High-performance liquid chromatographic determination of diuretics in urine by micellar liquid chromatography.

1992

The use of micellar liquid chromatography for the determination of diuretics in urine by direct injection of the sample into the chromatographic system is discussed. The retention of the urine matrix at the beginning of the chromatograms was observed for different sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) mobile phases. The eluent strengths of a hybrid SDS-methanol micellar mobile phase for several diuretics were compared and related to the stationary phase/water partition coefficient with a purely micellar mobile phase. The urine band was appreciably narrower with a mobile phase of 0.05 M SDS-5% methanol (v/v) at 50 degrees C (pH 6.9). With this mobile phase the determination of bendroflumethiazide an…

Differentiation among dairy products by combination of fast field cycling NMR relaxometry data and chemometrics

2021

A set of commercial milk and Sicilian cheeses was analysed by a combination of fast field cycling (FFC) nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) relaxometry and chemometrics. The NMR dispersion (NMRD) curves were successfully analysed with a mathematical model applied on Parmigiano-Reggiano (PR) cheese. Regression parameters were led back to the molecular components of cheeses (water trapped in casein micelles, proteins and fats) and milk samples (water belonging to hydration shells around dispersed colloidal particles of different sizes and bulk water). The application of chemometric analysis on relaxometric data enabled differentiating milk from cheeses and revealing differences within the two sa…

Micelles in Mixtures of Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate and a Bolaform Surfactant

2006

Mixtures composed of water, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), and a bolaform surfactant with two aza-crown ethers as polar headgroups (termed Bola C-16) were investigated by modulating the mole ratios between the components. The two surfactants have ionic and nonionic, but ionizable, headgroups, respectively. The ionization is due to the complexation of alkali ions by the aza-crown ether unit(s). Structural, thermodynamic, and transport properties of the above mixtures were investigated. Results from surface tension, translational self-diffusion, and small angle neutron scattering ( SANS) are reported and discussed. Interactions between the two surfactants to form mixed micelles result in a com…

Inulin-Based Polymeric Micelles Functionalized with Ocular Permeation Enhancers: Improvement of Dexamethasone Permeation/Penetration through Bovine C…

2021

Ophthalmic drug delivery is still a challenge due to the protective barriers of the eye. A common strategy to promote drug absorption is the use of ocular permeation enhancers, while an innovative approach is the use of polymeric micelles. In the present work, the two mentioned approaches were coupled by conjugating ocular permeation enhancers (PEG2000, carnitine, creatine, taurine) to an inulin-based co-polymer (INU-EDA-RA) in order to obtain self-assembling biopolymers with permeation enhancer properties for the hydrophobic drug dexamethasone (DEX). Inulin derivatives were properly synthetized, were found to expose about 2% mol/mol of enhancer molecules in the side chain, and resulted abl…

HYALURONIC ACID BASED-MICELLES FOR OFF-LABEL USE OF IMATINIB IN RETINOPATHIES TREATMENT

2018

The aim of this work was to obtain polymeric micelles able to cross corneal barrier and to improve the permeation of imatinib free base. Micelles were prepared by using hyaluronic acid (HA) derivatives containing ethylenediamine (EDA), chains of hexadecyl (C16), polyethylene glycol (PEG) and/or L-carnitine (CRN). The resulting samples, named as HA-EDA-C16, HA-EDA-C16-PEG and HA-EDA-C16-CRN micelles, were designed to allow a non-invasive way of administration, i.e. topical ocular instillation. These nanocarriers showed an optimal particle size in aqueous media and mucoadhesive properties. Imatinib-loaded micelles were able to interact with corneal barrier and to promote imatinib transcorneal…

Physicochemical investigation of surfactant-coated gold nanoparticles synthesized in the confined space of dry reversed micelles

2006

Abstract Gold nanoparticle/surfactant composites have been synthesized by a novel reduction reaction in the confined space of dry sodium bis(2- ethylhexyl)sulfosuccinate (AOT) or lecithin reversed micelles dispersed in n-heptane and cyclohexane, respectively. The reaction was carried out by adding an opportune amount of anhydrous hydrazine/tetrahydrofuran solution to a suspension of HAuCl4-containing dry reversed micelles dispersed in organic solvent. UV–vis investigation ascertained the formation of stable metal gold nanoparticles and the analysis of FT-IR spectra highlighted the formation of an oriented surfactant monolayer at the nanoparticle surface. Simple evaporation under vacuum of t…
