Advanced Analysis of Propagation Losses in Rectangular Waveguide Structures Using Perturbation of Boundary Conditions

In this paper, propagation losses effects present in rectangular waveguide structures are rigorously considered. For this purpose, a new formulation based on the perturbation of the boundary conditions on the metallic walls of the waveguides combined with an Integral-Equation (IE) analysis technique is proposed. Following this advanced technique, the drawbacks of the classical power-loss method are overcome and a complex modal propagation constant is computed. To validate this theory, we have successfully compared our results with numerical data of lossy hollow waveguides. A robust and efficient method for obtaining the complex modes in inhomogeneously filled waveguides

In this paper, we present a computational simulation of the complex wave propagation in inhomogeneously filled waveguides with lossless and lossy dielectrics. We use a biorthonormal-basis method as a numerical technique. The behavior of complex modes in different waveguides whose characterization with other methods involves some difficulties is analyzed. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Modeling of low-noise microwave HEMTs for CAD-oriented applications

The simultaneous determination of noise, gain and scattering parameters through a computer-driven noise figure measuring system allowed the rapid and accurate characterization of several samples of low noise HEMTs of the same family. From the measured parameters an equivalent circuit model representing the behavior of the typical device is extracted by means of a decomposition approach. Comparison between the model performance and the set of measured parameters of all devices are reported for the FHR 02FH (by Fujitsu). The modeling procedure is mainly oriented to the CAD of (M)MIC low noise wideband amplifiers. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

The behaviors of N-tosylnitropyrroles acting as electrophilic dienophiles in polar Diels-Alder reactions joint to different dienes of increeased nucleophilicity are analyzed. The reactions were developed under microwave irradiation using toluene or protic ionic liquids (PILs) as solvents and in free solvent conditions. In all the cases explored we observed good yields in short reaction times. For these reactions, the free solvent condition and the use of protic ionic liquids as solvents offer similar results. [EN] The advantages of microwave (MW) energy processing have been verified in the sintering of a ceramic frit at a pre-industrial scale. The challenge of achieving high temperature using MW energy at such dimensions was overcome and a mix of natural raw materials was heated until its fluxing point. Changes in dielectric properties of the raw materials mix were also measured in situ with the increase in temperature, being in accordance to thermal processes of a conventional heating process. Microwave muffle furnace assisted decomposition of vegetable samples for flame atomic spectrometric determination of Ca, Mg, K, Fe, Mn and Zn

Calcium, magnesium, potassium, iron, manganese and zinc can be accurately determined in vegetable samples by flame atomic absorption and flame emission spectrophotometry after a previous dry ashing of the sample in a microwave muffle furnace. This treatment is carried out in 45 min using a new accessory developed by us to obtain high temperatures on a domestic microwave oven. Sample ashes, obtained in the muffle, are diluted with nitric acid and the obtained slurry is introduced directly into an air-C2H2 flame for the analysis of Fe, Mn, and Zn, or injected into a double-channel FIA manifold to determine Ca, Mg and K. Abstract Recently we identified ( R , S )-2-acetyl-1-(4′-chlorophenyl)-6,7-dimethoxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline ( 6 ) as a potent non-competitive AMPA receptor antagonist able to prevent epileptic seizures. We report here the optimized synthesis of compound 6 , its resolution by chiral preparative HPLC, and the absolute configuration of ( R )-enantiomer established by X-ray diffractometry. The biological tests of the single enantiomers revealed that higher anticonvulsant and antagonistic effects reside in ( R )-enantiomer as also suggested by molecular modeling studies.
Oxygenation of malignant tumors after localized microwave hyperthermia

The oxyhemoglobin saturation (HbO2) of single red blood cells within tumor microvessels (diameter: 3-12 micrometers) of DS-Carcinosarcoma was studied using a cryophotometric micromethod. In untreated control tumors (mean tissue temperature approx. 35 degrees C) the measured values scattered over the whole saturation range from zero to 100 sat. %, the mean being 51 sat. %. Upon heating at 40 degrees C for 30 min, the oxygenation of the tumor tissue significantly improved as compared with control conditions.
