Self-esteem, body image and B.M.I. in people attending fitness classes
2012
Over the last decade there have been several studies which support the role that physical exercise plays in the promotion of well-being and positive mental health. A crucial aspect in the well-being is the relationship between self-esteem and body-image. Anyway limited theoreticallybased longitudinal studies on body image and its relationship with selfesteem among adult men and women is documented (Grossbard, Lee, Neighbors, Larimer, 2009; Mellor, Fuller-Tyszkiewicz, McCabe, Ricciardelli, 2010). Different cultural standards for ideal body types have been identified: for females a thin figure represents attractiveness and for males, a more muscular build symbolizes power and success. Body ma…

INFLUENCE OF FELDENKRAIS METHOD ON SPINE HEALTH IN PROFESSIONAL ORCHESTRAL MUSICIANS. PILOT STUDY/INFLUENZA DEL METODO FELDENKRAIS SULLA SALUTE DEL R…
2012
Numerical study of the components positioning influence on the stability of a reverse shoulder prosthesis
2014
Aim of this paper is to setup a novel procedure able to analyze performances of a reverse shoulder prosthesis when different geometrical configurations are assumed. Nowadays, such a prosthesis is widely used but, because of its novelty, data in literature give poor information about performances and limits to its applicability. The activity has been divided into the following steps. At the beginning the shape of the prosthesis has been digitally acquired via a 3D scanner. Then, CAD models of all prosthetic components have been geometrically optimized in a way to obtain final entities suitable for numerical simulations. After that, CAD assemblies have been created between prosthetic componen…
Electron Angular Distribution in Laser-Assisted X-ray Photoeffect
1981
Calculations are reported of the differential cross section of the laser-assisted X-ray photoeffect from K shells showing that drastic changes occur in the shape of the ejected-electron angular distribution when laser photons are exchanged during the ionisation. This process appears well suited to the study of laser effects and multiphoton exchanges in laser-assisted atomic collisions.
Simple scheme for extracting work with a single bath
2019
We propose a simple protocol exploiting the thermalization of a storage bipartite system S to extract work from a resource system R. The protocol is based on a recent work definition involving only a single bath. A general description of the protocol is provided without specifying the characteristics of S. We quantify both the extracted work and the ideal efficiency of the process, also giving maximum bounds for them. Then, we apply the protocol to two cases: two interacting qubits and the Rabi model. In both cases, for very strong couplings, an extraction of work comparable with the bare energies of the subsystems of S is obtained and its peak is reached for finite values of the bath tempe…
Gli strumenti di monitoraggio e controllo e l’analisi quali-quantitativa dei dati sulla percezione del cyber-bullismo da parte degli insegnanti
2019
In the last ten years it happens less frequently to hear teachers talk about "pranks" when debating about the trend that shows a small number of teenagers and very young students, to put aggressive, violent discriminating, and, in general, victimizing behaviors are taking place. At least, we register this trend in the perception of the teachers we interviewed. It is certainly a sign, or even a consequence, of the fact that the entire educational institution, from the top management to the teachers, for over twenty years now, has become aware not only of the fact that that weren’t "pranks", but seriously aggressive behaviors, but also of the fact that, in addition to pro-sociality and non-ag…
Scienze sociali e progetto di territorio
2012
Which role can social sciences play in the creation of a territorial project? Can social scientists contribute to a wider picture of ecosustainable development? Starting from these key questions, the present chapter tries to summarize the different approaches that define the presence of social scientists in planning processes, focusing mainly on the fundamental idea of landscape. By employing Dematteis’s suggestion of a ‘Northwest Passage’ enabling to fully understand what landscapes are, social scientists become the key link between scholars with different expertise and formation. Furthermore, this chapter reflects on quantitative and qualitative methodologies, suggesting that both must be…
Development of a predictive model for the shelf-life of Atlantic mackerel (Scomber scombrus)
2022
Despite its commercial value, the shelf-life of the Atlantic mackerel (Scomber scombrus) during refrigerated storage was poorly investigated. In this regard, the Quality Index Method (QIM) was proposed as a suitable scoring system for freshness and quality sensorial estimation of fishery products. This study aims to develop a deterministic mathematical model based on dynamic temperatures conditions and a suc-cessive statistical analysis of the results obtained. This model will be exploited to predict the shelf-life of the Atlantic mackerel based on specific storage temperatures. A total of 60 fresh fishes were subdivided into two groups and respectively stored in ice for 12 days at a consta…
Vibration effect on ball score test in international vs. national level table tennis
2018
In table tennis, motor skills are crucial for discriminating player level. However, there is a dearth of studies exploring the impact of a vibrational stimulus on performance. Thirty-four male players (age 25 +/- 2 years ; body mass index, BMI 23.4 +/- 1.2 kg.m(-2)) participated in the study. Seventeen played at international level (IL), while the remaining 17 played at national level (NL). The participants underwent a ball-handling test, the ball score, before (PRE) and after (POST) a vibrational stimulus. Intra-class correlation (ICC) for the ball score result showed good reliability (ICC 0.87 for IL and 0.80 for NL). Repeated measures ANOVA showed differences between groups for ball scor…
