Creation and thermal annealing of structural defects in neutron-irradiated MgAl 2 O 4 single crystals

2018

Abstract Several novel hole-type defects (a hole localized at a regular oxygen ion near a negatively charged structural defect) have been revealed in fast neutron irradiated MgAl2O4 crystals using the EPR method. The pulse annealing of the EPR signal of these centers was compared to that of radiation induced optical absorption in the same crystals. Taking into account the determined models of V1, V2 and V22 paramagnetic centers, the tentative scenario of the thermal annealing process of neutron-induced defects (hole-type and complementary electron F-type ones) is proposed. In addition, one more paramagnetic hole center consisting of an Al|Mg as-grown antisite defect near an aluminum vacancy…

A comparative study on the compatibility of liquid lead–gold eutectic and liquid lead–bismuth eutectic with T91 and SS 316LN steels

2012

Abstract Liquid lead–gold eutectic (LGE) is considered as a potential target material for high power spallation sources. In the present work, the corrosion effects of LGE on T91 and SS 316LN steels have been investigated in comparison with that of liquid lead–bismuth eutectic (LBE) under the same testing conditions. Two tests were conducted at 400 °C for 1800 h and at 450 °C for 1300 h, in which specimens of the two steels were exposed to 1 m/s flowing LGE and LBE. Surface inspections showed that the specimens underwent a mixed corrosion mode of dissolution and oxidation. The results obtained from the SS 316LN specimens are very interesting. Firstly, EDX (electron energy dispersion X-ray sp…

Thermal annealing of radiation damage produced by swift 132Xe ions in MgO single crystals

2020

Abstract The annealing kinetics of the electron-type F+ and F color centers in highly pure MgO single crystals irradiated by 0.23-GeV 132Xe ions with fluences covering three orders of magnitude (Φ = 5 × 1011 –3.3 × 1014 ions/cm2) are studied experimentally via dependence of the optical absorption on preheating temperature. The annealing data are analyzed in terms of the diffusion-controlled bimolecular reactions between F-type centers and complementary interstitial oxygen ions. The behavior of the main kinetic parameters – the migration energies and pre-exponential factors – for different irradiation fluences is discussed and compared with that for other wide-gap binary materials from previ…

Lattice sites of diffused gold and platinum in epitaxial ZnSe layers

2000

Abstract The lattice location of diffused gold and platinum in zinc selenide (ZnSe) epitaxial layers was studied using the Rutherford backscattering (RBS) channeling technique. Thin Au and Pt films were evaporated onto ZnSe samples. The Au/ZnSe samples were annealed at 525°C and the residual Au film was removed by etching. Channeling angular scan measurements showed that about 30% of Au atoms were close to substitutional site (displaced about 0.2 A). In the case of the Pt/ZnSe samples the annealing temperatures ranged from 600°C to 800°C. The Pt minimum yields along 〈1 0 0〉 direction were close to the random value, varying from 80% to 90%. The measured Pt angular scans along 〈1 0 0〉 and 〈1 …

Marginal and internal fit evaluation of conventional metal-ceramic versus zirconia CAD/CAM crowns

2019

Background The purpose of this in vivo study was to compare the marginal and internal gap widths of monolithic zirconia crowns fabricated by CAD/CAM technique and metal-ceramic crowns fabricated by conventional technique. Material and methods 10 participants needing a single restoration were selected. Zirconia crowns using CAD/CAM technology (Group A) (n=10) and metal-ceramic crowns (Group B) (n=10) using lost wax casting technique were fabricated for each selected tooth. The marginal and internal gaps of crowns were recorded using a replica technique with light body silicone material stabilized with a regular set putty. Each replica was sectioned buccolingually and mesiodistally and then e…

Single crystal-like thin films of blue bronze

2021

Abstract Pulsed laser deposition technique was employed to grow thin films of K 0.3 M o O 3 on A l 2 O 3 (1-102) and S r T i O 3 (510) substrates. Structural and imaging characterization revealed good quality films with well oriented grains of few microns in length. Both non-selective (transport) and order-selective (femtosecond pump-probe spectroscopy) probes revealed charge density wave properties that are very close to those of the single crystals. The films exhibit metal-semiconductor phase transition in resistivity, pump-probe data show phase transition at the same temperature as the single crystal and the threshold for the photo-induced phase transition is approximately the same as in…

The Grain Boundary Wetting Phenomena in the Ti-Containing High-Entropy Alloys: A Review

2021

In this review, the phenomenon of grain boundary (GB) wetting by melt is analyzed for multicomponent alloys without principal components (also called high-entropy alloys or HEAs) containing titanium. GB wetting can be complete or partial. In the former case, the liquid phase forms the continuous layers between solid grains and completely separates them. In the latter case of partial GB wetting, the melt forms the chain of droplets in GBs, with certain non-zero contact angles. The GB wetting phenomenon can be observed in HEAs produced by all solidification-based technologies. GB leads to the appearance of novel GB tie lines Twmin and Twmax in the multicomponent HEA phase diagrams. The so-cal…

Two-phase dielectric polar structures in 0.1NBT-0.6ST-0.3PT solid solutions

2018

Abstract In this work we address the peculiarities of the macroscopic responses in ternary 0.1Na0·5Bi0·5TiO3-0.6SrTiO3-0.3PbTiO3 (0.1NBT-0.6ST-0.3PT) solid solutions. These solid solutions exhibit a spontaneous first order relaxor to normal ferroelectric phase transition. The phase transition is accompanied by a broad dielectric relaxation which expands over 10 orders of magnitude in frequency just above the phase transition temperature. The temperature dependence of polarization shows that non-zero net polarization persists above the phase transition temperature. Below the phase transition temperature, it is not possible to describe the temperature dependence of polarization with a power l…
