I), the monoanion of cyano-N-squaraine (I) generates an intense fluorescence turn-on response. Experimental evidence and DFT calculations reveal a sequence of deprotonation-coordination events in which the Ag(I) ions play a dual role as a Lewis acid and coordinating metal. The observed effect is highly selective for Ag(I) compared to other metals.
Nucleophilic iodonium interactions (NIIs) in 2-coordinate iodine(i) and silver(i) complexes
2021
The generality of nucleophilic iodonium interactions (NIIs) has been demonstrated by preparing a range of silver(i) and iodonium (I+) complexes and studying their 15N NMR chemical shifts, with the first example of a NII-complex involving a 2-coordinate silver(i) complex being confirmed by X-ray crystallography, and its nucleophilicity studied by DFT calculations.
Kinetic control in the temperature-dependent sequential growth of surface-confined supramolecular copolymers
2017
We report the sequential growth of supramolecular copolymers on gold surfaces, using oppositely charged dendritic peptide amphiphiles. By including water-solubilising thermoresponsive chains in the monomer design, we observed non-linear effects in the temperature-dependent sequential growth. The step-wise copolymerisation process is characterised using temperature dependent SPR and QCM-D measurements. At higher temperatures, dehydration of peripheral oligoethylene glycol chains supports copolymer growth due to more favourable comonomer interactions. Both monomers incorporate methionine amino acids but remarkably, desorption of the copolymers via competing sulphur gold interactions with the …
Two bimetallic layered materials with “Cu4Fe3” defective cubane units: syntheses, structures and magnetic properties of {[CuII(tn)]2[FeII(CN)6]}3·[Na…
2005
Abstract Reactions of the [Fe III (CN) 6 ] 3− anion with the [Cu II (tn)] 2+ ion (tn = 1,3-diaminopropane) afford the compounds {[Cu II (tn)] 2 [Fe II (CN) 6 ]}3·[Na 3 Fe III (CN) 6 ]·12H 2 O (1) and {[Cu n (tn)] 2 [Fe II (CN) 6 ]}·KCl·5H 2 O (2). Despite the differences concerning their asymmetric units, both structures present strong similar features: in both structures, the Cu(II) ion presents a square-base pyramidal CuN 5 environment and each [Fe II (CN) 6 ] 4− anion is linked to six Cu(II) ions through its six N atoms leading to infinite [Cu II (tn)] 2 [Fe II (CN) 6 ] layers which can be viewed as 2-D layered arrangement generated by the defective cubane units Cu 4 Fe 3 involving Fe-CN…
Spiro-fused bis-hexa-peri-hexabenzocoronene.
2018
A spiro-fused hexa-peri-hexabenzocoronene dimer was synthesized, and its physicochemical properties were studied by UV-Vis absorption and emission spectroscopy as well as cyclic voltammetry. Chemical oxidation of SB-HBC afforded its radical cation and dication derivatives, which could be reversibly reduced to the neutral state.
Exploring the Chemoselectivity towards Cysteine Arylation by Cyclometallated Au III Compounds: New Mechanistic Insights
2020
To gain more insight into the factors controlling the efficient cysteine arylation by cyclometalated Au(III) complexes, the reaction between selected gold compounds and different peptides was investigated by high‐resolution liquid chromatography electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (HR‐LC‐ESI‐MS). The deducted mechanisms of C–S cross‐coupling, also supported by density functional theory (DFT) and quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics (QM/MM) calculations, evidenced the key role of secondary peptidic gold binding sites in favouring the process of reductive elimination.

Photochemistry and Redox Chemistry of an Unsymmetrical Bimetallic Copper(I) Complex
2016
The bimetallic copper(I) complex Cu2L2 (cis-1) is formed with high diasteroselectivity from [Cu(NCCH3)4][BF4] and HL (4-tert-butyl phenyl(pyrrolato-2-yl-methylene)amine) in a kinetically controlled reaction. cis-1 features a rather short Cu···Cu distance of 2.4756(6) A and is weakly emissive at room temperature in solution. Oxidatively triggered disproportionation of cis-1 yields elemental copper and the mononuclear copper(II) complex CuL2 (trans-2). One-electron reduction of trans-2 gives cuprate [2]– with a bent bis(pyrrolato) coordinated copper(I) entity. The imine donor atoms of [2]– can insert an additional copper(I) ion giving exclusively the bimetallic complex cis-1 closing the oxida…
